Miscellaneous Villainy Trivia Quiz

After completing the game for the fourth time, I thought I'd do a matching quiz for the characters of "GTA V" for XBox 360/One. I'll give a small description, and you choose its villain. SPOILER ALERT- info about game missions and ending included.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A Canadian with psychotic tendencies who believed his friend Brad was in prison.

Answer: Trevor Phillips

In the game's opening, Trevor was one of the bank robbers in North Yankton, and he believed he was the only one to escape the police onslaught. He thought one pal to be dead and the other incarcerated. Nine years would pass before he learned the truth. Trevor was my favorite character to play in the game. He was the most morally ambiguous and gave rather vague and amusing hints to his romantic preferences. He had a side mission called Rampages, which were challenging and fun, that used his special ability. Each main playable character had a special ability in "GTA V".

Steven Ogg was the face and voice of Trevor. In an unexpected surprise he showed up in the season six finale of "The Walking Dead".
2. He was not hands on, but was an organizer of crime and hacker of computers. He used a cane when he walked.

Answer: Lester Crest

Voiced by Jay Klaitz, and also visually similar if not exact, Lester was the man behind the men. He organized events in the past, back in North Yankton, and in current times (2013) when Michael got back into the crime game in Los Santos. At one point in the game, Lester arrived to meet his friends in a hospital gown. I believe him doing that depends on certain choices we make in the game, because on my fourth try, he did not do that. He'd explained he was suffering from a "wasting disease", not otherwise specified.

Jay played Hal Underwood in the HBO series "Vinyl" in 2016. He also voiced characters in a "GTA IV" side story called "The Ballad of Gay Tony", and "Red Dead Redemption". These three games have been my favorite video games to play since I was a teenager.
3. Franklin's "homey from back in the day", the second mission of the game featured he and Frank "repossessing" cars for Simeon Yetarian.

Answer: Lamar Davis

Gerald 'Slink' Johnson voiced Lamar, who berated Franklin about abandoning his roots, made inappropriate sexual comments about Frank's Aunt Denise, and gave Frank his dog. He appeared quite a bit a first, and then Franklin kind of forgot about him while he committed larger crimes. Lamar popped up here and there, and even met Trevor and Michael. Lamar got Frank the repo job with a crooked car salesman name Simeon, and that was how Frank met Michael and Jimmy. If Frank chooses the Deathwish option in the final main mission, Lamar helps him out with that job, and commends Frank for taking care of his friends.

Slink played Jesus in the TV series "Black Jesus" on Adult Swim.
4. Franklin felt compelled to help these two old friends, Tonya and ______ , in a towing business, as they suffered from drug addiction.

Answer: JB

We never got to meet JB in the game, but Tonya was a constant source of irritation. She and JB had been friends of Frank's when they were all young, and used that to get him to do JB's job for him, while JB smoked crack or meth. She'd stand in front of the convenience store across from Frank and Denise's house and call out to him, and then later she'd call on the phone and emotionally blackmail him for help. I tried killing her over and over, and she'd always regenerate. Still, shooting her felt satisfying. After the last mission Frank did for her, he was able to buy the towing company, if he had enough money at the time. If not, he could buy it later. Each time I played, I handled Tonya's demands at different times over the game play.

Brianna Colette voiced Tonya, and her real life look was similar to the character as well.
5. Trevor's ultimate traitor, and former best friend, who colluded with the FIB and changed his name.

Answer: Michael De Santa

At the start of the game, he was Michael Townley. He traded his life of crime when he made a deal with an FIB (Federal Investigation Bureau) agent. He went into a simulated witness protection program on the west coast, in the state of San Andreas and became Michael De Santa. He paid the FIB agent a large sum of money every month, and the agent became famous for the take down of notorious criminal Michael Townley. In a bit of irony, Trevor also relocated to San Andreas. He lived in Sandy Shores, which was a couple of hours drive from Los Santos, where Michael lived with his family. Michael was hated by his wife and two kids, for reasons not totally clear, as he'd been living a life of retirement for nine years. We knew he'd cheated on his wife Amanda, but it was possible she'd informed the kids what a murderous criminal he'd once been. Trevor later discovered that his good friend Brad, who'd been shot during the North Yankton escape attempt, was buried in the grave of one Michael Townley.

Ned Luke voiced Michael and more or less looked like him as well. The actors who played Trevor and Franklin looked the most like their video game alter egos.
6. This FIB agent made a deal with Michael Townley in North Yankton, but later used him to commit more crimes in San Andreas.

