Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What city in England is the setting for "Fugitive of the Judoon?"

Answer: Gloucester

"Fugitive of the Judoon" was set in Gloucester, which is in southwest England. The town was founded by the Roman in 97 AD and granted a charter by Henry II in 1155. The city is notable for its long history and its position on the River Severn.

Several series 11 adventures were set in Sheffield, the hometown of the Doctor's companions. While many episodes of both New and Classic "Doctor Who" have taken place in London, it was not seen is this episode. Leeds did make an appearance in 'Turn Left" (2008).
2. What is Ruth's job?

Answer: Tour guide

Ruth is a tour guide, providing tours of the city of Gloucester at 10:00, noon and 2 p.m. She was quite knowledgeable about the cathedral.

Ruth was played by Jo Martin. The veteran actress began working in British television in 1990. Her credits include "The Crouches" (2003-05) and the medical drama "Holby City" (2018-2020).
3. What fan favorite reappears in "Fugitive of the Judoon"?

Answer: Captain Jack Harkness

Captain Jack (John Barrowman) returns after a ten year absence. We last saw the roguish time traveler in David Tennant's last episode "The End of Time: Part 2" (2010).

Jack scooped up Graham and mistakes him for the Doctor. He then scooped up Ryan and Yaz, mistaking Yaz for the Doctor. Unable to contact the actual Doctor, Jack left the companions with a cryptic warning.

Jack first appeared during the Ninth Doctor's run in "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances" (2005). Rendered immortal by Rose Tyler, Jack was spun off into his own series "Torchwood" but also made occasional appearances on "Doctor Who" (2006-2010).
4. According to the psychic paper, what did the Judoon believe the Doctor to be?

Answer: An Imperial Regulator

The Judoon assumed the Doctor was an Imperial Regulator, which bought her some time to talk to Lee and Ruth. Unfortunately, not enough time to save Lee.

The Doctor actually has been the President of Gallifrey, at least in the past. It probably would have come in handy in this current crisis, as whoever the client of the Judoon is, they are Gallifreyean.
5. Where did Ruth attack the Judoon commander?

Answer: The Cathedral

Gloucester Cathedral has been the site of a church since 678. The current structure was begun in 1089 and completed 400 years later. The church is the burial site of King Edward II. Ruth and the Doctor travel to the cathedral seeking sanctuary, but are confronted by the Judoon.

Ruth goes Rambo on the rhino cops, zapping them back to their spaceship. The Doctor worries about the ramifications of angering the Judoon.

The Shire House is the site where the Gloucester County Council meets. Whitefield is a notable Presbyterian church dating to 1871. St Nicholas dates back to the 13th century and is part of the National Heritage List.
6. Complete the warning: Beware the lone ____________________.

Answer: cyberman

Jack Harkness gives Graham, Ryan and Yaz a mysterious warning that the Earth is threatened (isn't it always?) and the Doctor should not give the lone cyberman what it wants. Hopefully, this will pay off in some future episode.

The Cyberman are some of the oldest villains in "Doctor Who" lore. They first appeared in "The Tenth Planet" (1966), William Hartnell's last episode. Most Doctors have confronted them, with the Twelfth Doctor facing them in "the Doctor Falls" (2017).
7. What was the name of the commander who was chasing the fugitive?

Answer: Commander Gat

Commander Gat was a Gallifreyean, at least according to the Doctor's sonic and the mind meld she did. Gat apparently had some business relationship with Ruth's version of the Doctor, but before we could learn more, Gat was blasted into atoms.

Gat was played by Ritu Aryu. He credits include being Dr Megan Sharma on "Doctors" (2017), Flash on "Humans" (2016-18) and Barsha on "The Good Karma Hospital" (2018-19).

Commander Maxil was in "Arc of Infinity" (1983) and was played by Colin Baker before he became the Sixth Doctor. Commander Hilred, played by Derek Seaton, appeared in "The Deadly Assassin" (1976). Commander Kenossium was the leader of the Gallifryean military during the Great Time War ("The Day of the Doctor" (2013)).
8. What was Ruth's true identity?

Answer: The Doctor

In one of the biggest OMG moments in recent years, the 13th Doctor uncovered the TARDIS, buried in a bog. Ruth explains that she is the Doctor. However, Thirteen does not remember being Ruth and Ruth does not remember having been Thirteen. Talk about your timey wimey.

A genetic scan does reveal that 13 and Ruth are the same person, and Ruth is piloting the TARDIS. (Extremely cool interior on Ruth's TARDIS, BTW.) Somehow, the Ruth version of the Doctor had been working for Gat. Precisely what their relationship was remained unresolved as Gat blew herself up with a booby trapped laser pistol.
9. Which is the correct order that characters were killed in "Fugitive of the Judoon?"

Answer: Marcia, Allen, Lee, Gat

1) Marcia was killed by the Judoon when she ran away after refusing to be scanned. 2) Allen the baker was executed for pushing one of the Judoon. 3) Lee was killed by Commander Gat. 4) Gat was killed when a booby trapped laser rifle incinerated her.
10. Who wrote the episode "Fugitive of the Judoon" along with Chris Chibnall?

Answer: Vinay Patel

Vinay Patel wrote the episode, which contains some major OMG moments (Jack is back, a brand new [old? alternate universe? It gets timey wimey] version of the Doctor). Patel wrote "Demons of the Punjab" for series 11. Patel also wrote "Murdered by My Father," a 2016 TV movie about honor killing.

Nida Manzoor directed "Fugitive of the Judoon" along with "Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror" this series. Manzoor was a writer on the series "Dixi" (2016) and has directed several episodes of the series "Enterprice" (2017-18).

Paul Kasey has been with "Doctor Who" since the reboot in 2005, playing an Auton in "Rose". Since then, he has appeared as a wide range of monsters, including robot Santas, Ood, Cybermen, Whispermen and Judoon on multiple occasions. He was also Nephew in "The Doctor's Wife" (2011). Casey was the Judoon Captain in "Fugitive."

Neil Stuke played Lee Clayton. He began acting in British television in 1993 and has acted in numerous films and shows since.
