Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which group was using Okeer's research to breed an army of krogan?

Answer: Blue Suns

Jedore, the leader of the Blue Suns on Korlus, wanted an army of obedient krogan. Okeer, a krogan scientist, was working to negate the genophage. Okeer used funds supplied by the Blue Suns and in return gave them his defects. The imperfect krogan (by Okeer's standards) were not obedient, however, so the local Blue Suns used them for live ammo training.

After fighting through Blue Suns and crazed krogan, Shepard eventually met Okeer himself. Okeer finally had what he called a perfect specimen, and wished to leave Jedore's employ. Jedore found out, and gassed Okeer's lab. Shepard went to kill Jedore while Okeer stayed to ensure that his perfect lived.

Okeer died, but Shepard was still able to bring back the tank-bred krogan. If activated, the krogan would give himself the name Grunt, and would join Shepard's crew.
2. Which group was giving Tali problems on Haestrom?

Answer: Geth

Tali was on a data-gathering mission on Haestrom with a marine escort. A geth patrol ship saw the quarians and deployed troops.

The geth quickly overwhelmed the marines, and most were killed. Tali barricaded herself in the observatory while the remaining marines held off the geth. Kal'Reegar was the only marine left alive when Shepard reached the observatory. Shepard's choices determined whether or not Kal'Reegar lived or died.

Once all the geth were defeated, Tali met up with Shepard and joined the crew of the Normandy once again.
3. Which mercenary group was protecting Nassana Dantius on Ilium?

Answer: Eclipse

Nassana Dantius and her Eclipse security are encountered on Thane's recruitment mission.

Nassana was a paranoid and vicious asari businesswoman. She tended to outright kill those she didn't feel she could trust, including construction workers building her office tower. In "Mass Effect", it was possible for Shepard to kill Nassana's own sister for her. Her paranoid nature led her to hiring a large number of Eclipse mercenaries for protection.

Thane was a dying drell assassin, and had lost the will to live. He took the mission to kill Nassana Dantius as a final penance, expecting to die to her guards after the job was complete. However, Shepard was also pushing to reach Nassana just to make sure that Thane survived so he could be recruited in the fight against the Collectors.
4. Which mercenary group was causing trouble for Mordin and his clinic on Omega?

Answer: Blood Pack and Blue Suns

Mordin and his clinic were situated in Blue Suns territory on Omega originally, but the Blood Pack changed that when they introduced the Collector virus into ventilation systems. The virus only left humans and vorcha unharmed. The Blue Suns, comprised mostly of humans, turians, and batarians, started losing strength immediately, and the extremely adaptable vorcha moved in.

The Blue Suns had initially tried to pressure Mordin into buying their protection, but Mordin, as a former STG operative, killed the Blue Suns and then augmented his own security with mechs. After the Blood Pack introduced the virus, Mordin created a cure, but was unable to get it to the environmental control, both because of the Blood Pack guarding it and because he had to deal with patients in his clinic.

After Shepard fought through the Blood Pack and reactivated the environmental controls with the cure in it, Mordin joined the crew of the Normandy.
5. Which group was attacking Jacob's father on Aeia?

Answer: Feral Hunters

Jacob's loyalty mission had one of the most convoluted plots of all the missions in "Mass Effect 2". It was also a source of many continuity errors.

Jacob's father, Ronald Taylor, was on a ship, the Hugo Gernsback, that disappeared ten years prior to the events in "Mass Effect 2". Jacob received a message that a distress beacon had been activated by the Hugo Gernsback.

If you chose to gain Jacob's loyalty, then you traveled to Aiea, where the Hugo Gernsback went down. After crash landing, it was found that the distress beacon would take a while to repair. The crew also determined that the local flora caused neurological decay. The officers decided to keep the stores of safe food for themselves so they could rebuild the distress beacon without risking mental decay, while the rest of the crew ate the vegetation in the hopes that they would get better, or get cured after rescue. The beacon was repaired in a year, but instead of being activated, all the officers were killed, with the exception of Ronald Taylor. The entire situation devolved into a primitive society, with a single mentally competent man ruling over the rest of the crew. The men and women were segregated, and the men were cast out. These men became violent, and started to attack Ronald, who used mechs as a defense. The men, dubbed "Feral Hunters", attacked Shepard and Jacob when they saw Jacob's resemblance to his father.

