"Neverwinter"- Guardian Fighters Galore 2 Quiz

Where would those fragile DPS loadouts be without the Tank? Healers would be put out of business without us around, sponging up every ounce of damage in sight, and doing it in style in "Neverwinter" for the PS4, XBox One, and PC.

Question 1 of 10
1. Guardian Fighters are good, and in some cases great, at a lot of things. However, they are not, contrary to popular belief, good at all things. Which of the following is a criticism that any and all Guardian Fighters face, even if it does not come close to stacking up against their overwhelmingly large list of positive attributes? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. The Guardian Fighter's best set for Tanking is the Iron Vanguard set. Within this set lies an arsenal of Dailies that are not too useful, with the exception of one which is arguably the best Daily in the entire game, and is a must-have for any Guardian Fighter of any kind. What is this Daily? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. The Valhalla's Rebuke three piece set is arguably the best set in the game for Guardian Fighters, with only the Demon Lord's Immortality set truly competing with it for this distinction. What does the Valhalla's Rebuke set do that is so useful for Guardian Fighters? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. While the Valhalla's Rebuke set is good for Tank Guardian Fighters, DPS Guardian Fighters are immensely benefitted by the Demon Lord's Immortality set, to the point where this set is definitely THE set to have. What are the two benefits to having this set that make it so good for this loadout? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Mounts are very important for Guardian Fighters, just as they are for other characters. What Legendary Mount is the best for any Guardian Fighter? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Guardian Fighters often draw comparisons to Oathbound Paladins. While Guardian Fighters definitely Tank and arguably DPS better than OPs, Paladins have access to an arsenal of Healing Powers that Guardian Fighters do not have. Of the following, which is also not something these classes share in common? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. One of the more finicky Powers in the Guardian Fighter's arsenal as far as Encounters go, this Power is an incredible asset to have, but should never be used unless the party has a truly skilled Healer present, as otherwise usage of this Power will backfire very, very badly. What is this Power? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. One of the Guardian Fighter's quickest and easiest ways of generating Threat comes from within a nifty At-Will Power. What Power is this? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. If a Guardian Fighter was wanting to pick a Paragon path designed for straight up Tanking, which path would they be best suited to pick? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. When discussing two piece weapon sets for the Guardian Fighter, the Chultan set is often thought to be the best set for any Guardian Fighter. Given that the Chultan weaponry name brand has finicky naming, it can be tricky to remember what sword is the one needed for Guardian Fighters to complete this set. What is the name of this highly-coveted sword? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Guardian Fighters are good, and in some cases great, at a lot of things. However, they are not, contrary to popular belief, good at all things. Which of the following is a criticism that any and all Guardian Fighters face, even if it does not come close to stacking up against their overwhelmingly large list of positive attributes?

Answer: Guardian Fighters have very poor mobility

The other three options for this question are certainly not true. While true Tank Guardian Fighters are extremely passive, there do exist viable DPS Guardian Fighter builds that are capable of grinding out some serious pain. While they cannot register in Public Queues as DPS loadouts, these types of builds do a great job at one thing: soloing stuff. Whether you want to run through a Campaign's quests quicker, or you're looking to solo something such as a Dungeon or Skirmish, DPS Guardian Fighters are the way to go for this class; they are often essential when soloing stuff such as quests in the Sea of Moving Ice, which would be extremely tedious and bothersome to run through with the passive Tank loadout, or various Epic Dungeons such as the First Magical Gate at Valindra's Tower, which is already hard enough for this class as is, and is essentially impossible for the Tank loadout to overcome. To dispel the one dimensional option, Guardian Fighters are clearly at their best Tanking, but this is far from a one tricky pony class. As mentioned earlier, DPS Guardian Fighters are a potent, albeit somewhat outclassed trick the class has up its sleeve. Outside of that, the Guardian Fighter has various tools at its disposal, such as the ever prominent Into The Fray Power, which can help Buff their party. Finally, Guardian Fighters are certainly not inferior to Oathbound Paladins, as this class definitively Tanks better than they do, and the Vice versa distinction is arguably the case, and would definitely be the case were it not for the Paladin's Heal Powers, which are laughably inferior to that of the Devoted Cleric's.

