Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you wanted to bring along a strong offense in the form of assault rifles, which of the following pairs of squad members would satisfy that requirement?

Answer: Garrus and Wrex

There are three characters that have access to the Assault Rifles talent: Ashley, Garrus, and Wrex. Garrus and Wrex are interesting because their player class counterparts (Infiltrator and Vanguard) do not have access to Assault Rifles. Assault rifles are excellent for short and medium range fights. Wrex and Ashley are well built for being in the middle of the fray and dealing damage, especially when they can also take advantage of shotguns for extremely close range. Garrus, on the other hand, suffers from low defensive capabilities, and doesn't take damage very well, despite being half combat. Getting him to use his sniper rifles and tech talents will generally make keeping him alive much easier, and will make him a more effective squad member.
2. Tali, despite being a tech specialist, has access to the Shotguns talent.

Answer: True

Having Shotguns is an interesting choice because shotguns lend themselves to close-range combat. Usually tech classes like to stay far away from the action where they can use debuffing techniques, and throw damage from afar, while the Soldier (combat specialist) and the Vanguard (biotic/combat hybrid) are the classes that like to get up close with the enemy.

The Engineer and the Quarian Machinist also both suffer from low defensive capabilities, only being able to wear light armor, and relying on shields that regenerate over time. Shotguns can still have their benefits.

In tight locations like the ExoGeni headquarters on Feros, a shotgun's ability to knock back enemies can save characters from sudden attacks or situations that are difficult to run from.
3. Most talents are shared by multiple squad members, so you can mix and match talents for unique experiences. What is the most common talent found in your squad?

Answer: First Aid

Only Wrex does not have access to First Aid. First Aid increases the amount of health regained by each use of Medi-gel. This affects the entire squad, so having some points in First Aid doesn't hurt (quite the opposite). Player classes with access to First Aid are the Soldier, the Infiltrator, the Engineer, and the Sentinel.

The second most common talent is Electronics (providing the Overload ability), which only Wrex and Ashley don't have access to. Fitness is shared by Ashley and Wrex. It increases the maximum health, and provides the Immunity ability, which greatly increases damage protection for a short time. Barrier is shared by Kaidan, Liara, and Wrex (the three characters with biotic strength).

It provides a temporary shield boost. Throw is shared by the same three characters, and sends its target flying backwards.

This can be especially useful when used in low gravity or when used to push enemies off balconies or ledges.
4. The classes in "Mass Effect" can either be a specialization class or a hybrid with expertise in two of the three skill areas. Which character on your squad is a combat specialist (as opposed to a tech or biotic specialist)?

Answer: Ashley

Just like the player classes, each of your six squad members fills a unique role of being either a specialist in one skill area or a hybrid between two. Ashley is a Soldier (combat specialist), and is unique in that her class is identical to the player class. Every other squad member, while filling the same roles of specialists and hybrids, are slightly different from their player class counterparts. Even Kaidan, despite being a Sentinel (a player class), is not entirely the same.

The only difference between Kaidan and the player Sentinel is that level six of the class talent does not grant the Marksman ability. Kaidan fills the biotic/tech hybrid slot, Wrex is a biotic/combat hybrid, and Garrus is your combat/tech hybrid.
5. There are three different armor talents: Combat Armor, Tactical Armor, and Basic Armor. Depending on which talent a character has and how much it has been leveled up, that character can wear light, medium, or heavy armor. Which squad member is the only one who has access to the Basic Armor talent?

Answer: Tali

Basic Armor will increase the effectiveness of light armor, and will improve shield regenerating capabilities, but will not enable a character to wear medium or heavy armor. For the player classes, Basic Armor is available to the Engineer (tech specialist) and the Adept (biotic specialist). Tali (tech specialist) is your only squad member with access to this talent. Liara, despite being a biotic specialist, has no armor talent of any kind. Also interesting is that Garrus (combat/tech hybrid) is your only squad member with Tactical Armor, which allows medium armor. Player classes Infiltrator (combat/tech hybrid) and Vanguard (biotic/combat hybrid) have Tactical Armor, but your biotic/combat squad member is Wrex, who instead has Combat Armor, letting him wear heavy armor.
6. The Intimidate talent increases store discounts, and opens up Renegade dialogue options. Which of your squad members has access to the Intimidate talent?