Answer: Dave Norton

Dave Norton took the fame for his take down of Michael Townley, and then relocated Michael and his family out to San Andreas. He was not a strong willed man, but held Michael's freedom over his head in order to use him. In this game, there are always choices for the playable characters to make, and I was never able to ultimately make the choice to spare the corrupt agents.

Julian Gamble voiced Dave Norton. He also starred on the Netflix series "House of Cards".
7. Older film producer who enlisted help from Michael to save his studio.

Answer: Solomon Richards

Michael loved old movies. He was enamored with Solomon. When Solomon's studio, Richards Majestic Studios, was in jeopardy from Devin Weston and his VP/lawyer Molly Schultz, Michael took action. He chased her down as she headed for the airport with a completed movie. Once at the airport, she met a fantastic death at the hands of a jet engine. Afterward, Michael learned that she did not have the only copy of the movie.

Elizabeth Mason voiced Molly and Joel Rooks voiced Solomon.
8. Arrogant FIB agent, who had his own reality TV series, and who turned on our main characters and his fellow agents.

Answer: Steve Haines

After he betrayed everyone to keep his own dirty dealings quiet (we saw him shoot a fellow agent in the head), Steve ordered Frank to kill Trevor. Then, later, business mogul Devin Weston ordered Frank to kill Michael. So, the game ended with several choices to be made. Frank could kill one or the other, or none of them. I played out all three scenarios myself, saving separately in order to avoid auto saving over my choices. The first time I played, I didn't consider doing anything other than saving Michael and Trevor. Later, I wanted to see how it would work killing each one of them. Whoever lived through the last mission could go on to be playable afterward, just as though their lives of high crimes were over. Having Frank, who was the most normal (and people friendly) of the trio kill his friends, was not satisfying to me at all.

Steve was voiced by Robert Bogue.
9. Chamberlain Hills native, friend to Lamar, petty criminal turned hands on white collar criminal, and he had an eccentric aunt.

Answer: Franklin Clinton

Shawn "Solo" Fonteno voiced Franklin and his appearance was used as well. Frank felt he was not destined to life as a low level gang banger, petty thief, and living with his Aunt Denise. The house belonged to Franklin, via his dead mom, but Denise lived there as well. Not quite midway through the game, Lester told Frank he'd be living in the luxury estate they'd purchased in Vinewood Hills. Franklin met Michael after he repossessed Jimmy De Santa's vehicle for Simeon. Michael was hiding in the backseat and held a gun on Frank. He had Frank drive through the front glass windows of Simeon's car lot, and then beat Simeon. Simeon lived, but no further action came from the character. Later, Michael enlisted Frank's help to save Jimmy, who was hiding inside Michael's boat as it was towed away. Jimmy later admitted he sold the boat out from under his father. Of the Michael/Trevor/Franklin trio, Franklin was the most human character, not at all crazy, and wanting a better life. He'd been recently dumped by his girl Tanisha, who would later come to his Vinewood home and urge him to save Lamar's life.

Fun Fact- comedian J.B. Smoove can be heard as a talk show host on West Coast Radio Talk. Anyone who knows his voice could instantly recognize it.
10. This was Lamar's dog, which he gave to Franklin. The pooch assisted on a couple of missions in solo play.

Answer: Chop

Chop appeared to be a Rottweiler. He was enormous and out of shape, but happy to join in chasing down a couple of criminals, including the surviving O'Neil brothers. If you used the iFruit app on your phone, and logged into Rockstar, you could use the app to train Chop and then his game play behavior would change as well. I could never get logged into my Rockstar account with the app, but was always able to do it playing "Red Dead Redemption". Chop was not the only dog that served on a mission. There was a Ghost Dog, which only Frank could see and understand, that led Frank to the adrenaline junkie Dom. Dom taught Frank how to skydive, and basically be suicidal for fun. I did all of those skydive missions, and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Fun Fact- the identity of the Ghost Dog has been speculated to be a Golden Retriever who died with his family, and that Tracey De Santa had a pictures of the family (and dog) in her bedroom (which I verified could be true during game play). I also noticed that going from XBox 360 to XBox One, I was suddenly seeing house cats all over the place and not as many dogs as I had before. I first noticed all the "meowing" and knew I hadn't heard that in XBox 360. I also wanted to say that I enjoyed Patrick McReary waxing nostalgic about the bank heist with Niko and his brothers in "GTA IV", because that was the hardest mission for me to complete in that game.
