Question 1 of 10
1. A wild Cobalion appeared! However, although it's always nice to spot a legendary type in the wild, it's not the one I'm looking for - instead, I'm looking for one of its contemporaries, a big bull-like creature which is both a Rock and Fighting type. Which Pokemon is this? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Rum-pum-pum, a noisy Pokemon is banging on its drum. This little green monkey is cute but I wish it would pipe down. Still, the noise makes it easy to find. Which starter Pokemon, making its debut in Generation VIII, is this? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. I spy Magmar, gay and bright, with another Fire type Pokemon accompanying it, which looks like an angry chicken. It looks vaguely familiar, and I know it used to be a Torchic, but the name escaped me. Can you remind me which Pokemon Torchic evolves into? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. This piggy Pokemon shouldn't be too hard to find; it likes to bounce everywhere, and it has a spring for a tail. If I tell you that it's a Psychic type, would you be able to tell me which Pokemon this is? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. A cat, a mountain lion, a tiger...actually, that last description sounds closest to the Fire type Pokemon I'm looking for. It's got black stripes and it evolves from Growlithe, and it's one of the original crowd. Can you guess the critter from the clue? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. On Cilla Black's '90s TV show, 'Blind Date', three single contestants would compete to woo a contestant of the opposite sex. Perhaps this Water type Pokemon could have helped them. After all, it does look like a heart! Which pink Pokemon am I talking about? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. With a cheeky little bob, cat-like Pokemon appear everywhere. There's loads of them! I recognise this one immediately, as it's the kind beloved by Team Rocket's terrible two, Jessie and James. It's also a Normal kind. Which feline Pokemon is this? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Look at that Steel Pokemon's wingspan there! It looks like a giant metal bird, and it's a Generation II type. I shouldn't get too close, in case I accidentally cut myself on its wings? Can you guess the Pokemon from the description? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. This kit tends to go missing a lot. It's one of the Eeveelutions, and more specifically, it's black with yellow rings, a Dark type and I had to give it a Moon Shard to get this particular Eeveelution. Can you guess which one it is? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. A wild cat-like Pokemon appeared! Specifically, it's a Normal type and it evolves into Purugly, which is a misleading name as it's quite cute. It's grey and white and has a coiled tail. Which Pokemon could it be? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A wild Cobalion appeared! However, although it's always nice to spot a legendary type in the wild, it's not the one I'm looking for - instead, I'm looking for one of its contemporaries, a big bull-like creature which is both a Rock and Fighting type. Which Pokemon is this?

Answer: Terrakion

Terrakion is a Generation V Pokemon and is a member of the quartet known as the Swords of Justice, which also includes Cobalion, Keldeo and Virizion. They are based on 'The Three Musketeers' by Alexandre Dumas; Terrakion, being the biggest of the group, is Porthos, while Cobalion (being the oldest) is Athos, Virizion is Aramis and Keldeo, the baby of the group, is D'Artagnan.

They fight humans to protect other Pokemon from losing their habitats. Terrakion is a rare kind in that it is both a Rock and Fighting-type Pokemon, a combination you don't see often.
2. Rum-pum-pum, a noisy Pokemon is banging on its drum. This little green monkey is cute but I wish it would pipe down. Still, the noise makes it easy to find. Which starter Pokemon, making its debut in Generation VIII, is this?

Answer: Grookey

Grookey is one of the three starter Pokemon for Generation VIII/'Pokemon Sword and Shield', and is the Grass starter Pokemon; Sobble is the Water starter and Scorbunny the Fire starter. Grookey evolves into Thwackey from Level 16 onwards, and Rillaboom from Level 36 onwards.

It wears a stick in its hair, which it uses as a drumstick to beat on any available surface. It can make plants grow and create energy from sunlight with its fur.
3. I spy Magmar, gay and bright, with another Fire type Pokemon accompanying it, which looks like an angry chicken. It looks vaguely familiar, and I know it used to be a Torchic, but the name escaped me. Can you remind me which Pokemon Torchic evolves into?

Answer: Combusken

Combusken is a Fire and Fighting type Generation III Pokemon, which evolves from Torchic from Level 16 onwards and into Blaziken from Level 36 onwards. Like a fighting cock, it uses its long legs and clawed feet to fight, and gains more of a humanoid appearance as Blaziken. It also has claws on its wings.
4. This piggy Pokemon shouldn't be too hard to find; it likes to bounce everywhere, and it has a spring for a tail. If I tell you that it's a Psychic type, would you be able to tell me which Pokemon this is?