Answer: None

There are three talents exclusive to Shepard: Charm, Intimidate, and Spectre Training. Charm and Intimidate are used to open up new dialogue options. This makes sense because Shepard is the only one who makes decisions in "Mass Effect". Charm opens dialogue options that coincide with Paragon actions, while Intimidate opens options associated with Renegade choices. Spectre Training provides a wide array of passive improvements, and unlocks the Unity ability, which lets Shepard revive fallen squad mates.
7. If you decided that you really needed to bring someone with Neural Shock, who would you have to bring?

Answer: Kaidan

Neural Shock is granted by the Medicine talent. Of the player classes, the Engineer (tech specialist) and the Sentinel (biotic/tech hybrid) have access to this talent. In your squad, however, only Kaidan (a Sentinel) has the Medicine talent. Tali (your tech specialist) differs from an Engineer in that she forwent Medicine in favor of Shotguns.
8. Even if squad members have no combat strength, they usually still have access to at least one or two weapon talents (Assault Rifles, Pistols, Shotguns, and Sniper Rifles). Which two weapon talents are tied as the most common amongst your six squad members?

Answer: Assault rifles and shotguns

Of the player classes, five have access to Pistols (only the Sentinel doesn't have access), two have access to Shotguns (Soldier and Vanguard), two have access to Sniper Rifles (Infiltrator and Soldier), and only one has access to Assault Rifles (Soldier). For your squad, Ashley has access to all four weapon talents, Garrus has access to Assault Rifles and Sniper Rifles, Wrex has access to Assault Rifles and Shotguns, Tali has access to Pistols and Shotguns, and Kaidan and Liara don't have any available weapon talents.
9. Most talents are shared by at least two squad members, but there are a few that are exclusive to only one. Which talent is exclusive to Ashley?

Answer: None

Compared to the player classes, the Soldier has two of unique talents: Combat Armor and Assault Rifles. However, the squad classes don't follow the player classes, and Ashley is left with no unique talents. Combat Armor was given to Wrex and Assault Training was given to Garrus.

While five of the player classes have the Pistols talent, only two squad classes have access to it. Ash and Tali can both train with pistols. This is not to say that Ash isn't valuable. Quite the opposite. Her talent set allows her to soak up large amounts of damage while also hurting enemies a great deal. Sending her into the fray to draw fire away from your weaker classes can be very helpful.

Other exclusive talents include Tactical Armor (Garrus), Medicine (Kaidan), Singularity (Liara), and Basic Armor and Hacking (Tali).
10. Usually, but not always, omni-tools can only be equipped by characters with tech strength, while bio-amps can only be equipped by characters with biotic strength. Which two squad members can equip both omni-tools and bio-amps?

Answer: Kaidan and Liara

The hallmark of the Sentinels (player class and Kaidan) is that they have access to both biotics and tech abilities, and by extension, the ability to wear both omni-tools and bio-amps. This is the only player class that can do so. Liara (biotic specialist) is halfway between the Adept (biotic specialist) and the Sentinel (biotic/tech hybrid). Like the Adept, she has access to a wide range of biotic abilities, including Singularity. Like the Sentinel, though, she has no armor talent, does not have the Pistols talent, can equip an omni-tool, and has access to a few tech talents. Garrus and Tali can equip omni-tools, but not bio-amps, and Wrex can only equip bio-amps, but not omni-tools. Ashley can equip neither omni-tool nor bio-amp, but makes up for it by being extremely proficient with the weapons and armor she is given.
