His initial idea was based in a Pentomino (12 different shapes of 5 blocks), while working in a game for testing equipment. He notice this was too much for a real time game, and reduced the program to seven shapes of four blocks. Tetris name are taken from tetra, the Greek word for four. The first version of the game was progammed in Pascal in 1985.