To address the Guardian Fighter's mobility, it is doomed to be pretty poor as a whole. While a Guardian Fighter could theoretically decide to invest a noticeable sum into their Movement (not recommended!) they will still suffer from poor mobility; they do not possess a Dash in their arsenal of Powers akin to that of the Scourge Warlock or Devoted Cleric. While this may not seem problematic, it definitely is: on Fangbreaker Island in particular, this weakness sticks out like a sore thumb when headed up Hamburger Hill. Being unable to dodge Frost Giant attacks can prove lethal if the Guardian Fighter fails on a Strength save and is knocked Prone by a Bull Charge off one of these Giants, as the inability to get out of the way of their incredibly powerful attacks can lead to an easy death for the Guardian Fighter. Into the Fray and Gladiator's Guile do patch this weakness up somewhat, but the former is only a several second long Buff that wears off quickly, and the latter is never recommended to be used as a Personal, as it prevents the Guardian Fighter from using Shield Talent or Enhanced Mark, both of which are required for any serious Guardian Fighter to be running.

Answer: Fighter's Recovery

The Tank Guardian Fighter's arsenal of Dailies is mostly insignificant outside of Fighter's Recovery. This Power is absolutely game changing, as it allows the Guardian Fighter to essentially be invincible, as long as they aren't Prone or Stunned, for several seconds. During this period, any damage they do is converted into healing for themselves. Combine this with the ability to negate 80% incoming Damage with their shield, and the ability to swing their sword pretty quickly, and it would take an attack that kills the Guardian Fighter in one clean hit to actually threaten them while Fighter's Recovery is active.

This very Power is what makes the Demon Lord's Immorality set a potent and interesting option on even Tanks; while the Tank hardly benefits from the added Damage this set provides, the ability to recharge Fighter's Recovery extremely quickly in Shield is the sole purpose the set should be used, and elevates it from simply worthy of mere consideration to being debatably the best set in the game for the Guardian Fighter.
3. The Valhalla's Rebuke three piece set is arguably the best set in the game for Guardian Fighters, with only the Demon Lord's Immortality set truly competing with it for this distinction. What does the Valhalla's Rebuke set do that is so useful for Guardian Fighters?

Answer: All of these

The Valhalla's Rebuke, a set consisting of the Belt of Valhalla, the Cloak of Valhalla, and the Horn of Valhalla Artifact, is considered to be among the best sets in the game for Guardian Fighters. The set provides enormous defensive benefits mentioned in the options on this question.

The Ghostly Barbarian can provide the Guardian Fighter with backup if they find themselves being overwhelmed by a room, and can give them a period of time to heal themselves or maneuver to a more favorable position to Tank the room.

Answer: Speedier Action Meter recharge and greatly increased Damage output

The Speedier Action Meter recharge is immensely beneficial for being able to repeatedly use a Fighter's Recovery, a Power which benefits both the Tank and DPS loadouts alike. The increased Damage output is what truly makes this set shine on DPS loadouts; enemies in the game at higher levels will always have more HP than the player by nature, which means the 20% boost to the Damage output conveyed by the set based on the difference in HP will consistently be active right until just about the player has killed the enemy.
5. Mounts are very important for Guardian Fighters, just as they are for other characters. What Legendary Mount is the best for any Guardian Fighter?

Answer: None of these

There is no universally best Legendary Mount for a Guardian Fighter; what works for the Tank is completely different from what works for the DPS. For the Tank, however, the definitively best choice is the Swift Golden Lion. The Lion provides insane utility, both personal and for the team; it provides the Tank with a shield upon summoning the Lion that freely absorbs 100% of the player's health in Damage for ten seconds, while granting the rest of the party this benefit and applying everyone with stacks of Radiant Weapon if they managed to have leftover Shield after ten seconds.

