Ashley would always claim that she was not very good at expressing herself, and so she would quote poetry to help. Her father was an avid reader of poetry, and managed to instill a similar love in his daughters.

In "Mass Effect", Liara, the asari, could be romanced by either male or female Shepard. Ashley could be romanced by male Shepard, and Kaidan could be romanced by female Shepard.

Jacob and Traynor could only be romanced by female Shepard.

Many fans of the series really liked the characters in "Mass Effect", but were upset that they couldn't get closer to some of the more interesting ones. "Mass Effect 2" fixed this by making Garrus Vakarian and Tali'Zorah romance options for female and male Shepard respectively.

There were six possible squad members in "Mass Effect". Ashley, Kaidan, and Liara were all possible love interests in "Mass Effect". Garrus and Tali became potential love interests in "Mass Effect 2". Only the centuries-old Wrex was never a potential love interest.

Answer: Morinth

In "Mass Effect 2", if Shepard sided with Morinth over Samara, then Shepard could choose to try a relationship with Morinth after completing the suicide mission. Because she was an Ardat-Yakshi, the experience would kill Shepard and a critical mission failure message would be displayed. Players just had to reload their most recent save, and not attempt the relationship.

In "Mass Effect 2", Mordin would notice if Shepard became interested in any of the romance options on the Normandy. Mordin would offer advice and manuals on how avoid problems when perusing a relationship with someone with biotics, or who was of a different species.

In the first two games, only squad members were romance options (who granted the Paramour achievement). "Mass Effect 3" added two non-squad crew members whom Shepard could romance: Steve Cortez, the shuttle pilot, and Samantha Traynor, the communications specialist.

Wrex and James were both squad members, but could not be romanced. Jack was a squad member from "Mass Effect 2", and could be romanced by male Shepard.

Answer: Cortez

In "Mass Effect" and "Mass Effect 2", all the possible relationships were hetero relationships, with the sole exception of Liara being available to both male and female Shepards (though because asari have only one gender, the labeling starts to lose its meaning).

"Mass Effect 3" introduced two characters who were only available for same-sex relationships: Traynor and Cortez.

Answer: Thane

All of these love interests could be killed before making it to London, but only Thane would definitely perish. He would either die during the suicide mission in "Mass Effect 2" or during "Mass Effect 3" after his fight with Kai Leng. While suffering a serious wound, it was actually the effects of advanced Kepral's Syndrome that ultimately kept him from recovering. He would die in the hospital before Shepard went to Rannoch.

The DLC "Citadel" for "Mass Effect 3" offered more closure for Thane's storyline.

Answer: Garrus and Tali

Garrus and Tali could be heard talking over the comm system in "Mass Effect 3", sometimes using innuendo, and sometimes becoming frustrated with each other. Eventually, near the end of "Mass Effect 3", Shepard could walk in on them as they are embracing in the main battery. They quickly made excuses and stammered, but Shepard was supportive.

Both turians and quarians used dextro amino acids. This meant that they could eat each other's food, though quarians had to sterilize it first. There was a famous movie in the "Mass Effect" universe called "Fleet and Flotilla", which depicted a romantic relationship between a turian and a quarian, and their obligations to their societies.

Jacob and Miranda worked closely together during "Mass Effect Galaxy" and "Mass Effect 2", but nothing ever happened. Jacob said that something might have, but that it just never took.

In "Mass Effect", either Ashley or Kaidan were sacrificed on Virmire. They never had the opportunity to start a relationship.

Answer: Cortez and Thane

Thane's wife was killed by people trying to hurt him. Usually he used his skills to minimize the suffering of his target and took great pride in his work. When he tracked down those responsible for his wife's death he made sure that their deaths were slow and painful. He later felt ashamed of his actions.

Cortez lost his husband on Ferris Fields during the Collector invasion. He still kept a copy of their last audio recording. Shepard could help Cortez find some closure, and, if Shepard was male, could start a relationship with him.

Answer: Kaidan

Kaidan was originally supposed to be open to both male and female Shepard in "Mass Effect", but this was cut before the final release. Some, but not all, of the male romance dialogue was recorded, and using PC tweaks, the romance option could be added back in.

Kaidan was made a romance option for both male and female Shepard in "Mass Effect 3". Ashley was only an option for male Shepard, and Kasumi and Mordin were never romance options.

Answer: Salarian

The possible human romance options throughout the series were: Ashley, Kaidan, Jack, Jacob, Miranda, Cortez, and Traynor (and Kelly Chambers). Liara was an asari, Garrus was a turian, Tali was a quarian, and Thane was a drell.

Mordin was the only salarian ever in Shepard's crew, and he was not a romance option. Salarians did not have the same sex drive that most species had. Shepard could be confused, and wonder if Mordin was attempting to romance Shepard, but Mordin quickly explained his lack of interest. He said that if was interested, though, that he would choose Shepard.

Answer: No one

In "Mass Effect" Shepard could only start a relationship with Ashley, Kaidan, or Liara. In "Mass Effect 2", Shepard could choose to remain faithful or to start a relationship with Jack, Miranda, Tali, Garrus, Jacob, or Thane. Finally, in "Mass Effect 3", Shepard could choose to rekindle a relationship with any of the previous love interests, or to start a new relationship with Ashley, Kaidan, Liara, Cortez, or Traynor.

Answer: EDI

EDI, the Normandy's AI, was introduced in "Mass Effect 2". At first Joker did not like having her around, but grew to appreciate her. They became especially fond of each other after the Normandy was attack by the Collectors.

In "Mass Effect 3" EDI acquired the body of Dr. Eva Core, and Joker developed stronger feelings. At Shepard's urging the two could start a relationship.
