Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Whereabouts does Kongo Jungle appear on the overall world map?

Answer: Near the bottom

Donkey Kong starts the game somewhere slightly off the main track of the map on a spot that isn't visited during the game. He moves ahead, however, northeast on the map, to Kongo Jungle, the starting area of the game and, obviously, the most basic. This area is DK's home; set in a lush jungle it's in one of the bottom reaches on the map towards the coast. Playing through the stages, you head upwards, looping counter-clockwise on the map until you reach King K. Rool's Gangplank Galleon (which also happens to be the first world in "Donkey Kong Country 2".
2. The first level of the game is Jungle Hijinxs. What can be found inside Donkey Kong's treehouse?

Answer: A one-up balloon

The first level of the game, Jungle Hijinxs, begins with Donkey Kong bursting from his treehouse at the start of the level. Before even beginning the game, you're given the chance to climb back up and reenter the home to find a red one-up balloon; you have to bounce on a really bouncy floor tire to get it though. You can also walk into the cave beneath the treehouse to find the former home of DK's 'Kong Banana Hoard'. Of course, the cave is empty, prompting the adventure ahead, but y'know. Context.
3. What is the name of the animal companion who can be used in Jungle Hijinxs, the game's first level?

Answer: Rambi

Rambi, a mainstay throughout the "Donkey Kong" series beginning with this game, is a rhino who, when used, can plow through enemies with brute force and his powerful horn. Although Rambi doesn't appear until mid-way through Jungle Hijinxs and the majority of the stage is performed on flat ground with minimal pitfalls, he can still charge through foes, particularly the Gnawty beavers lined up shortly after you open his crate. Rambi reappears in later stages of the game, of course.
4. Ropey Rampage, the second stage of Kongo Jungle, is the first to feature which of these popular enemies?

Answer: Zinger

Ropey Rampage, the game's second level, takes place entirely during a jungle rainstorm. This time it's up to Donkey Kong and Diddy to traverse large pits with heroic rope swings, swaying over the gaps (and enemies) to reach the exit cave. This is the player's first major stage to involve timing and precision; rope jumps take place above the ground, adding a new dimension to the platforming style.

It's also the first stage to feature the spiky Zinger enemies and the rolling Armies; TNT Barrels also make their first appearance here.
5. Who is the first non-playable Kong the player can visit? (HINT: This can be done after the second level, Ropey Rampage.)

Answer: Cranky Kong

Cranky, hinted to be the original Donkey Kong from the arcade and NES versions of "Donkey Kong" (you know-- with Jumpman?!), can be found in the third slot on the Kongo Jungle map, right between the second and third level. He makes reappearances in the various maps throughout the "Donkey Kong Country" series until becoming a playable character in "Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze" (Wii U). Cranky gives a few hints and tips about the game but, otherwise, he's quite pointless, often serving as a momentary whining session between levels.
6. The area's third level, Reptile Rumble, takes place in which environment?

Answer: Cave

Reptile Rumble takes place entirely underground and, aside from introducing the Kong to a few new enemies (yes, reptiles), only serves as a level to hone what you already know. Many parts of this level feature bouncy tires to leap across larger gaps as well as tight crevasses to squeeze through but, once you reach the end, the caves seem to be no more for the Kongo Jungle. Fortunately, many levels of the next area of the game, the Monkey Mines, also take place underground.
7. Coral Capers takes place entirely underwater. What is the name of the animal companion found in this level?

Answer: Enguarde

Coral Capers brings the Kongs from the caves into the lake on the other side. The stage forces the player to maneuver through the water, swimming around enemies as they move in straight lines or predetermined tracks. Sharks, octopi, clams, and simple fish all act as obstacles in this level, but you can always locate Enguarde at two different points in the stage, riding him to victory not only at a faster speed, but also with the added bonus of having a spiky face. See, Enguarde can jab enemies immediately in front, and sometimes that's only necessary.
8. What is the name of the Kongo Jungle's fifth level, featuring blasting and moving barrels?

Answer: Barrel Cannon Canyon

Barrel Cannon Canyon, perhaps too aptly, features a slew of barrel cannons throughout the level forcing players to use timing and precision to shoot from one barrel to another in succession; a single bad shot can blast the Kongs into a Zinger or, worse, into a pit. This is the final level of the Kongo Jungle before the boss battle.

A helpful tip: to avoid a good chunk of the start of the level, climbing up onto the entry cave can lead you to a hidden barrel cannon which can fire you over the tree canopy to safety.
9. Is there anywhere to save your game in Kongo Jungle?

Answer: Yes

Sure enough, Candy and Funky both appear in the Kongo Jungle (though Funky appears before Barrel Cannon Canyon, the fifth stage, and Candy appears afterwards). While Funky is generally useless on your first playthrough of Kongo Jungle (since there's nowhere else to fly quite yet), Candy will save your game using her saving star barrel (at Candy's Save Point).

In the case of Kongo Jungle, she appears at the very end of the area, right before the boss, and won't charge a dime. Saving in later games, however...
10. Very Gnawty, the boss of Kongo Jungle, is defeated when you jump on him how many times?

Answer: Five

Very Gnawty, unlike his smaller counterparts, hops around to fight off the Kongs and, in all fairness, does not do so too successfully. The boss battle ends when the player hops onto Gnawty's head five times and, unlike later bosses (in any of the "Donkey Kong Country" games), has no real defense mechanism. Every hit on the head speeds up his hopping, increasing his leaps a minuscule amount, but the tactic remains the same throughout: don't get hit, but hit him.

When Very Gnawty is defeated in his banana-lined lair, the Kongs reclaim a bit of their hoard, a giant banana drops from the sky, and DK and Diddy can head onward to the Monkey Mines.