Both Feral Hunters and mechs were fought of Aeia. The geth, Shadow Broker Agents, and gangs were never seen.
6. Which mercenary group was helping clan Weyrloc on Tuchanka?

Answer: Blood Pack

Clan Weyrloc was a rival clan of Urdnot, and was helped by (partially synonymous with) the Blood Pack. Mordin learned that his former student, Maelon, was being held by Weyrloc, and requested to go rescue him.

For Mordin's loyalty mission, Shepard assaulted the Weyrloc base to rescue Maelon. Maelon had worked with Mordin on the genophage alteration project, and it was feared that Weyrloc was forcing him to cure the genophage. Moving through the Weyrloc base, it became obvious that this was the case. Humans had even been used in high-level proof-of-concept tests, while dead krogan were later found. Upon one inspection of a rare female, it was determined that there had been no resistance; that she had willingly subjected herself to the tests.

When Mordin finally found Maelon, he discovered that Maelon had gone to Tuchanka of his own free will. Feeling remorse at what the salarians had done, Maelon had used his knowledge of the genophage to start a cure for it. There were a few important choices to be made at the end of Mordin's loyalty mission, including whether or not Maelon lived and what to do with the cure data so far. It could have been destroyed, saved for later, or used to help the krogan.

Both Mordin's recruitment mission and his loyalty mission involved the Blood Pack.
7. Which mercenary group operated the prison ship Purgatory?

Answer: Blue Suns

Shepard visited the Purgatory during Jack's recruitment mission.

The Purgatory was a prison ship that housed thousands of the galaxy's worst inmates. Security was high, and the prisoners knew that they had nowhere to run if they ever escaped their cells. The Blue Suns would hold onto prisoners for a fee from that prisoner's homeworld. If the homeworld stopped paying, then the prisoner would be released at an unspecified time and place. The Purgatory also sold prisoners to paying customers.

Jack was a particularly valuable inmate, and so dangerous that she had to be kept in cryostasis. The Illusive Man purchased Jack, and sent Shepard to pick her up. When Shepard arrived, Warden Kuril attempted to capture Shepard, rather than release Jack, explaining that Shepard was too valuable to leave.

Shepard fought through security and released Jack, who in turn did some major damage to the ship, opening the cells of many prisoners, and starting a riot. Shepard fought through security and inmates on the damaged ship until eventually killing the Warden himself. Jack then joined Shepard's squad in exchange for access to Cerberus data files.
8. Which group took over a quarian ship in the Migrant Fleet?

Answer: Geth

The Alerei was a quarian ship in the Migrant Fleet that served as a lab ship for Tali's father, Rael'Zorah. Rael was conducting experiments to create better weapons against the geth. He had Tali sending back inert geth pieces to help him in this endeavor. When he got the pieces, he was using them to create new geth units; a crime in quarian culture, and something Tali was not aware of. The geth, like when they first woke-up 300 years before, formed a network large enough that it couldn't be shut down, and violently took over the ship, killing every quarian onboard. A team of marines was sent to take back the ship, but they suffered heavy casualties and turned back.

Tali was accused of sending back live geth parts. While the Admiralty Board was ready to destroy the ship if nothing could be done, they gave Tali the option of attempting to retake the ship. Because the quarians' entire society was on the Migrant Fleet, ships were very important, and always salvaged if possible. Whether Tali took back the ship or died, she would have had the charges of treason removed. It was only once on the Alerei that the truth of Rael's experiments was brought to light.

Both Tali's recruitment mission and her loyalty mission involved the geth.
9. Which group was comprised of mostly vorcha and krogan?

Answer: Blood Pack

Vorcha and krogan were both known to be able to survive harsh environments, have rapid recovery and regeneration, have violent tempers and societies, and tend to not be particularly bright. The krogan were the leaders in the Blood Pack ranks, with the vorcha filling in as durable, but expendable troops. The krogan had higher armor and health, and stronger attacks. Some even had biotic barriers. The vorcha were short, and lightly armored, but had faster health regeneration and came in larger waves, often supporting krogan. They also sometimes came with flamethrowers or missile launchers.

