Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "My Struggle" - Where was Scully working when she received a phone call from Walter Skinner?

Answer: Our Lady of Sorrows Hospital

She was working where we last saw her (in a faith based hospital), in the 2008 feature film "The X Files: I Want to Believe". The hospital, not the same one, was located in Washington D.C. and Scully was washing her hands before a surgery, when a nurse entered to tell her she had a call. Skinner was looking for Mulder, whom he did not know how to reach. Scully called him and let him know. In the second episode, she revealed she'd been working at this particular hospital seven years. Later on in this season, Mulder have Skinner his phone number.

The episode started off with Mulder talking about his life long obsession with UFO and abduction phenomenon. Then we were shown a UFO crashing in the desert of New Mexico in 1947.
2. "My Struggle" - Who played Tad O'Malley, the conspiracy theorist newsman who had contacted the FBI in order to reach Mulder?

Answer: Joel McHale

Scully told Mulder about this man Tad, and how Skinner wanted to know if Mulder was interested in meeting him. Mulder told Scully to let Skinner know he could set up a meeting. Scully met Mulder outside near a street, they exchanged a small greeting, and then Tad pulled up in a limo. He offered them champagne and they both declined. He was host of the web series "Truth Squad" and turned out to be even more paranoid than Mulder.

Joel McHale may be better known for his comedic talents on shows like "Talk Soup" and "Community".
3. "My Struggle" - Mulder and Scully met a multiple abductee named Sveta. Did she believe that aliens had taken her unborn fetuses?

Answer: No

Tad introduced them to her, a young woman in her mid to late twenties. But, she told Mulder that he'd interviewed her before, right after her first abduction. She claimed to have alien DNA inside her, showed them weird scars on her abdomen, and allowed Scully to examine her. During that exam, she showed her ability to read minds pretty convincingly. When Mulder came to see her later, she told him she believed it was human men taking the babies and not aliens. Annet Mahendru played Sveta. She also starred on the series "The Americans". The episode ended with CSM finding out that the X-Files had been reopened. He didn't die in the first series finale after all. We later find out more about how he recovered from the missile that hit his location.

This first episode of the miniseries (also called season ten) debuted January 24, 2016 and was written and directed by Chris Carter.
4. "Founder's Mutation" - Near the beginning of the episode, Dr. Sanjay killed himself while locked inside a room of servers. What tool did he use to end his life?

Answer: Letter opener

He was locked in the room, and security was so high for the servers that his colleagues could not get inside in time to save him. He had accessed the servers and was looking for something, all while hearing voices. Just before they could drill out the lock, he wrote something on his hand and shoved a letter opener inside his ear. Scully referenced the letter opener on scene and during her autopsy of Dr. Sanjay. He'd written "Founder's Mutation" on his hand. He also told his friend Gupta that his "kids were dying" before he killed himself. Beautiful Canadian actor Christopher Logan played Sanjay.

This episode premiered on January 25, 2016. It was written and directed by James Wong. He also directed the season four episode "Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man", and wrote over fifteen episodes for the series.
5. "Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster" - After talking to a local psychiatrist, Mulder was able to locate the "monster" at the cemetery. How did Guy Mann, the were-lizard, say he had been changed?

Answer: He'd been bitten by a human man

He'd been an ordinary man sized lizard who could project blood from his eyes. Then, one evening a couple of human men happened upon him in the forest and one of them bit him on the neck. The next morning, he woke up not as a lizard, but as a human male. He hated it, the self awareness and face he did not recognize. Mulder saw him turn from human to lizard, as he was getting ready to go into hibernation for 10,000 years. The killer, and person who turned the lizard into Guy Mann, was Pasha (the animal control worker). Kumail Nanjiani played Pasha, and starred on the series "Silicon Valley" as well.

This episode premiered on February 1, 2016. It was written and directed by Darin Morgan. He had previously written five other episodes of the series. Rhys Darby played Guy Mann, aka the were-lizard. In the cemetery scene, Guy was standing in front of a grave stone with the name Jack Hardy carved on it, and Mulder was standing in front of one with Kim Manners carved on it. Jack was the first assistant director on the 2008 "X-Files" feature film and worked on both "The Lone Gunmen" and "Millennium", spin-offs of the show. He passed away in March 2015. Kim Manners worked extensively on "The X-Files", as well as "Supernatural", until his death in January 2009. His brother, Kelly Manners, worked on "Buffy" and "Angel".