Answer: Spoink

Spoink is a Psychic Pokemon introduced in Generation III, and evolves into Grumpig. It has to bounce in order to stay alive, and bounces even while asleep. The balloon-like pink object on its head is actually a pearl made by Clamperl, which it uses to amplify its psychic abilities. It lives in mountainous areas and eats mushrooms.
5. A cat, a mountain lion, a tiger...actually, that last description sounds closest to the Fire type Pokemon I'm looking for. It's got black stripes and it evolves from Growlithe, and it's one of the original crowd. Can you guess the critter from the clue?

Answer: Arcanine

Arcanine is a Generation I Pokemon which evolves from Growlithe with the help of a Fire Stone. It resembles a cross between a dog and a tiger, and is predominantly male. It has super speed as an ability in earlier games and a fire burning inside its body, and can be found in prairies or volcanoes, although it is not a naturally occurring Pokemon in the wild.
6. On Cilla Black's '90s TV show, 'Blind Date', three single contestants would compete to woo a contestant of the opposite sex. Perhaps this Water type Pokemon could have helped them. After all, it does look like a heart! Which pink Pokemon am I talking about?

Answer: Luvdisc

Luvdisc might look like a Fairy type, but it's actually a Water type and does not evolve from or into any other Pokemon. It is predominantly female and was introduced in Generation III. The pelican-esque Pelipper is one of its predators, probably because of its resemblance to a fish, and it can be found in tropical seas.

It has the ability to fly for short periods if it kisses another member of its species.
7. With a cheeky little bob, cat-like Pokemon appear everywhere. There's loads of them! I recognise this one immediately, as it's the kind beloved by Team Rocket's terrible two, Jessie and James. It's also a Normal kind. Which feline Pokemon is this?

Answer: Meowth

If you're familiar with the Pokemon anime, you'll definitely remember Meowth as being Jessie and James' Pokemon of choice, which often accompanied them when they were up to no good. Meowth is a Generation I Pokemon and is Normal, but has a Dark variant in Alola, which has a more grey/blue colour, while Galarian Meowth is a Steel type.

It evolves into Persian (unless it's the Galarian one, which turns into Perrserker instead). It is attracted to shiny objects and can create coins; Galarian Meowth's coins are particularly hard and black.

It is one of the few Pokemon to have a Gigantamax form, gained in Generation VIII.
8. Look at that Steel Pokemon's wingspan there! It looks like a giant metal bird, and it's a Generation II type. I shouldn't get too close, in case I accidentally cut myself on its wings? Can you guess the Pokemon from the description?

Answer: Skarmory

Skarmory, a large metal bird-like Pokemon, is a Flying and Steel type and cannot be evolved into or from any other Pokemon. Its hollow wings enable it to fly at high speeds. It thrives in harsh conditions, such as thorn bushes, and its feathers are so sharp that they were used as swords in ancient Alola.
9. This kit tends to go missing a lot. It's one of the Eeveelutions, and more specifically, it's black with yellow rings, a Dark type and I had to give it a Moon Shard to get this particular Eeveelution. Can you guess which one it is?

Answer: Umbreon

Eevee, the fox-like Pokemon introduced in Generation II, is unusual in that its evolutions - or Eeveelutions - depend on the objects used to evolve it and/or the conditions in which it is evolved. In the case of Umbreon, it has to be evolved at night using a Moon Shard, away from Moss or Ice Rocks.

The Moon Shard appears in 'Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness' and its counterpart item, the Sun Shard, enables Eevee to evolve into Espeon. Umbreon has yellow rings on its body which glow in the dark, and can also secrete poison.
10. A wild cat-like Pokemon appeared! Specifically, it's a Normal type and it evolves into Purugly, which is a misleading name as it's quite cute. It's grey and white and has a coiled tail. Which Pokemon could it be?

Answer: Glameow

Glameow is a Generation IV Pokemon which resembles a grey-and-white cat with long ears and a coiled tail. At Level 38, it evolves into the chunky Purugly. A predominantly female species, it has hypnotic powers, a fickle temperament and sharp claws, which it will use to scratch its trainer if not fed. It can be found in urban areas.
