Her boyfriend, Billy, was clearly nervous, but she told him not to worry. She went in and got the photo, but when she realized she'd left her money in the car, she had to go back out to get it. On her way, Gerry Schnauz bumped her and drugged her.

Mary got to the car and found his body, then collapsed on the ground. As she lay there, Schnauz drove up and abducted her.

Scully tried to reason that heat damage could have melted the emulsion and affected the photographs. Mulder just smiled and nodded, clearly not believing the explanation Scully was giving. She eventually gave up and asked him what his theory was.

They had apparently been intercepting credit card mailings and then using the cards fraudulently.

He was performing what Scully called a transorbital lobotomy, or an ice pick lobotomy. When Mulder deduced that their suspect had a medical background, Scully corrected him, saying that whoever did the lobotomy "did it wrong."

Mulder told her that the killer had disproportionately long legs in the photograph. Scully, meanwhile, was standing in the presence of Schnauz, outfitted in construction stilts. She hung up with Mulder, turned to him, and said simply, "Unruhe." He immediately ran, but she caught him before he could escape.

Answer: his father

Schnauz's father's face was in the distorted images in the first photograph. Schnauz had attacked his father with an axe handle, leaving him in a wheelchair. When Mulder showed Schnauz the image of his father, he broke down a bit and told the agents that he was holding his latest victim where she'd be "safe from the howlers."

Answer: Scully

Scully's already gone outside to pull the car around when Mulder looked at the photo. He realized that Scully was to be the next victim and rushed outside, but was only in time to see Schnauz pull out of the parking lot in Scully's Explorer.

Answer: dentist

Schnauz took the chair from his father's old dentist office in which to operate on his victims. His father had also used Twilight Sleep, which Schnauz used to knock his victims out when abducting them.

Answer: tombstones

There were six white fingers reaching toward Scully's screaming face. Mulder figured out that they were the six tombstones at the site of Schnauz's father's grave and they went to the cemetery. Mulder found a trailer and heard Scully inside. Mulder broke in just in time and saved Scully just in time.
