Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A prominent and well-liked feature at the beginning of each episode is the title sequence - a series of southern-themed, sometimes slightly disturbing images, accompanied by the song "Bad Things" by Jace Everett. Which of these can't be seen during the opening credits?

Answer: a vampire drinking blood

Even though the show centers around the interaction between humans and vampires, the trailer doesn't contain any images directly depicting them. The only allusion is the sign "God hates fangs.", which is connected to a recurring theme throughout the show - a kind of "racism" against vampires.
2. The namesake of the show, the drink "Tru Blood", has allowed vampires to "come out of the coffin" (i.e. acknowledge their existence) and attempt to live as part of society. Which of the following isn't true of the beverage?

Answer: It tastes the same as human blood.

As stated in the pilot episode, "Tru Blood" is a Japanese creation that gives vampires a food source that provides everything required for their diet. Thus, with the need to feed off humans eliminated, the so called "Great revelation" was made possible. "Tru Blood" is served at body temperature and produced with different flavors (O negative, B positive etc.) to simulate human blood as much as possible. Still, its taste is described as "vile" and "metallic", causing most vampires to either reject it completely or, in the case of the more progressive ones, to complement their diet with blood from willing humans ("donors"), without killing them.
3. "True Blood" centers around the life of Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress from Bon Temps, Louisiana. Due to a series of killings (by both humans and supernatural creatures), the staff at the bar where she works has undergone several changes throughout the series. Which of the following has never been one of Sookie's colleagues?

Answer: Andy Bellefleur

Though Andy's cousin, Terry Bellefleur, is employed as a cook at "Merlotte's Bar", Andy himself is a policeman. The small town he protects, Bon Temps, is a fictional place, created by author Charlaine Harris, on whose "Southern Vampire Mysteries" series the show is based.
Dawn Green and Daphne Landry have both worked as waitresses at the bar, but are killed in the first and second season, respectively. Lafayette, the bar's other cook, is killed after the first book, but the show's creators decided to keep his well-liked character alive in the TV series.
4. Being a show about vampires, many of the series' characters are undead. Which of these, however, is very much alive when we first meet them?

Answer: Jessica Hamby

Bill draws the attention of Sookie in the pilot episode by being the first ever vampire customer. Later we meet Bill's boss, the vampire "sheriff" Eric, as well as his vampire progeny, Pam. Jessica is "turned" by Bill as penance for him killing another vampire. So the first time we (and he) meet her, she's still a very frightened human girl.
Jessica is a character who isn't in the books the series is based on. Still, she is very well received and even got her own tie-in website/blog.
5. Aside from vampires, the show features several other kinds of supernatural creatures. Which of the following isn't one of these?

Answer: dwarf

In the magic-filled world of "True Blood", Sookie often finds one of her acquaintances to be some sort of "supe", i.e. supernatural creature. Her boss, Sam, can turn into any animal at will - a true shapeshifter, while Alcide Herveaux, being a werewolf, can only turn into a wolf. Maryann, a maenad, turns into a horned monster and wreaks havoc. Dwarfs haven't made an appearance on the show, up to the fourth season.
6. Vampires in the "True Blood" universe have a complex political system, separate from that of humans. Which of the following has not been in a position of power?

Answer: Lorena Krasiki

Up until season three, Sophie-Anne was the vampire Queen of Louisiana. Eric's maker Godric was sheriff of Area 9 in Texas until he committed suicide, believing he had spent more than enough time on Earth (over 2000 years). Nan Flanagan is an important figure in the AVL (American Vampire League) and as such gets to boss around many of her fellow creatures in order to improve the public image of vampires. Bill's makes, Lorena, had only power over her only progeny - until Sookie kills her, effectively freeing Bill from her influence.
7. Though dubious characters seem to thrive in and around Bon Temps, real baddies rarely last doing "bad things" longer than a season. Who of the following actually did?

Answer: Sophie-Anne Leclerq

Rene, the serial killer who terrorized the town in Season 1 ended up decapitated by a shovel when trying to kill Sookie. Longshadow, the vampire bartender at Fangtasia who stole money from his boss, Eric, got staked by said boss when he tried to kill Sookie to silence her. (Warning to all bad guys out there: trying to kill Sookie = certain death). Maenad Maryann (who, by the way, also tried to kill Sookie via her poisonous claws) was killed by Sam. By doing so, he saved not only himself, but also all other residents of Bon Temps. Queen Sophie-Anne, on the other hand, lasted from her introduction in Season 2 right up to the beginning of Season 4 (perhaps because she didn't make any direct attempt at Sookie's life). Still, her wicked ways got her on both Bill's and the AVL's bad side and ultimately led to her final death, thus granting Bill status as the new vampire King.
8. The show's central romantic theme is Sookie's love life and the question of which of her many suitors she'll choose in the end. A serious contender is the vampire viking Eric. After tricking Sookie into drinking his blood, she starts to have erotically-themed dreams about him. Which of these isn't one?

Answer: Eric coming to visit her in Jackson.

Plus, all these dreams feature them kissing - no odd one out there! Eric is the one (day-)dreaming (no pun intended) of visiting Sookie while she's away, searching for Bill in Mississippi. Definitely some wishful thinking on his part!
9. Sookie's friends are trying to find Mr./Ms. right as well - some more successfully than others. Of these, Tara seems to have the worst luck possible. Which of these people has she not hooked up with at some point?

Answer: Jason Stackhouse

Compared to her other relationships - one person (Eggs) getting killed and the other (Franklin) trying to turn her into a vampire, then getting killed, Tara's brief fling with Sam seems really uneventful. Still, he is only a temporary solution for her loneliness.

Her long-time crush, Sookie's brother Jason, on the other hand, never seems to pay her much attention - quite odd, considering his reputation with women. It's safe to say, nowadays Tara would try to stay as far away as possible from Jason - him killing one former lover (Franklin) to save her life doesn't really make up for killing the other (Eggs).
10. Everything (including this quiz) ends with death. Vampires have, in a way, already died once. Still, they too, can meet their final death - though it's no easy feat. Which of the following does NOT kill a vampire?

Answer: silver

Sunlight literally burns a vampire. The time required for complete combustion depends on the age of the vampire and whether they've consumed fairy blood or not. A stake through the heart causes the vampire to disintegrate into a bloody, gory mess. A wooden bullet serves as a mini-stake, with the added bonus of a person being able to shoot it from a distance. Silver, on the other hand, can wound a vampire very seriously, but doesn't kill them. Thus, it is often used to bind or cause pain to, but not kill a vampire.
