Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which powerful, ancient civilization found in the every other "Civilization" game I-V, is actually not one of the choices in this game?

Answer: Babylon

Even from his first version of the game, Sid Meier had included the Babylonians as one of the choices of civilizations, though he opted to not include them in "Civilization Revolution". Greece, Egypt, and China have also been in every other earlier game, but these are also found "Revolution".
2. If you would want to get an early start on a cultural victory, which of these civilizations begins the game with a Wonder of the World already in its capital?

Answer: Egypt

Though it does not necessarily have to be the Great Pyramid of Egypt, the Egyptians do get to start the game with a Wonder. This is particularly advantageous since this wonder not only gives the civilization one point towards a cultural victory but it also provides the city with its own means of creating even more culture.

This can be compared to a civilization like America which gets a great person that does not necessarily provide extra culture.
3. Which civilization is a lustrous, lime green color?

Answer: Russia

Unlike some of the previous releases, in "Revolution" all civilizations do not vary colors depending on which civilizations are in the game. Russia in this game is always the same bright green color.
4. Which civilization begins the game with access to all special resources?

Answer: India

Every civilization begins with a special ability as well as an ability that comes from being in the ancient age. All special resources on the map such as fish, gold, sulfur, etc. can only be used after that civilization has researched the proper technology. India, however, has the ability to use all right from the beginning.
5. There are several civilization which begin the game with a free technology, though only one acquires a free technology when it enters the modern age. Which civilization acquires the Communism technology for free when it enters the Modern Era?

Answer: Mongolia

In the 20th century most of the entirety of the past Mongol Empire became communist, including all of central Asia, Russia, China, and even the Mongol heartland which remained independent of China and the Soviet Union. In the game, China can actually acquire both writing and literature by advancing in earlier ages but not communism.
6. Which civilization is the only to have a special unit which replaces the galley?

Answer: Greece

This special unit is the trireme. Though special units do not necessarily have any given benefits as they do in other "Civilization" games, they do appear different. Generally they are chosen because that civilization has a special connection to the unit in history.

The trireme was a special ship used by the Greeks which was extra fast and designed to ram other ships. This design of ship helped defeat a much larger fleet of invading Persians at the battle of Salamis.
7. Which civilization begins the game with its capital at Tripoli?

Answer: Arabia

Unlike previous titles, in "Revolution" when a player builds a city, they are given a choice of three different names for the city being built except the capital. The first city's name always remains the same. Tripoli which is now a huge city and the capital of Libya, was a major city along the Mediterranean coast, during the Arabic Empire.

The Arabic Empire stretched from Spain, along the northern coast of Africa, through to India. Saladin's domain was a fragment of this empire which was based in Egypt, nearby to Tripoli.
8. In the game, most civilizations start out in a despotic government. However, some special civilizations begin with a special government which other civilizations must discover later. Which civilization begins the game in a republic?

Answer: Rome

Rome, which historically was a republic for a long period before becoming an empire, begins the game in a republic as well as the technology needed to change to it (Code of Laws). The difference between republic and despotism is that settlers cost less population to build. Greece starts as a democracy.
9. If you were determined to be the first civilization to discover the ancient relic, Atlantis, which civilization would you be?

Answer: Spain

To know this, one must first know that Atlantis is never found on land or within two spaces of any land. This means that a player cannot reach it without an advanced ship. Spain begins the game with the knowledge of Navigation which allows them to build a galleon right from the start which has the ability to transverse oceans and reach Atlantis.
10. Which of the following civilizations does NOT have a special fighter unit?

Answer: France

France has a special catapult and artillery but not fighter. England has the spitfire fighter, Germany has the ME109 fighter, and Japan has the zero fighter.