Other Easter Eggs in this episode - the red Speedo that Mulder wore in season two's "Duane Barry" could be seen on him when he was sleeping in his motel room; Mulder's ringtone was the "X-Files" theme song; and actors Tyler Labine and Nicole Parker Smith, who previously appeared as the same stoner characters in two other episodes from season three.
6. "Home Again" - In this episode, an avenging creature was killing people associated with relocating the homeless. Inadvertently created by an artist known as Trash Man, what kind of creature was it?

Answer: Tulpa

The creature would come to the intended victims and rip them apart. It was known as the Band-Aid Nose Man, and created out of clay. This kind of creature is similar to a Golem. Mulder and Scully first encountered a Tulpa in the season six episode "Arcadia". Also in this episode, Dana's mother died after a heart attack. She awoke briefly when she heard the voice of her son Charlie, looked at Mulder and said, "My son is named William too".

This episode premiered on February 8, 2016. It was written and directed by Glen Morgan. Glen had previously written quite a few episodes of the series, as well as episodes of both "The Lone Gunmen" and "Millennium". Musician Tim Armstrong played Trash Man and John DeSantis played the Tulpa. DeSantis also played a Golem on "Supernatural".
7. "Babylon" - Mulder and Scully were approached by fellow FBI agents about communicating with a terrorist who was in a vegetative state after a suicide bombing at a Texas art gallery. What were the names of these agents, whose personalities bore a striking resemble to Mulder and Scully's own?

Answer: Miller and Einstein

Red haired hazel eyed agent Einstein was a skeptic like Scully, and brown haired blue eyed Miller was open like Mulder. Mulder thought he convinced Einstein to acquire some kind of hallucinogenic mushroom that might able him to communicate with the brain dead terrorist. Scully convinced Miller to allow her to use a more scientific approach to asking yes or no questions of the same man. During his "trip", Mulder saw the Lone Gunmen and his father, the CSM. Even though Einstein swore she only gave him niacin pills, nothing controlled, he did see the terrorist and his mother. The mother came to the hospital the next day, and it was the same women Mulder saw. The incorrect options are all musical aliases used by the Winchester brothers during season ten of "Supernatural".

This episode premiered on February 15, 2016. It was written and directed by Chris Carter. Lauren Ambrose of "Six Feet Under" fame played Einstein and Robbie Amell played Miller. Robbie has also appeared on "The Flash", and his cousin Stephen on "Arrow".
8. "My Struggle II" - In her opening narration, did Scully admit she believed her own DNA to contain anomalies that could only be alien in nature?

Answer: Yes

"My Struggle II" was about Scully's struggle, as "My Struggle" was about Mulder's. She, like Mulder in the premier episode, narrated about her experience in the FBI while working on the X-Files. She talked about being a medical doctor brought in to debunk Mulder's work, how she was abducted when she began to suspect Mulder may be right, and she was left with a life threatening illness.
9. "My Struggle II" - Which former agent called Scully to let her know she was safe from the ongoing human eradication?

Answer: Monica Reyes

Annabeth Gish returned as Monica Reyes. She told Scully that Scully's abduction had left her protected, that Scully was one of the "chosen". She admitted she'd taken a deal ten years earlier from the CSM to become one of the chosen as well. The human eradication had begun in 2012, and Reyes believed there would be no stopping it. Meanwhile, Tad O'Malley was back online warning people of this very conspiracy as Mulder made his way to dear old dad.
10. "My Struggle II" - What was the name of the virus causing most of the humans to lose their immune systems?

Answer: Spartan

Scully had the alien DNA required to fight off this virus. Tad O'Malley reported that it was being let lose en mass using chemical contrails from planes. She and Agent Einstein figured it out together, that the smallpox vaccine had made most humans and their descendants vulnerable to Spartan, by injecting something into their human DNA that would allow Spartan to turn off their immune systems. So, people were getting sick from illnesses long cured or currently curable. She made a vaccine and used it on Einstein first. Then she went to Agent Miller and Mulder to save them. But, she realized Mulder was too far gone and needed stem cells from their son William. But, she had no idea where William was located. Just then, from above came a beam of light from what appeared to be an alien craft. That was how the miniseries/season ten came to a close, on a cliffhanger.

This episode premiered on February 22, 2016. It was directed by Chris Carter, teleplay by Chris Carter, and story idea from Dr. Anne Simon and Dr. Margaret Fearon. Captain Trips is the virus from Stephen King's "The Stand", The Flare is from the "Maze Runner" series, and Greyscale is from George R.R. Martin's book series "A Song of Ice and Fire" from which the series "Game of Thrones" is based.
