Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Three days is all you have to stop the moon from crashing into the land of Termina in what "Legend of Zelda" game?

Answer: Majora's Mask

There's a catch behind this. As Link falls into the land of Termina in pursuit of a magical mask dealer, he stumbles into a world beset by a horrible curse-- that of the Skull Kid being controlled by Majora's Mask and who's set the moon to crash into Clock Town at the end of seventy-two hours.

This doesn't mean in-game hours though; you have even less time to get the job done. Fortunately, Link's Ocarina of Time contains the power needed to turn back the clock. You can alter time (and go back in time) by playing the magical songs given to him.

It does undo a great deal of progress, though. You are turning back time, after all.
2. You literally race against a clock-- T.T.-- in what Nintendo 64 and DS video game created by Rare?

Answer: Diddy Kong Racing

There are only two unlockable characters in "Diddy Kong Racing" (N64), one being the rooster, Drumstick, and the other being T.T. the Time Trial clock. While Drumstick is a bit easier to collect (you run over him, as a frog, since he's been transformed by the evil Wizpig, and it magically brings him into the fold), T.T. is a bit more difficult since you need to first access him in each track's time trial course (including the space levels) and beat him in every single one.

Some tracks require near-perfect runs to accomplish this feat. You beat him and he's yours.
3. You have seventy-two hours to escape in your pre-scheduled helicopter in what zombie game set in a shopping mall?

Answer: Dead Rising

It's actually significantly less time in real life (think maybe six hours), but escaping the mall via helicopter is, technically, optional. Nonetheless, this significant gimmick behind this game is that you're trapped in a mall a la "Dawn of the Dead" and you need to complete missions while navigating your way through the shops and corridors of the zombie-infested building.
"Left 4 Dead 2" also contains a shopping mall level, but you escape it in a race car! No time limit there.
4. A number of old-school sidescrollers featured a timer for level completion. What could have happened if you ran out of time in "Sonic the Hedgehog"?

Answer: You drowned

While many sidescroller "Super Mario" games featured countdown timers to urge players to finish the level at a quicker pace, the original "Sonic the Hedgehog" games did the opposite, introducing a timer that counted up from 0:00 to record time and score.

Informally, the game had a ten minute timer as well, but only drowning would have been a viable option of those listed. If Sonic stayed underwater for too long a time (in certain levels that included underwater portions, of course) then a timer would eventually show up until he breathed in air (at the surface or via bubbles). If the timer reached zero, Sonic would drown and lose a life regardless of ring totals.
5. In this game, you need to use precise motion controls to...of all things...defuse a bomb before the time runs out. What's this 2006 medical-themed Wii game?

Answer: Trauma Center: Second Opinion

In this game, you act as a surgeon who specializes in curing horrible diseases, but much of this one (the second in the series) consists of trying to stop a horrible new strain called GUILT. The story gets a bit off-the-walls at some point as not only do new mutations come up, but you have to-- not joking-- use your skills in precision surgery to defuse a bomb in a busy building.

It's made all the more difficult since your tools are a Wii Remote and nunchuk. The original, "Under the Knife", was a Nintendo DS game; a stylus is much more precise.
6. The timer for the 'microgames' in this Wii title typically only lasts about six seconds. What's the name of the game?

Answer: Warioware: Smooth Moves

In this 2007 Wii game, you could either play through the general story or unlock a multiplayer mode in which you needed to perfect dozens of different 'forms', positions that you could use the Wii Remote in, to accomplish feats in what the game referred to as 'microgames'-- and yes, they were even quicker than mini-games.

Although the timer was often set for a minimal amount of time, the rapid-fire multiplayer mode featured even shorter timers to ensure everyone was just frantic enough.
7. If you don't get inside before nighttime, you'll likely fall into the hands of the Volatiles in which of these games?

Answer: Dying Light

In this first-person action game by the makes of "Dead Island", the goal is to survive as you make your way through the city of Harran which, while sealed off, has been infected with horrible zombies. During the day, the zombies can be dangerous in and of themselves, but at night you run the risk of coming across Volatiles, much stronger and faster zombies capable of tracking you by sight and sound.

There's usually the option to stay in at night, but some missions require you to take the risk and free-run your way to victory or safety (if you can).
8. The timer ticks away before your very eyes if you're holding the bomb, but you'll need other people to read the manual in what multiplayer team game?

Answer: Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

"Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes" started as a PC game but slowly ported to consoles and handhelds over time, but the concept is the same no matter what you play on. One person has the bomb-- they see it, can pick it up, and can deal with its intricacies. All other players do not see the bomb, and it's their job to go through a several-dozen-page manual (you can print it out!) to solve the puzzles as they're communicated by the bomb defuser.

Some puzzles involve letters and numbers, symbols, morse code, mazes, and other types of lateral thinking tricks. And if you screw up enough, the timer doesn't matter. Boom!
9. You only have thirty days (in-game) to get enough parts and fly your spaceship back home to Planet Hocotate in what Gamecube game?

Answer: Pikmin

Released as a new IP on the Gamecube, "Pikmin" put you in the role of Olimar, a spaceman delivering goods for the Hocotate Freight company who happens to land on an alien planet (presumed to be a Earth as the series goes on). You use a whistle and tossing abilities to guide Pikmin, helpful little flower creatures, to different parts of your spaceship in an effort to put the pieces back together. You don't need them all, but you definitely need a bulk of them to be able to take off and make it home (just in time to fly back out for "Pikmin 2").
10. Part of "Jackbox Party Pack 6", what party game involves identifying the aliens amongst your group before the time runs out?

Answer: Push the Button

Created by the wonderful people who brought the world "You Don't Know Jack!" in the 1990s, Jackbox Games started releasing annual 'Party Packs' in the mid-2010s, each one containing a handful of unique puzzlers and active games that can be played on mobile devices instead of with conventional controllers. 'Press the Button' is one such game, appearing in "Jackbox Party Pack 6" (2019), and it involves several people on a spaceship, a small handful of whom are meant to act deceptive as aliens while the others try to figure out their identities.

The alien players can through the humans off, but in the end, one of the humans needs to send the correct aliens out into space before time runs out.
