There I was just minding my own business, when out of nowhere a TARDIS appeared before my eyes and out popped Doctor Who. "Come and join me on a journey", he said. "A journey to discover some of the aliens I have encountered over the years".

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Doctor Who would not be the same without giant salt and pepper pot shaped robots screeching "Exterminate! Exterminate!". What was the name of the alien who was credited with creating the Daleks?

Answer: Davros

The Daleks first came to our television screens in 1963. Davros was a scientist from the planet Skaro, part of the Kaled race of people who were in a raging war with another species called the Thals. Kaleds were about to become extinct until Davros created the Dalek, part humanoid and part robot, who had a bitter hate towards everything and everyone. For anyone with an eagle eye, Kaled is an anagram of Dalek.
2. The Ood are a race of aliens from the 39th century with octopus like tentacles on their lower face. What is the globular object they are always seen to carry?

Answer: Telepathy ball

The Ood do not have any vocal cords and use telepathy to communicate. Their eyes turn red when they communicate with others of the same race, giving them a sinister look. They did have two brains, one in their head, and the other externally linked to their lower head via a cord. The latter was replaced with a telepathy ball so they could communicate with other species including human.
3. The Sontaran can be identified by their short stout bodies, large heads and three digits on each hand. What colour is their blood?

Answer: Green

Sontaran are aliens from a planet called Sontar. They clone with each other and therefore one Sontaran is almost identical to another. A vent in the back of their neck is where they take in energy, but the same region is their most vulnerable as a sudden blow there could kill them. They are a race of warriors with a fondness for fighting and war. Each individual is given a rank, and these can include Space Marshall, Battle Marshall and Trooper.
4. The Adipose are cute looking blobby aliens that are made from what?

Answer: Body fat

Adipose have eyes, a mouth, two stumpy hands, two stumpy legs, and are made entirely from human body fat. The word adipose in real terms means "body fat". We saw them in the 2008 series, "Partners in Crime", where an alien called Miss Foster mass produced a diet pill. The pill in fact caused blobs of alien fat, or the Adipose, to be released from the body. An alien spaceship came to collect the young at the end of the programme, and Miss Foster got her just deserts!
5. Cybermen were originally from which planet?

Answer: Mondas

Mondas was the twin planet of earth. The Mondasians were a human race who began experimenting with cybernetics, and over time, started adding robotic parts to their bodies. They kept their human brain, but lost all human emotion when they were converted to Cybermen to block out any pain and trauma. They are armed with weapons which retract back into their arms, useful for fighting their enemies. One of their most hated enemies is the Dalek.
6. Slitheen infiltrate communities by disguising themselves inside the skin of humans. What bad habit do they have?

Answer: Flatulence

Slitheen wear special collars which allow them to fold their enormous frames inside the skin of their victim. When inside the victim, the build-up of gas causes flatulence, much to the disgust of anyone standing near. They unzip the skin when they have no further need for disguise. Their bodies are large, at least seven feet tall, with green/yellow/grey skin and strong claws. Originally from the planet Raxacoricofallapatorius, their young hatched from eggs and their strong sense of smell made them ideal hunters.
7. This is an image of Madame Vastra who lives in Victorian London and is known for helping Doctor Who. What species of alien is she?

Answer: Silurian

The Silurian are humanoid reptiles with the characteristics of a human, but with the green/brown scales of a lizard. Their first appearance on television came in 1970 but their image has changed slightly during the years. Madame Vastra lives in the same building as a Sontaran nurse called Strax, and together they have aided Doctor Who in his many adventures. She also helped Scotland Yard solve the case of Jack the Ripper.
8. In which Doctor Who episode did we see his companions trapped inside a dolls house with the Peg Dolls?

Answer: Night Terrors

"Night Terrors" was an episode which first aired in 2011. The Doctor, and his companions Amy and Rory, visited the house where a young boy lived, but the boy was terrified of something inside his closed bedroom cupboard. Amy and Arthur became trapped inside the doll's house within the cupboard, trying to evade the Peg Dolls. In the meantime, the doctor discovered that the boy is actually an alien who wants to be adopted by his human parents, but he is scared they will send him away.
9. Novice Hame lived on New Earth and was part of which order of nuns?

Answer: Sisters of Plenitude

Novice Hame was from the Catkind race of felines, originally from the planet New Savannah, and eventually nursing the sick in New New York on New Earth. She and other Sister of Plenitude were arrested for spreading diseases. Part of her punishment was to look after Face of Boe, an alien head who could only communicate by telepathy. She helped The Doctor defeat the Cybermen and Judoon when they attacked the planet.
10. Can you complete the missing words from this Doctor Who quote? "Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. _____ _____."

Answer: Good luck!

The most popular "Doctor Who" aliens have always been the Daleks and Cyberman; that is until the Weeping Angels came to our screens in 2007. Doctor Who said this quote when he was trapped in the past. He used the medium of placing a warning on several DVDs which would be listened to in the future. The warning was not to blink in front of the angels.

The angels always appeared as though they were weeping, with hands over their faces if they thought they were being looked upon by another angel. They had the ability to turn to stone if a human looked at them, but moved with speed if a human closed their eyes. These murderous statues could kill with their sharp fangs and claws, leaving the viewer hiding in suspense behind their sofa, waiting for their next move.
