Question 1 of 10
1. Skill area balance becomes easier to talk about if we quantify it rather than use ratios. Hybrids (Garrus, Kaidan, and Wrex) have two skill areas with one unit each. Specialists (Ashley, Tali, and Liara) have two units in one skill area.

If Shepard is a Soldier and you want a squad with the maximum combat strength possible, whom MUST you take with you?
Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. In this quiz, quantities will be given in the form of (biotic : combat : tech).

If Shepard is a Sentinel and you want a squad that perfectly balances biotic strength, combat strength, and tech strength (2:2:2), which squad members should you take?
Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. If you don't feel you need any tech strength for a mission, and would like to focus entirely on biotics and combat instead, whom should you NOT take with you? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Is there any way to have a squad focused entirely in one skill area?

Question 5 of 10

Question 6 of 10
6. If Shepard is an Adept and you want twice as much biotic strength as combat strength, which squad should you take? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. If Shepard is an Engineer and you want four times as much tech strength as both combat strength and biotic strength, and you are already bringing along Garrus, which squad member should you also bring?

Using our (biotic : combat : tech) notation, we are looking for a 1:1:4 ratio.
Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. If Shepard is a Vanguard, and you want your squad to have twice the tech strength as biotic strength, which squad members should you take? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. If Shepard is an Infiltrator, which squad would yield a five times the tech power to combat? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. If you are taking along Ash and Wrex, and you have three times the combat strength as biotic strength, what class is Shepard? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Ashley

The maximum strength your squad can have in any one skill area is five. To do this, it is required that Shepard be a specialist, that you bring along the specialist of the same type, and then a hybrid that shares the skill area being maximized.

In the case of combat, Shepard has to be a Soldier (combat specialist), Ashley (combat) has to be brought along, and either Garrus (combat/tech) or Wrex (biotic/combat) has to be chosen.

If Garrus is chosen, then your squad will have a combat to tech ratio of 5:1. With Wrex, it will be a 5:1 combat to biotic ratio.
2. In this quiz, quantities will be given in the form of (biotic : combat : tech). If Shepard is a Sentinel and you want a squad that perfectly balances biotic strength, combat strength, and tech strength (2:2:2), which squad members should you take?

Answer: Garrus and Wrex

The total units your squad will have (in most cases) will be six. In order to have a perfectly balanced squad across all three skill areas, there has to be two units in each area. Sentinels provide one unit in tech strength, and one in biotic strength.

There are two possible squads that will give you a perfect balance (only one of them was given in the answers). The first is to bring the two hybrid squad members that are not the same hybrid as Shepard. In this case, it would be Garrus (combat/tech) and Wrex (biotic/combat).

The second possibility is to take the same hybrid as Shepard (in this case, Kaidan) and to take the specialist that does not share a skill area with Shepard (in this case, Ashley).

With Shepard as a Sentinel (biotic/tech), the incorrect answers were:
Liara (biotic) and Tali (tech) - 3:0:3
Ashley (combat) and Liara (biotic) - 3:2:1
Kaidan (biotic/tech) and Wrex (biotic/combat) - 3:1:2
3. If you don't feel you need any tech strength for a mission, and would like to focus entirely on biotics and combat instead, whom should you NOT take with you?

Answer: Kaidan

There are three squad members with tech strength (two hybrids and a specialist) and three without tech strength (two specialists and a hybrid).

To answer this question you needed to identify which squad member had any amount of tech strength. Kaidan is the biotic/tech hybrid. The other two squad members with tech strength are Tali (tech specialist), and Garrus (combat/tech). For the characters with no tech strength, Liara is the biotic specialist, Ashley is the combat specialist, and Wrex is the biotic/combat hybrid.
4. Is there any way to have a squad focused entirely in one skill area?

Answer: No

You cannot have all six units of a squad in one skill area. This would require that Shepard and two squad members of the same specialist type be selected. There is only one of each specialist type, making pure focus impossible. The closest that can be achieved is five units in one skill area and one in another.
5. If Shepard is an Infiltrator and you want a perfect balance of tech strength and biotic strength, which squad should you NOT take?

Answer: Liara and Kaidan

It is important to remember that the amount of tech strength and biotic strength in a squad can be equal, but that the combat strength can change too.

If Shepard is an Infiltrator (combat/tech), then your squad members have to provide one more biotic point than tech points.

