Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Having left the FBI many years ago, where was Scully working at the beginning of the episode?

Answer: A hospital

As Scully was preparing to go into surgery, she received a phone call from her old boss, Walter Skinner who was still an Assistant Director at the FBI. Scully then made a call to Mulder to tell him that Skinner was looking for him. When Mulder asked why Skinner didn't call him directly, Scully pointed out that, "He doesn't know how to reach you, Mulder, I barely know how myself". Skinner wanted to know if Mulder was familiar with Tad O'Malley because O'Malley had contacted the FBI, wanting to meet Mulder. Mulder told Scully to "Tell Skinner to set it up", and then told her, "Don't pretend I'm going alone".
2. What was Tad O'Malley's occupation?

Answer: Host of a conspiracy theory show

Tad O'Malley met Mulder and Scully in downtown Washington DC and gave them a ride in his bullet-proof limousine. Mulder asked him, "How's a man with your conservative credentials count himself a believer in UFOs and 9/11 false flag conspiracies?" and told him that he thought O'Malley's show was "'The O'Reilly Factor' with a shopworn little gimmick". O'Malley responded that, "What Bill O'Reilly knows about the truth could fill an eye-dropper".

He told Mulder that he was a true believer and was working on a case that would "blow open the most evil conspiracy the world has ever known" but he needed Mulder's help.
3. Tad O'Malley took Mulder and Scully to meet a young woman named Sveta who lived in a remote area of Virginia. How did Sveta know Mulder?

Answer: He had interviewed her when she was young.

O'Malley drove them to a remote house in an area called Low Moor, Virginia. "Aliens couldn't find this place", Scully sarcastically remarked. They met a young woman named Sveta, whom O'Malley said had asked him to contact Mulder and Scully. When Mulder asked her how she knew about them, she said that she had met him, but he probably wouldn't recognize her. "No, I think I'd remember", Mulder said as she was quite pretty. Sveta told him that he had interviewed her and her family when she was a young girl, "Right after my first abduction".

She told them that she had been abducted many times, and had been impregnated many times but "the aliens take the babies before they are born".
4. Flashback to the Roswell crash site: Who was shot near the crash site?

Answer: An alien

The doctor and soldiers were following a trail of "blood" that led into the wilderness when they found an alien dragging itself away from the crash site. The "man in black" who had accompanied the doctor at the site shot the alien with a pistol, claiming that it could be dangerous, and then the other soldiers opened fire.

The doctor screamed in horror, "What have you done?" He later carried the body away. When the "man in black" asked him where he was going "with that thing", the doctor said that he was "a man of medicine" and asked why the man had brought him there if he didn't want him to help.
5. Tad O'Malley arrived via helicopter at Sveta's house where he picked up Mulder and took him to a secret location inside a large warehouse. What did Mulder see demonstrated at the site?

Answer: Alien Replica Vehicle

"I was right about one thing - conspiracies have made you a very rich man," Mulder said when he saw the helicopter. When they arrived at the site (and O'Malley removed the cloth bag that had been put over Mulder's head), O'Malley asked him if he knew what an ARV was. "That's an alien replica vehicle?" asked Mulder, indicating the item they were approaching. O'Malley introduced him to Garner, who was surprised that Mulder had never seen an ARV "given his background". For the first time in the episode, Mulder looked truly engaged and excited.

He watched the vehicle hover about six feet off the ground, running on "zero-point energy, simply the energy of the universe". O'Malley said that the government had had that energy knowledge since the 1940s, but as Mulder pointed out "oil companies [were] making trillions" during that period. Mulder then watched as the ARV disappeared, which Garner said was due to element 150, unpentnilium.
6. Scully took blood samples from Sveta at the hospital and also ran tests on herself. What were the tests for?

Answer: Alien DNA

When they first met Sveta, she claimed to have alien DNA so Mulder asked Scully to run a test. Sveta told Scully that she could read people's minds and move things, but when Scully asked her to demonstrate, she said that it wasn't something she could control.

