Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the Gallifryean explorer who discovered the Timeless Child?

Answer: Tecteun

Her name was Tecteun. She discovered the Timeless Child near a portal that led to other galaxies. The child turned out to be the very first person who regenerated on Gallifrey, and provided the genetic material that allows Time Lords to regenerate.

Solpado was the Gallifreyean leader who came up with the secret Division. A tauntaun is a large furry beast native to the planet Hoth as seen in "The Empire Strikes Back" (1980).

Tecteun was played by Seylan Baxter. The Scottish musician began working in television in 2015, playing one of the witches in "MacBeth."
2. When the scientist regenerated following the experiment, what did she regenerate into?

Answer: black young man

She generated into a young black man, who is seen wearing the regalia of a Time Lord official later on. Tecteun used the DNA from the Timeless Child to allow Time Lords to regenerate. This marks the first time we have seen a female to male regeneration on screen.
3. What is the name of the original race that inhabited Gallifrey?

Answer: Shobogans

Tecteun was part of the Shobogans. Her discoveries led to the technological advances that turned the residents of Gallifrey into the Time Lords.

Sheboygan is a city in Wisconsin. The Shansheeth are a vulture-like alien race seen in "The Sarah Jane Adventures" episode "Death of the Doctor" (2010). The Shrivenzale is a nasty beast that eats people in the Fourth Doctor adventure "The Ribos Operation" (1978).
4. How does the Master kill Ashad, the Lone Cyberman?

Answer: Minaturizes him with his shrink ray

The Master is fond of killing people by shrinking them. He shrinks Ashad, who contains a "death particle" capable of killing all organic life on a planet. Ryan and Ethan were able to kill several cybermen with a laser weapon, and Ryan killed around a dozen using a grenade.

Ashad was played by Patrick O'Kane. This is his third appearance after "The Haunting of Villa Diodata" and "Ascension of the Cybermen" (both 2020).
5. What was the name of the secret unit of Time Lords designed to interfere in history that was revealed in "The Timeless Children" (2020)?

Answer: The Division

The Division was a secret group of Time Lord agents who were tasked specifically to interfere in historical events. It is heavily implied that the Doctor, in her past incarnations (including Ruth), was a member of this organization. However, much of the history of the organization was redacted - at least that is what the Master claimed.

The Celestial Intervention Agency is mainly part of the prose and audio "Doctor Who" universe. It was first mentioned during the Fourth Doctor adventure "The Deadly Assassin" (1976). The CIA eventually evolved into Celestis. The Chancellary Guard are the Secret Service of Gallifrey, responsible for the security of the President.
6. Who detonates the "death particle" on Gallifrey?

Answer: Ko Sharmus

Ko Sharmus returns to both confront the Master and to save the Doctor. It is implied that Sharmus was one of the Time Lord agents sent to hide the Cyberium, who failed in his mission when it ended up in 19th century Switzerland. Sharmus even tells the Doctor to "Run." Sharmus sets off the bomb, which obliterates all organic matter on Gallifrey.

The Doctor hesitated at detonating the death particle, so Sharmus stepped in. He is shot by the CyberTimeLord beings, but still managed to set off the bomb.

Ko Sharmus was played by Irish actor Ian McElhinney. He has frequently played a police officer or military man during his 40 year career. Some of his more notable roles include General Dodonna in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" (2016), Val-El in the series "Krypton" (2018), and Ser Barristan Selmy in "Game of Thrones" (2011-15).
7. Finish this advice from Ko Sharmus: "Be brave, be swift and be _____________."

Answer: lucky

Sharmus instructed them to be lucky. Which they were, at least for a while. They managed to get off several good shots at the cybermen and blew up about a dozen more with a grenade. Ethan's luck eventually ran out. Ethan was played by Matt Carver.
8. What did the chameleon circuit on the Master's TARDIS disguise it as when the Doctor landed on apocalypse Earth?

Answer: a tree

The Master's TARDIS changed into a scraggly tree, fitting in quite well with the barren landscape. The Doctor even commented on the working chameleon circuit before strolling back to her own TARDIS.

The grandfather clock was a disguise in "The Deadly Assassin" (1976). The assassination of the President was mentioned by the Master in "Timeless Children." The Master's TARDIS appeared to be a ranch style home in "Spyfall: Part Two" (2020). The Master's TARDIS actually took the form of a police box in "Logopolis" (1981), Tom Baker's last episode as the Doctor.
9. Who suddenly appeared and really ruined the Doctor's day at the end of "The Timeless Children"?

Answer: The Judoon

The Judoon appeared on board the TARDIS, declared the Doctor guilty of an unspecified crime, and teleported her to a spaceship prison. How the Judoon managed to get aboard the TARDIS is unclear. Ruth (Doctor Ruth?) was pretty vicious towards the Judoon commander during "Fugitive of the Judoon" (2020), so that could be coming back to haunt the Doctor.

The Daleks are the Doctor's oldest and most notorious enemies. The Sontarans are a clone race who are enamored of endless warfare. Jack Robertson (Chris Noth) was the businessman with shady practices in "Arachnids in the UK" (2018).
10. Who wrote the series 12 finale "The Timeless Children"?

Answer: Chris Chibnall

Chris Chibnall, who has been the "Doctor Who" show runner since 2018, wrote "Ascencion of the Cyberman" and "The Timeless Children" to wrap up series 12. Chibnall has been criticized for his running of the show over last two years, but he has also written some of the better episodes, including "Spyfall" (2020). This is Chibnall's seventeenth script for "Doctor Who". His first was the Tenth Doctor adventure "42" (2007).

Jamie Magnus Stone returned after directing "Spyfall: Part One" and "Praxeus" earlier this season. He directed the two-part series close "Ascension" and "The Timeless Children." Stone began directing in 2008, and has worked mostly in television. He has experience with time traveling from the comedy series "Tripped" (2015) and with period dramas from the World War II series "X Company" (2015-16).

Sacha Dhawan gave a brilliant over the top performance as "The Master" once again. He first appeared in "Spyfall" (2020). Dhawan, a native of Manchester, got his film start in "The History Boys" (2006) which featured several other "Doctor Who" alumni. He began acting in television all the way back in 1997 as a teenager.

Paul Kasey had a brief (but important) appearance as the Judoon Captain at the end of "The Timeless Children." Kasey has played a range of monsters on "Doctor Who" since playing an Auton in the debut episode "Rose" (2005). Since then he has been a Judoon, a Cyberman, an Ood, and a Whisperman, as well as Nephew in "The Doctor's Wife" (2011).
