Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Any quiz on visually impaired cartoon characters must start with this one. Voiced by "Gilligan's Island's" Jim Backus, Mr. Magoo is a wealthy retiree with which first name?

Answer: Quincy

Quincy Magoo often finds himself in hilarious mayhem because of his nearsightedness. Oftentimes the situation sorts itself out with Magoo coming out on top. He is known for his catchphrase "Oh Magoo, you've done it again!"
2. Which member of Mystery Inc. from the "Scooby-Doo" franchise often loses his or her glasses and exclaims "Help! I can't see without my glasses."?

Answer: Velma

Velma Dinkley frequently loses her glasses, often at the worst possible time. When this happens, she is usually alone and has to crawl around on the ground looking for them. Often, she will encounter the monster during this time and will either mistake it for one of her friends or she will find her glasses and realize the monster was there the whole time. On more than one occasion throughout the multiple series, the monster has actually found her glasses for her.
3. Chuckie Finster, who once had an entire episode called "Chuckie Loses His Glasses", is a character on which children's series?

Answer: Rugrats

Chuckie is famous for being afraid of almost everything, especially "the guy on the oatmeal box". These fears are further exacerbated when Chuckie does not have his glasses on and regular objects look like blurred monsters to him.

In "Chuckie Loses His Glasses", Angelica steals Chuckie's glasses during a game of hide and seek. Chuckie searches for them and breaks a pair he believes are his. He then becomes worried he will never see again. At the end, it is revealed Angelica had the glasses and the ones Chuckie broke were really Grandpa Lou's.
4. On "The Simpsons", which one of Homer's friends is part of a recurring joke about getting random objects in his eye? He often exclaims "Ow, my eye! I'm not supposed to get _______ in it".

Answer: Lenny

Some of the objects Lenny has gotten stuck in his eye are pudding and jigsaw puzzles. Despite this, Lenny does not seem to wear glasses or goggles of any kind. In one Christmas episode, Homer buys Lenny a picture cube with the corners sanded down so they will not injure his eye.
5. On the "Courage, the Cowardly Dog", what are the names of Courage's elderly owners who wear thick eyeglasses?

Answer: Muriel and Eustace Bagge

Muriel and Eustace are an elderly couple who live in Nowhere, Kansas. Their farmhouse is frequently the scene of some kind of bizarre event featuring an equally bizarre villain. Often either Muriel, Eustace or both are oblivious to the events going on around them and Courage has to save them.
6. In the "Family Guy" episode "Blind Ambition", Peter becomes temporary blind after eating what?

Answer: Nickels

Peter gets jealous of Quagmire who is earning a reputation for doing ridiculous things. Peter then tries to upstage Quagmire by setting the world record for most nickels eaten. However, Peter goes blind from nickel poisoning. At the end of the episode, Peter regains his sight via an eye transplant from a hobo who died after being strangled by Peter's guide dog.
7. On "Avatar: The Last Airbender", how did the earthbender Toph Beifong become blind?

Answer: She was born blind.

Toph was born blind to wealthy parents. Her parents kept her hidden from the outside world, believing she would not be able to survive without her sight. Eventually, she became an independent minded earthbender capable of defeating the strongest among her. She is sometimes nicknamed the Blind Bandit.
8. In an episode of "King of the Hill" titled "The Unbearable Blindness of Laying", what causes Hank to temporarily lose his sight?

Answer: He catches his mother making love.

Hank is uncomfortable with his mother dating a man and the fact that he catches the two making love in his home sends him into a temporary blindness. His sight is restored when Gary, his mother's boyfriend, explains that he loves her and will do anything for her, including taking Hank to see a televangelist he was unable to see earlier.
9. In a 2003 episode of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", which ninja turtle becomes blinded when a flash grenade is thrown at him?

Answer: Raphael

Raphael had gone to look for Master Splinter but encountered a young kid named Tyler who needed assistance with some bad guys. A flash grenade is thrown and Raphael is blinded and has to rely on Tyler to help guide him. His sight is returned by the end of the episode.
10. Three of these characters wear sunglasses on a regular basis. Who is the one who normally wears regular eyeglasses?

Answer: Dexter from "Dexter's Laboratory"

Dexter is a kid genius scientist with a secret laboratory. He wears glasses in the style considered stereotypical for a genius.

Alexander is Josie and the Pussycats' manager and Alexandria's brother. He dresses something like a hippie or beatnik. Johnny Bravo is a stereotypical dumb jock who constantly strikes out with the ladies. Snoopy normally only wears sunglasses when he is his alter ego Joe Cool, a college student.
