Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Whose house was at 4222 Clinton Way, Los Angeles, CA?

Answer: The Brady Bunch

All of the families lived in California, but it was Mike and Carol Brady who owned the big house on Clinton Way; it had enough room for 'yours, mine and' Alice! The upscale Bluths lived in Newport Beach; the Partridges, when not on their bus, lived in San Pueblo; the Tanners (not the ones from "Full House") also lived in Los Angeles, but at Hemdale Street - I wonder if they knew the Bradys? Anyway, the Brady Bunch house still exists and, if you're in the area and should wish to visit, it is located at 11222 Dilling Street, North Hollywood, California.
2. Which of the following series are all set in New York City?

Answer: Friends, Elementary, Seinfeld

Too easy...maybe not, since all the choices had at least one show from New York City. The correct choice, however, is: "Friends" (425 Grove St., NYC), "Elementary" where Sherlock Holmes is currently residing in New York City and, while I couldn't get his exact street address, I'm sure they will still forward his mail from 221B Baker Street, and "Seinfeld" who lived at 129 West 81st Street, Apt 5A, NYC. If you're curious, "Law and Order', "Night Court" "NYPD Blue" and "Cagney and Lacey" were all set in Manhattan; "The Simpsons" is in Springfield (Oregon, but don't tell), "Hill St. Blues" is set in an anonymous inner city in the east, and "Family Guy" is in Rhode Island.
3. What address would you go to if you wanted to visit "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood"?

Answer: 4802 Fifth Avenue

The address for "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood" was 4802 Fifth Avenue, although, sadly, you can no longer reach him there. Although I don't believe the city was ever stated, presumably it was set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania since that is where the show was produced. If the incorrect choices seem familiar: Bonnie Meadow Rd., New Rochelle, NY was home to the Petries ("Dick Van Dyke Show"), The Stephens ("Bewitched") lived on Morning Glory Circle, Westport, Connecticut, and Mary Richards ("The Mary Tyler Moore Show") had an apartment on North Weatherly in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
4. Which show used the address 485 Mapleton Drive, Mayfield?

Answer: Leave It to Beaver

Beaver, Wally, Ward and June all lived a nice, quiet life in the fictional community of Mayfield (except perhaps for the mischievous Eddie Haskell). As any trivia-ite knows, Beaver's real name was Theodore, but Beaver Cleaver was so much better - even in the 1950s.

The parents and the kids weren't perfect but somehow managed to survive without seat belts, crash helmets and metal detectors. The troubles 'the Beav' got into were of such significance that I am unable to give you even one example...it was simpler time! For the other choices, "Father Knows Best" was in Springfield (the midwest), "All in the Family" in Queens, NY and "Home Improvement" was in Detroit, Michigan.
5. Which of the following sitcoms was NOT located in Brooklyn, New York?

Answer: Married...with Children

If you're old enough to remember (or old enough to forget) "Patty's only seen the sights a girl can see from Brooklyn Heights", and the Huxtables also resided in Brooklyn Heights, but that was many years later. On "The Honeymooners", Ralph and Alice lived in a sparsely decorated apartment at 328 1/2 Chauncey Street, also in Brooklyn (but not 'the heights'). On "Married...with Children", the Bundys address was 9764 Jeopardy Lane, Chicago, Illinois (no, not with Alex Trebek!).

They lived in suburban Chicago and were 'the anti-Cosbys'; Al was a grouchy shoe salesmen (the agony of the feet), Peg was a non-housewife and Kelly and Bud - the less said, the better!
6. Speaking of neighbors, what was the name of the town that housed both Donna Stone and Dennis Mitchell?

Answer: Hilldale

On "The Donna Reed Show", Donna Stone, her pediatrician husband, Dr. Alex Stone and their two teenage children (Mary and Jeff) resided in the quaint town of Hilldale; their address was unlisted, but I did find an old phone number, i.e., 4-3926 Hillsdale, (rather than Hilldale, maybe because it was a 'party line'). Meanwhile, Dennis ('the menace') Mitchell and his parents lived at 627 Elm Street, where he drove Mr. Wilson crazy...and, in case you were wondering, Donna and Dennis do meet up in an episode. Lawndale is where "Daria" lives; Cocoa Beach is the home of Tony Nelson on "I Dream of Jeannie" and Langley, VA is where "American Dad!" Stan Smith resides with his family.
7. Which fictional character grew up at 142 Boulder Avenue, Granitetown?

Answer: Barney Rubble

Barney Rubble of "The Flintstones" is said to have grown up on Boulder Avenue in Granitetown before becoming Fred's sidekick and neighbor in Bedrock (but since it wasn't written in stone, it's hard to verify). If you got this one right, you are a great guesser! Barney (the Ed Norton to Fred's Ralph Kramden), Betty and Bamm-Bamm (who somehow managed to possess superhuman strength from gamma rays, spider bites, who knows?) live next door to Fred, Wilma and Pebbles Flintstone who are at 301 Cobblestone Way in Bedrock.

It's just a stone's throw from his job at Slate Rock and Gravel Co., known as Rockhead and Quarry Cave Construction Company before the merger.
8. Whose home address was 9114 South Central, Watts, Los Angeles, California?

Answer: Fred and Lamont Sanford

Did California give it away? Buffy is from Sunnydale, CA but she is not the correct answer, nor are the Scavos from Wisteria Lane or the Taylors from Mayberry, North Carolina. Could Watts have been a clue? The show "Sanford and Son" (1972-1977) about a junk dealer and his son is set in Watts, after the 1965 riots; it starred Redd Foxx (whose real name was John Elroy Sanford) as Fred and Demond Wilson as his frustrated son, Lamont. Based on the BBC sitcom "Steptoe and Son" it was another groundbreaking Norman Lear series. Fred would routinely fake heart attacks and tell his deceased wife "This is the Big One, Elizabeth! I'm coming to join ya honey."
9. Which situation comedy occurred at 730 Knapp Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin?

Answer: Laverne and Shirley

Interestingly, all of the above choices are set in the state of Wisconsin...it might have made it easier if I had included 'Apartment A' as part of the address. "Step by Step" was set in Port Washington, WI and "That '70s Show" was located in Point Place, WI. Since "Laverne and Shirley" (1976-1983) was a spin-off of "Happy Days", logically they both took place in Milwaukee, WI. Laverne and Shirley were bottle cappers at Shotz Brewery (an analog of the Schlitz Brewing Company) and they lived in a basement apartment on Knapp Street - not coincidentally, a real street near the Schlitz Brewery.

The adventures of these 'blue-collar' bottlers were hilarious.
10. Which family owned a house at 518 Crestwood Drive, Beverly Hills, California?

Answer: The Clampetts

Well, the Halliwell sisters from "Charmed" lived at Prescott Street in San Francisco and Jack Tripper had an apartment on Ocean Vista Avenue in Santa Monica, so we can rule them out. Now Brandon and Brenda Walsh and their parents had a Beverly Hills address but it was 933 Hillcrest Drive (apparently they have a lot of 'crests' in Beverly Hills); so it must be the Clampetts mansion from "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1962-1971). Now as the song and story go, Jed was a poor mountaineer (come sing with me) who discovered oil, became a millionaire and was told "Californy is the place you ought to be"..."so they loaded up the truck" and the rest is history!
