Red Alert is a group of vigilantes, who took over when X stopped hunting Mavericks. They themselves have ended up going maverick when they are visited by "The Professor". There are nine of them in total, Red being their leader. Axl used to be a member as well.

There are actually four options for characters in this game, if you get all of the armor pieces. You start out with three options, Zero, Axl, and OK. OK just keeps the same team you had in the previous level. You have to unlock X, which is the fourth option on the screen, and then when you get all of the armor pieces, you can select either armored or unarmored X, giving you a total of five selectable options.

Ride armor does actually appear in this game, in Vanishing Gungaroo's stage. In fact, you can take the ride armor into his boss fight, much like with what you can do to Bamboo Pandomonium in "Megaman X8" or Magma Dragoon in "Megaman X5".

Flame Hyenard has created a meme due to how bad his yelling was in this game... He even cuts himself off with his yelling of "BURN! BURN! BURN TO THE GROUND!" Trust me... for this boss fight, turn your volume DOWN. I was going to do a joke here where i was gonna spam "burn burn burn to the ground" for about five lines, but I kinda think that would get old quick...

The central circuit stage is the one with the Ride Chaser sequence. In the stage, you go around a looping track, running into bombs to deactivate them. To be honest, even though its not recommended by most, I find this stage the easiest of all of them to start with due to the fact that there are no bottomless pits and the boss has a semi-easy pattern.

The battleship is the one of those that doesn't have an armor part. The Deep Forest houses the boots upgrade for the Glide Armor, which is what the armor is called in this game. The Lava Factory has your X-Buster upgrade waiting for you. The Cyber Field houses the helmet capsule. The Air Forces has the final armor part waiting for you in it, the Armor/Torso capsule.

Beating all eight mavericks IS one way to unlock X. The other way is to rescue SIXTY-FOUR reploids before you reach the final area. The problem with this is that if you let one die, they are dead for good, you cant start the level over and save them, giving you a limited number of mavericks to unlock X.

Unlike EVERY other "Megaman X" game, which has three or more final stages, this one only has two. The first being an auto-scrolling level with a pretty bad angle and the second being the longest level ever, which has a total of eleven bosses.

Thats right, Red doesn't even get his own level. Instead, he is included as the half way point of the final level, the Crimson Palace. Hes actually the hardest fight in the game for most due to how many bottomless pits there are in the fight. And you can't save the game after you beat him, meaning if you want to fight the final boss again, you have to fight HIM again.

Each stage has sixteen reploids who need rescuing. If you don't get to them in time though, they might be gone forever. This can be very annoying, particularly in the Lava Factory. In total there are a total of 128 reploids that you can rescue, due to there being no reploids in either of the final two areas.