Liara and Kaidan together provide three biotic points and one tech point. Using our (biotic : combat : tech) notation, Shepard, Liara, and Kaidan would give 3:1:2 (unequal biotic and tech).

With Shepard as an Infiltrator (combat/tech), the incorrect answers were:
Ashley (combat) and Wrex (biotic/combat) - 1:4:1 (equal biotic and tech)
Kaidan (biotic/tech) and Wrex (biotic/combat) - 2:2:2 (equal biotic and tech)
Garrus (combat/tech) and Liara (biotic) - 2:2:2 (equal biotic and tech)
6. If Shepard is an Adept and you want twice as much biotic strength as combat strength, which squad should you take?

Answer: Garrus and Tali

Possibilities for this arrangement can have two units of biotic strength to one of tech strength (with three units of combat strength), or four units of biotic strength to two of tech strength.

We will be using our (biotic : combat : tech) notation.

As an Adept (biotic specialist), having Garrus (combat/tech) and Tali (tech specialist) gives us a ratio of 2:1:3 (biotic strength is 2, combat strength is 1, giving us the desired ratio). Another combination that would have worked is Liara (biotic specialist) and Ashley (combat specialist), which would have given us 4:2:0.

With Shepard as an Adept (biotic), the incorrect answers were:
Kaidan (biotic/tech) and Wrex (biotic/combat) - 1:4:1
Tali (tech) and Wrex (biotic/combat) - 1:3:2
Ashley (combat) and Tali (tech) - 2:2:2
7. If Shepard is an Engineer and you want four times as much tech strength as both combat strength and biotic strength, and you are already bringing along Garrus, which squad member should you also bring? Using our (biotic : combat : tech) notation, we are looking for a 1:1:4 ratio.

Answer: Kaidan

Using our (biotic : combat : tech) notation, an Engineer (tech specialist) and Garrus (combat/tech) already gives us 0:1:3. We need to add one unit of tech strength and one unit of biotic strength, which can be satisfied only by bringing along Kaidan (biotic/tech).

Had Garrus not been required, bringing both Wrex and Tali would have yielded the same ratio.

With Shepard as an Engineer (tech), the incorrect answers were:
Liara (biotic) - 2:1:3
Ashley (combat) - 0:3:3
Tali (tech) - 0:1:5
8. If Shepard is a Vanguard, and you want your squad to have twice the tech strength as biotic strength, which squad members should you take?

Answer: Ashley and Tali

We will be using our (biotic : combat : tech) notation.

In order to achieve the desired ratio, we need to have one unit of biotic strength and two units of tech strength (1:3:2), or two units of biotic strength and four units of tech strength (2:0:4).

Ashley (combat) and Tali (tech) with a Vanguard (biotic/combat) gives us 1:3:2, which is one of the possible ratios.

With Shepard as a Vanguard (biotic/combat), the incorrect answers were:
Kaidan (biotic/tech) and Wrex (biotic/combat) - 3:2:1
Kaidan (biotic/tech) and Garrus (combat/tech) - 2:3:1
Liara (biotic) and Garrus (combat/tech) - 3:2:1
9. If Shepard is an Infiltrator, which squad would yield a five times the tech power to combat?

Answer: It cannot be done

The only way you can get five units of any one skill area is if Shepard is a specialist in that area. Because the Infiltrator is a hybrid, this cannot be done.

We will be using our (biotic : combat : tech) notation.

With Shepard as an Infiltrator (combat/tech), the incorrect answers were:
Garrus (combat/tech) and Tali (tech) - 0:2:4
Ashley (combat) and Liara (biotic) - 2:3:1
Kaidan (biotic/tech) and Wrex (biotic/combat) - 2:2:2
10. If you are taking along Ash and Wrex, and you have three times the combat strength as biotic strength, what class is Shepard?

Answer: Engineer

We will be using our (biotic : combat : tech) notation.

The only way that a three to one ratio can be achieved is if your squad has a 1:3:2 balance. Ashley (combat) and Wrex (biotic/combat) together give us 1:3:0, which is already the ratio we want. In order to not upset this ratio, we have to add only tech, which is the Engineer.

The incorrect answers were:
Soldier (combat) - 1:5:0
Vanguard (biotic/combat) - 2:4:0
Sentinel (biotic/tech) - 2:3:1