In addition, the Tank has a 25% chance to instantly be healed for ten percent of their health upon taking Damage when they have the Lion equipped, a benefit which is also shared amongst the party. For the DPS loadout, however, there are a handful of Legendary Mounts which make sense: the Armored Axe Beak, Black Ice Warhorse/Arcane Whirlwind, Tenser's Disc, and Imperial Rage Drake all make sense depending on how the player has aligned their stats to that point.

Answer: Radiant Powers

Oathbound Paladins practice very much with Radiant Powers, something which Guardian Fighters do not possess. This is a double edged sword for OPs; while this means they typically use Radiant Weapon to hit enemies harder than Guardian Fighters, this is only an advantage if the OP invests in strengthening it, not letting it go to waste, but in doing so, neglecting another potential area of interest. OPs will typically do this by dedicating an entire Companion or Mount slot to something which helps to take advantage of Radiant Weapon, such as the Stalwart Golden Lion Companion, a Companion which conveys no other useful benefit than applying Radiant Weapon and actually hinders the OP's ability to Tank or provide useful support to the party in general, and must never be summoned despite being a Companion which costs well over half a million Astral Diamonds.
7. One of the more finicky Powers in the Guardian Fighter's arsenal as far as Encounters go, this Power is an incredible asset to have, but should never be used unless the party has a truly skilled Healer present, as otherwise usage of this Power will backfire very, very badly. What is this Power?

Answer: Knight's Challenge

Knight's Challenge should only be used in boss battles; it is utterly useless at holding down larger groups of enemies, as it only works on one target. That said, the benefits it conveys can be incredibly useful: it forces the target to only attack the user for a twelve second period (unless itself or the user are killed during this period), during which time, both units deal double damage to one another, and half damage to anything else.

This means the party will be thoroughly protected while Knight's Challenge is active, as any damage they happen to take from the afflicted Boss will be miniscule.

However, the Boss dealing double damage to the user leaves them prone to being overwhelmed, which is where the Healer will need to loan a hand, thoroughly going to work to keep the Tank from being overwhelmed. Proper usage of this Power is tricky, but if it can be done, this maneuver alone can single handedly ensure victory for a party of any kind.
8. One of the Guardian Fighter's quickest and easiest ways of generating Threat comes from within a nifty At-Will Power. What Power is this?

Answer: Stab

The beautiful thing about Stab is that it is automatically installed onto any Guardian Fighter, and can be used simply by going into shield and tapping the R2 button (on the PS4), the R button (on the XBox One) or the button on the PC which has been selected by the player to use the Right handed At-Will Power. What's even cooler about it is that it strikes multiple targets within a 5' line of sight, so it helps the Guardian Fighter greatly to generate proper Threat.
9. If a Guardian Fighter was wanting to pick a Paragon path designed for straight up Tanking, which path would they be best suited to pick?

Answer: Iron Vanguard

The Tactician path works great for Guardian Fighters which want to incorporate more Buffs into their arsenal. However, going down this path will incur a slight penalty to the Guardian Fighter's defensive traits which are lost in not selecting the Iron Vanguard path, which is definitively the best path for Tanks to select. DPS Guardian Fighters are best off selecting the Swordmaster set, as this set provides many useful offensive tools, such as access to the Crescendo Daily Power and the extremely useful Weapon Master's Strike At-Will Power, though the only useful defensive tool it provides is the Fighter's Recovery Daily, which is also provided on the other two paths.

Answer: Wootz Bulta

The Teak weaponry is for Devoted Clerics only, while the Wootz weaponry is for Guardian Fighters. The Bulta is the Sword, while the Januwiyah is the shield. When combined, the Chultan set causes a random stat to increase by a whopping 2000 every ten seconds, with a new stat increase of this kind replacing the old one at the end of the ten second period.
