Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The classes in "Mass Effect" can either be a specialization class or a hybrid with expertise in two of the three skill areas. Which of the following is a hybrid class?

Answer: Vanguard

The Soldier is the combat specialist, the Adept is the biotic specialist, and the Engineer is the tech specialist.

The Vanguard is the biotic/combat hybrid, and excels at dealing large amounts of damage very fast to quickly rid the battlefield of enemies. Vanguards have access to the Shotguns talent, as well as Tactical Armor and Barrier. They are meant to close distances quickly to eliminate foes. They also have access to offensive biotic talents to disable any would-be threats.
2. There is a way for an Adept to acquire the Sniper Rifles talent.

Answer: True

Once you use certain tech or biotic abilities enough times, or when you get enough kills with a certain type of weapon, you will be rewarded with an achievement that will unlock bonus talents. When you create a new character, you get to choose one bonus talent that you do not already have. If you have not unlocked any achievements, then you are not given the option of a bonus talent.

If you make 150 kills with a sniper rifle, you will unlock the Sniper Expert achievement. If you then create a new character that is not a Soldier or an Infiltrator, you will have the option of selecting the Sniper Rifles talent as a bonus talent.
3. Your non-human squad members have unique classes that still fill the roles of specialists and hybrids. Liara is an Asari Scientist. Which playable class does it most resemble?

Answer: Adept

The Asari Scientist, like the Adept, is a biotic specialist, and the two classes share many talents. One telling similarity is that both the Asari Scientist and the Adept have access to the Singularity talent, which is naturally exclusive to biotic specialists (it can be selected as a bonus talent for other classes once you have earned the Singularity Mastery achievement).

The Asari Scientist is like the Adept, except it has access to the First Aid and Electronics talents, and lacks the Pistols and Basic Armor talents.
4. Most squad members can use light armor, and by leveling up certain talents, can use medium armor. A couple can even wear heavy armor once they have leveled up Combat Armor enough. Of the following squad members, who can wear heavy armor?

Answer: Ashley Williams

In order to wear heavy armor, characters have to level up the Combat Armor talent. Soldiers and Krogan Battlemasters are the only classes that have access to Combat Armor.

Ashley Williams is a Soldier, and is identical to the Soldier player class. Wrex can also wear heavy armor.

Because these three characters are the only ones who can wear heavy armor, only human and krogan heavy armor exists; turian and quarian heavy armor do not exist.
5. Every piece of equipment (armors, weapons, omni-tools, and bio-amps) has three attributes associated with it. Which of the following is not an attribute of bio-amps?

Answer: Biotic protection bonus

Bio-amps have three attributes: duration bonus, power bonus, and cooldown bonus. Biotic protection is covered by the armor attribute tech/biotic protection, and can be further increased by leveling up certain talents and by adding certain armor modifications.
6. Leveling up talents unlocks abilities in "Mass Effect". Which ability does leveling up the Assault Rifles talent unlock?

Answer: Overkill

The Assault Rifles talent unlocks the Overkill ability. Carnage is unlocked by leveling up Shotguns, Marksman is unlocked by leveling up Pistols, and Overload is unlocked by leveling up Electronics (a tech talent).

Overkill is only usable when you are using an assault rifle; you cannot use Overkill when using a sniper rifle, shotgun, or pistol. Overkill reduces heat buildup and increases accuracy for a short time so you can unload many rounds into enemies without worrying about overheating or having to take cover to regain your accuracy.
7. Most abilities fall under one of three categories, and the stats of abilities can be affected by equipment, upgrades, and talents. What kind of skill is Stasis?

Answer: Biotic

Stasis is a biotic ability naturally available to a number of classes. Stasis locks an enemy in place with a certain amount of time. The target cannot move, shoot, or use abilities, but cannot be damaged either. Stasis is a good way to temporarily remove strong enemies from a fight while you take out the weaker ones supporting it.

If you choose the Bastion advanced class (available to Adepts and Sentinels) and fully level up the class talent, you will be able to damage enemies while they are in a stasis field.
8. Most of the equipment you will use will have upgrade slots so that you can further customize gear to suit your situation. Which equipment upgrades do not exist?

Answer: Omni-tool upgrades

Each weapon you use will have at least two slots for upgrades. One will be an ammo upgrade, and the other will be a weapon upgrade. Higher level weapons will have an ammo slot and two weapon upgrade slots. All armor in the game will have at least one upgrade slot, and higher level armors can have two.

Ammo upgrades allow the use of special ammunition, such as incendiary rounds, radioactive rounds, and phasic rounds. Weapon upgrades are used to improve weapon stats such as heat generation, damage, and accuracy. Armor upgrades offer increases in shield power, regeneration rate, resistance to toxic effects, and improved cooldown times for abilities.

Omni-tools and bio-amps do not have upgrade slots.
9. Every class naturally has a set of talents associated with it. Which class has natural access to the Hacking talent? Note: All classes can get access to the Hacking talent. One class has natural access to it, while the other five have to select it as a bonus talent at the beginning of the game.

Answer: Engineer

In "Mass Effect" each of the specialization classes has a unique ability that truly sets them apart as masters in their fields.

The Engineer (tech specialist) is the only playable class with natural access to the Hacking talent. This lets the Engineer hack synthetic enemies, disabling their friend/foe recognition software. It will attack anything on the battlefield, including enemies. Non-hacked enemies will also attack their former ally. This can be really useful if you can target an enemy in the middle of a group. It can redirect the attention of your foes, and they may even destroy the hacked enemy, which you still gain experience for.

Leveling up Hacking lowers the cooldown of other tech talents, making it very easy to constantly disable your enemies. Once you have the Master AI Hacking ability, you can take over geth armatures. This is very helpful, especially at places like Therum before entering the mine, where the armature will draw the attention of all weaker units away from you, and even destroy a number of enemies for you.

The Adept (biotic specialist) gets exclusive access to the Singularity talent, which can disable large numbers of enemies for a long time. The Soldier (combat specialist) has exclusive access to Assault Rifles and can wear heavy armor, making him/her the ultimate combat machine.
10. Each talent has twelve levels. Every time the squad levels up, each character gets a certain number of talent points to spend. Most talents unlock abilities that can be used in the field. For example, the Electronics talent unlocks the Overload ability. Continuous leveling of the Electronics talent will upgrade Overload to Advanced Overload, and finally to Master Overload. Which talent grants the Neural Shock ability?

Answer: Medicine

Neural Shock is the ability granted by the Medicine talent (tech), available naturally to the Engineer and Sentinel. It induces a migraine in the target, causing it to fall over in pain and take toxic damage. Neural Shock is great for Engineers who otherwise don't have much to counter organic enemies. It can be particularly useful against charging krogan.

First Air increases the amount of health regained by using Medi-gel. Medicine also decreases the cooldown for Medi-gel. A Medic with full First Aid and Medicine can keep his/her squad alive very easily. The Medic is a specialization class for the Engineer and Sentinel. A Medic is a fully leveled class talent can revive squad members using Medi-gel, which with First Aid and Medicine, can be used more frequently and to better effect that Unity (granted by Spectre Training).

The Warp ability is unlocked by a biotic talent of the same name. and causes damage over time in a target. Damping is unlocked by a tech talent of the same name, and disables an enemy's ability to use biotic and tech attacks for a short period of time.
