Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How are Jake Willis and Adam Scott related?

Answer: married

Jake and Adam are married. They are going through some marital strife because Jake did not show up to see Adam off when he launched into space. To his credit, Jake did come running when Adam said he was in Hong Kong and needed help.

Jake and Graham had a nice heart-to-heart talk in which Graham told Jake he was being too hard on himself. They compared notes on having a spouse you felt inferior to.
2. What was the name of Gabriela and Jamila's travel blog?

Answer: Two Girls Roaming

Their show was "Two Girls Roaming" as Gabriela informed Ryan and Yaz. It was a weblog featuring Gabriela and Jamila's travels around the world. When we first meet them, Gabriela and Jamila are near a river in Peru which has been turned into a massive garbage dump.

Mysterious birds circle the river and ultimately attack Jamila. Ryan shows up and warns Gabriela not to touch the dead birds. They later discover Jamila in a morgue, where she disintegrates into dust.

The doomed Jamila was played by Gabriela Toloi. This was her second job in television, after an appearance on the Brazilian psychological drama "Psi" in 2017. Gabriela Camera was played by Portuguese actress Joana Borja. She began working in Portuguese television in 2004.
3. The Doctor and company were spanning the globe during "Praxeus". What is the NOT one of the locations they were in during the episode?

Answer: Switzerland

Ryan showed up in Peru to rescue Gabriela (and pick up dead birds). Graham and Yaz showed up to help Jake in Hong Kong. The Doctor attempted to rescue a submariner in Madagascar, and was later in Hong Kong. Everyone eventually wound up in Madagascar. They were nowhere near Switzerland during the episode.
4. What was the Praxeus virus attracted to?

Answer: plastic

The Praxeus virus found plastic to be an ideal growth medium. It originally spread in sea birds, which consumed the plastic found in the oceans. The Doctor noted that the Earth was covered in plastic residue, and that most humans have microplastics in their systems.

The aliens who crash landed on Earth were seeking a laboratory in trying to find an antidote to the Praxeus virus. The fact that Earth was swimming in plastic (literally) made it attractive.
5. Who did the Doctor test the Praxeus antidote on?

Answer: Adam Scott

Adam was the one infected with the virus, so he seemed like the logical candidate. Fortunately, the anti-virus worked. Adam was played by British actor Matthew McNulty. He began working in British TV in 2004, and has appeared in numerous series, including the supernatural anthology series "The Terror" in 2018.

Suki did try the anti-virus the Doctor created, but it did not work for her species.
6. Where was the plastic gyre the alien spaceship crashed into located?

Answer: Indian Ocean

The spaceship crashed in the Indian Ocean, spreading the contagion to a US Navy Submarine, and creating a giant alien construct under the sea. Yaz and Gabriela teleported to the alien construct from Hong Kong.

The Indian Ocean is the world's third largest ocean, covering roughly 70 million square kilometers between eastern Africa and western Australia. As the episode indicated, the Indian Ocean does contain a massive plastic garbage patch, although not nearly as large as the one in the Pacific.
7. Who saved the Earth by piloting the alien spaceship?

Answer: Jake

It was Jake because he felt that he had not accomplished much in life and thought he was unworthy to be married to the far more successful Adam. Jake piloted the spaceship, released the anti-virus, and saved the Earth. Fortunately, the Doctor is very, very good at rescuing people who are in spaceships that are about blow up.

Jake was played by Warren Brown. A former World Thai Boxing champion, Brown began acting in 2004. He is probably best known for his role as Detective Justin Ripley on the police drama "Luther" (2010-2015). Brown has frequently played military men or police officers during his career.
8. The Doctor said that what sort of talking animal had distracted her from the immediate crisis in "Praxeus"?

Answer: cat

The Doctor mentioned a talking cat "in Canada" twice during "Praxeus." She did encounter a talking frog (well, a sentient universe posing as a frog) during "It Takes You Away" (2018).
9. What is the order in which people died of the alien virus in "Praxeus"?

Answer: Zach - Jumila - Suki

1) US seaman Zach Olson died on the beach in Madagsacar.
2) Jamila died at the morgue in Peru
3) Suki died aboard her spaceship under the Indian Ocean.
The virus was extremely nasty: it would cover its victims with sores, rapidly dessicate their flesh and then disintegrate them into powder.

Zach was played by Tristan de Beer. He was in the mystery series "The Girl From St Agnes" as Jason Clayton in 2019. Suki Cheng, the alien scientist, was played by Molly Harris. She is fairly new to acting, but did appear in the 2019 film "Monsoon."
10. Who directed the series 12 episode "Praxeus"?

Answer: Jamie Magnus Stone

This is Jamie Magnus Stone's second outing during series 12. He also directed the season opener "Spyfall Part One." Stone directed his first TV episodes in 2008, but got serious in 2014. Stone and Warren Brown (Jake) worked together on the World War II Drama "X Company" (2015-16).
Stone actually got his start in time-travel stories on the science fiction comedy "Tripped" back in 2015.

Pete McTighe wrote "Praxeus" along with Chris Chibnall. This is his second episode of "Doctor Who" after "Kerblam!" in 2018. McTighe is notable for his prison based drama work, including "Wentworth" (2019) and "The Yard" (2018-19).

Thapelo Maropefela played the doomed assistant in Madagascar, Aramu. "Doctor Who" marked his first time on television.

Tosin Cole began playing Ryan Sinclair in "The Woman Who Fell to Earth" (2018), starring as one of the three companions of the 13th Doctor. He had a small role in "Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens" (2015) and has been acting since 2010. Cole helped get his start in television on the British soap opera "Hollyoaks" back in 2011.
