Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the avian-themed name of the first level in Vine Valley?

Answer: Vulture Culture

Vulture Culture is so named because the majority of enemies faced throughout the course are vultures (a la Master Necky) which fly back and forth (or in place). There are also a number of birds which will throw nuts at the Kongs, always in a single direction.

Much of this level involves traversing leaf-strewn paths and crossing large gaps in barrels. As such, Zingers are found throughout the level to make things just a little bit more awkward. Stinkin' bees.
2. Tree Top Town is not populated by which of these creatures?

Answer: Klaptraps

Tree Top Town is an interesting level set entirely on the wooden passageways between the tree canopies of the Vine Valley forests. While much of the stage involves avoiding leaping Kritters and scuttling Gnawties along the course, most of your time will likely be spent blasting around in the series of barrels crossing the pits between trees.

Some of these have failsafes, designed to help if you end up messing up on a really easy shot, but most do not, and the level can become frustrating without patience and timing.
3. You've just completed Tree Top Town for the first time. Immediately after, is it possible to save your game?

Answer: Yes

While Candy's Save Barrel won't appear for a couple more levels, Funky's Flights can be accessed immediately after you complete Tree Top Town, making him of particular use. If you need the save you can fly back to Kongo Jungle or Monkey Mines, both of which have accessible save points, and do the job there, returning via Funky's other locations when you're ready to continue to the next level of the game.
4. The majority of the Forest Frenzy level is crossed via which means?

Answer: Ropes

In one of the more challenging rope-themed levels yet, much of Forest Frenzy involves holding on as ropes pull Donkey Kong and Diddy across the stage. In this particular level, the ropes not only swing from side to side, they also hang straight down and slide across the stage, passing through Zingers and flying vultures (Neckies) without a real care.

By the end of the level you'll be side-swinging moving targets with (erm...) ease.
5. Temple Tempest revisits the millstone enemies found in the Monkey Mines. What's different about them, however?

Answer: They chase after DK and Diddy

Oddly, a temple graces the shoreline of the Vine Valley, forcing DK and Diddy to revisit the environment first seen in Millstone Mayhem back in the Monkey Mines. In fact, the main gimmicks there-- the millstones operated by a Gnawty, almost like a hamster in a wheel-- make their reappearance in this level.

The only difference is that while the original millstones stayed in place, these ones actually chase them through the level until they get stuck in an inescapable pit. Luckily, the level also has those too.
6. Does the Orang-utan Gang level contain actual orangutan enemies?

Answer: Yes

The first enemies in the game to be primates, the orangutans of Orang-utan Gang force the player to look back a bit. Much of their role in this stage (their only stage, in fact, in Vine Valley) involves picking up and throwing barrels at the Kongs. Now now, you can't really get angry; it would be hypocritical to complain that a primate is throwing barrels at you, as Donkey Kong.

The level is played out primarily on treetops-- the last such level in the Vine Valley.
7. Which animal companion makes an appearance in the Orang-utan Gang level?

Answer: Expresso

Expresso makes only a few appearances in "Donkey Kong Country" and then disappears in subsequent games (like Winky the Frog). With long legs, a faster speed, and the ability to flutter through the sky, Expresso is a helpful companion, especially in this level since most of the stage sits above the ground.

While Expresso can walk over the heads of lower-to-the-ground enemies, a single tap will send him running. Skittish bird.
8. Does Cranky Kong appear in Vine Valley?

Answer: Yes

Cranky appears after the fifth level, Orang-utan Gang, and gives his usual hints, tips, and gripes. He continues to do so in the different stages of the game until the final one. Cranky is the sixth on the Vine Valley Route. Candy comes second of the three, appearing on the map after Temple Tempest. Until that point you can always use Funky to fly you to a save point; she's simply convenient in the latter half of your trip around this stage of the game.
9. In Clam City, what is the maximum number of pearls you'll see fired from a clam in a single shot?

Answer: Five

Clam City is the only underwater level in Vine Valley and it's the sixth and final stage before the boss battle. Although the level features no new enemies, it features trickier navigation and a higher concentration of the same foes. On top of this, the clams, as would be expected, are placed out on the course in droves, forcing you to dodge pearl shots all over the place.

While some clams only shoot one pearl at a time, others shoot two, or three, or even five depending on their placement and how far into the level you've traveled. Clams can not be 'defeated', nor can their pearls, so avoiding them is key.
10. With which of these do you need to defeat the Queen B. at the end of Vine Valley?

Answer: Barrels

Queen B., being a gigantic Zinger enemy, is different from the two earlier bosses because of her inability to be jumped on, and since that was the main battle strategy for both Very Gnawty and Master Pecky, a new idea needs to come forth. Luckily for DK and Diddy, barrels appear on the floor during battle, giving a method to end her madness. Five barrels to the bee (while in her yellow form) will end the battle.

She won't make it too easy though. After every hit, she goes into a fury, turns red, and flies up and down along the stage. Once she's down, though, she's down.
