In the end of season five, George was able to get a job working for the New York Yankees. In the beginning of this first episode of the sixth season, George is talking with one of the players and notices he's sweating. When he checks the label on the uniform, he realizes its polyester and decides to change it.

When Elaine and Jerry watch the baseball game, three Miss America contestants take their seats across the isle from them. When Elaine leaves her seat, Jerry starts talking to Miss Rhode Island and they decide to go on a date. Meanwhile, Elaine is excited because she has an interview with Doubleday Publishing.

When Jerry tells George that he may be going on a date with the future Miss America, he gets excited and he calls her for a date. The bad part about the date is that they have to get a chaperone. When Karen's chaperone can't come, Jerry ends up deciding to use Kramer as a chaperone because of his knowledge of the past Miss America pageants.

When Elaine goes for her interview, the executive goes on about Jackie Onassis and how Elaine would have tough shoes to fill. When they start talking about her grace, Elaine says that she likes to think she has a little grace. The executive immediately told her that either she has a lot of grace or none at all, and you can't acquire it. Elaine immediately knew she had no chance at the job.

After her failed interview at Doubleday, Elaine meets Mr. Pitt and they go to have lunch at Monk's. Mr. Pitt finds that Elaine resembles Jackie Onassis and hires her as his personal assistant. Elaine's job as Mr. Pitt's assistant spans the rest of the season.

Although he was thinking of five, she guessed pretty close. During dinner, Jerry wants to have a good date with Karen, but Kramer keeps interfering by asking all about the pageant. During dinner Kramer talks about Karen's waist being too big and about the questions she may be asked.

After dinner, Kramer and Jerry are in a limo driving Miss Rhode Island back to her hotel, and Kramer continues to ask about the pageant. When she says she's wearing a red dress, Kramer tells her to wear a green one because it would match her eyes. Karen decides to make Kramer her personal consultant for the pageant.

Coincidentally, Jerry has a job in Atlantic City on the same weekend that the pageant is supposed to take place. before leaving, he invites George to come along and they decide to share a room. When they call Elaine, she can't go.

On Elaine's first day on the job, Jerry decided to call Mr. Pitt's office to ask if she could go with them to Atlantic City. Unfortunately, she had to work for Mr. Pitt by buying him a pair of socks that he would like. The two of them argue that some pairs have no elastics while others do.

In the middle of the night, Jerry and George were awakened by loud birds and Jerry threw water at them to scare them off. The next morning, Kramer found that the Karen's birds (for her magic act) were dead and went to Jerry's apartment where he found that it was Jerry's fault.

In the end, Kramer tells Miss Rhode Island to sing for her talent and she does. Unfortunately, she has never sung before and she does a horrible job. When George and Jerry watch the pageant on TV, they decide it's too unbearable to watch Karen sing and switch to the Yankees game where the players uniforms have shrunk because of George's cotton idea.