On harder difficulties, both vorcha and krogan have armor. Fire-based attacks do extra damage against armor and prevent enemies from regenerating their health bars. When fighting the Blood Pack, Incendiary Ammo and Incinerate are very useful.
10. Which mercenary group was escorting Miranda's sister, Oriana, back to her father?

Answer: Eclipse

Oriana was Miranda's younger, yet genetically identical sister created by their father. Miranda and Oriana had been engineered from their father's DNA to be "perfect". Miranda resented her father and ran away to Cerberus when she was able to, bringing her baby sister with her. Her sister was given to a family to grow up having a normal life on Illium.

Niket, Miranda's childhood friend, found out that Miranda had taken a child, and arranged for her to be reunited with her father, with the help of the Eclipse mercenaries.
11. Which mercenary group was protecting Fade on the Citadel?

Answer: Blue Suns

Fade and his Blue Suns were encountered on Garrus' loyalty mission. Fade was a shady character on the Citadel who specialized in making people disappear. His real name was Harkin, and he used to be a C-Sec officer, so he knew how to avoid security. Harkin surrounded himself with Blue Suns just to be safe, though.

Shepard and Garrus met up with Fade in the factory district of the Citadel, and fought through a large number of Blue Suns and mechs (including a few YMIR mechs) to get to him.

Garrus needed to talk to Harkin in order to find Sidonis, the turian who had betrayed Garrus, and gotten his team killed on Omega.
12. Which group did Legion want to launch a preemptive strike against?

Answer: Geth

Which group did Legion want to launch a preemptive strike against?

Years before the events in "Mass Effect 2", a geth splinter group formed. They wished to follow the Reaper Sovereign, which they viewed as the pinnacle of synthetic life. These geth were the ones that followed Saren, and were known by the original geth as heretics.

The heretics had a station in deep space, between the stars, away from prying eyes. There they were developing a virus that would infect all the original geth, turning them into heretics. Legion was on a mission to destroy the virus when Shepard first met it.

Once on board the heretic station, Legion explained that there were two options: destroy the heretics, or rewrite the virus to turn the heretics back into normal geth. The choice was Shepard's.
13. Which mercenary group was Samara interrogating on Illium?

Answer: Eclipse

Samara's recruitment mission involved bringing down the Eclipse Sisters and their red sand smuggling operation. The Eclipse Sisters had recently smuggled Samara's target, an Ardat-Yakshi, offworld and Samara needed the name of the ship they used.

The Eclipse Sisters were also the subjects of a police investigation concerning a smuggling operation and the murder of a volus.

The Shadow Broker Agents were only ever encountered in the "Lair of the Shadow Broker" downloadable content.
14. Which mercenary group was performing a salvage operation at the Teltin facility of Pragia?

Answer: Blood Pack

The Teltin facility was a rogue Cerberus facility where Jack was turned into a powerful biotic. Her loyalty mission involved traveling back to Pragia to destroy the facility.

At the facility, Aresh, a former member from the facility, was attempting to restart the project. In exchange for passage and labor, Aresh promised salvage opportunities to the Blood Pack.
15. Which mercenary group was trying to kill the turian Archangel?

Answer: Blood Pack, Blue Suns, and Eclipse

Archangel was actually Garrus Vakarian, the turian squad member from "Mass Effect". He had moved to Omega to fight crime (which there was a lot of) without having to worry about red tape (which there was not a lot of). He set about disturbing the operations of the major gangs of Omega, and even formed a band of followers to help him.

While the gangs of Omega generally worked alone, and sometimes against each other, the common enemy that Garrus presented was enough to get all three to work together to bring him down. By the time Shepard met up with Garrus, he had already lost his entire team, and was in a stronghold on his own, holding off all three mercenary factions.

While there would always be corruption and crime on Omega, Garrus' actions helped take out many of the major players. Omega would become a little safer, if only just for a while.

Both Garrus' recruitment mission and his loyalty mission involved the Blue Suns.