She did demonstrate her mind reading skills, telling Scully that she knew that Mulder and Scully had been a couple and had a child, but that Mulder's depression came between them. After Sveta told her that Scully didn't know what it was like to be abducted, Sveta paused and then said, "Maybe you do". Later, given her own history with abduction, Scully decided to test her own blood. Tad O'Malley showed up at the hospital while she was withdrawing the blood, and when he asked her if she was testing for alien DNA, she told him it was for high cholesterol.
7. When Mulder and Scully had first met Sveta, she had told them that aliens had abducted her, but Mulder had noticed that she had looked at Tad O'Malley before answering the questions. What did she tell Mulder later when he talked to her alone?

Answer: Men had taken her, not aliens

Mulder went back to see Sveta, and he asked her about the interview they had earlier. He had seen her look at Tad O'Malley before she answered questions about her abductions and pregnancies. She said that she didn't believe it was aliens who had abducted her.

She said it was men, and that she saw their faces. She told Mulder that she couldn't tell anyone because she didn't know whom to trust, and when Mulder said that she could trust him, she pointed out that he worked for the government and asked him if he wondered "if they were lying to you too?"
8. When Mulder returned to his old office in the basement of the FBI with Skinner, what was hanging from the ceiling in the office?

Answer: Pencils

Mulder had a habit of tossing pencils at the ceiling like darts, and even though the room was pretty much cleared out, the pencils - more than twenty of them - remained. Mulder had come to the office looking for the old X-Files which were gone, although Skinner claimed that no one had been down to the office since Mulder had left fourteen years ago. Mulder said he needed access to the files to get answers.

He told Skinner that he had wasted ten years of his life in that office "and all the time I was being led by my nose through a dark alley to a dead end, exactly as they planned", and he told Skinner "I'm sure they lied to you too".
9. After talking with Skinner, Mulder met an elderly man late at night on the National Mall park. Who was the man?

Answer: The doctor from Roswell

The doctor from Roswell had apparently contacted Mulder ten years earlier because he "couldn't take [his] secrets to the grave" and told him that if Mulder ever "put the pieces together that [he] would confirm" it. Mulder said he "was being cleverly manipulated" in the past, but now he had met someone and seen something that he felt made him aware of the truth.

He said that the abductions were claimed to be alien abductions, but they were actually abductions by men so that the alien technology could be tested: "Alien technology being used against us, not by aliens, not with aliens, but by a venial conspiracy of men against humanity". Mulder asked him what the tests were for, and the doctor responded, "You tell me, Mr. Mulder".

He told Mulder, "You're nearly there. You're close".

The doctor had one final comment, "Roswell. That was a smoke screen".
10. After Tad O'Malley went public with his allegations, Sveta told reporters that he had paid her to claim she had been abducted. What appeared to happen to Sveta at the end of the episode?

Answer: Her car was blown up with her in it.

Mulder, Scully, and Tad O'Malley all convened at Sveta's house where Mulder told them that the alien abductions were a lie, and then O'Malley explained that the ploy was developed so that a group of men could take control of the country and eventually the world by controlling food, drugs, healthcare, militarizing the police, etc. and that the populace would be controlled out of fear by simulating an alien invasion. Scully told them they were crazy; they couldn't make the wild allegations public. But O'Malley did just that, and things imploded. Sveta was seen on television, telling the press that O'Malley had paid her to tell the stories about alien abductions. Mulder said "They got to her"; he went to her house but she was gone.

The Alien Replica Vehicle was destroyed; Army vehicles entered the hangar where the ARV was, soldiers got out, knocked down the men working there and then blew up the ARV, killing the men with it.

When Scully checked O'Malley's website later, it was down. Scully told Mulder that they needed to find Sveta and protect her.

She told Mulder she re-ran Sveta's blood tests and sequenced the entire genome and that she did the same to her own DNA. When Mulder asked her what she was saying, she responded, "She's not the only one". She didn't say for certain that there was alien DNA, but she said "someone needs to stop these [men]". Mulder then received a text from Skinner telling him that he needed to see both of them ASAP. Sveta, meanwhile, was driving down a deserted road when her vehicle died. A beam of light from an ARV shined down on her through her sun roof. As she opened the door to escape, the car blew up and the ARV flew away.
