Of course they have, as if your character had not, there would be no basis with which to actually start playing the game. The lore tells the story of why your ship crashed on the Neverwinter beach; as soon as your character got into the city of Neverwinter, Valindra Shadowmantle executed an incursion against the city.

The first duty the player has will involve defending the outskirts of the town against Valindra's undead minions, including the Harbinger.

The lore reads "Karzov is the second-in-command of the Nashers, the top lieutenant to the faction's true leader, Arlon Bladeshaper." As later lore would indicate, Karzov frequently stayed in touch with Arlon via mail, as Arlon was never able to provide a direct presence in the Blacklake District.

It is seen that Arlon was trying to keep "his masters" pleased. In many ways, these masters are implied to be the trio of Kabal, Nostura and Gyrion who we meet during the River District campaign. However, we never see Arlon during this campaign and he is never mentioned, so it is largely up to open interpretation as to who the people he mentions are.

The Blackdagger brothers, Traven and Malus, have spent a lot of time attempting to gather an army to destroy Neverwinter with. In fact, they've gone so far as to enlist the aid of Kallos Tam, a Red Wizard of Thay, to bolster their forces with undead minions. Of course, Traven and Malus did not actually trust Kallos Tam, and knew that he would try to use the minions against the Blackdaggers to steal their army and riches for himself.

This is why we see Traven, and not Malus, inside the Cragmire Crypts; Traven followed Kallos Tam into the Crypts so he could learn all he could about how to control Kallos' undead minions.

The plan from there was to kill Kallos so that Traven could ensure the undead minions would be used to help, not hinder, the Blackdaggers. Of course, the player killing Kallos and destroying Traven ruins this plan.

While it is heavily implied for a long time that Valindra is the ringleader of the Thayan army, a quick scan over the Thay lore would quickly prove that this is not the case. In fact, Valindra is merely one of numerous "agents" of Szass Tam, who is the ruler of Thay. However, Valindra is very clearly one of Tam's more potent and definitely prominent agents, if nothing else.
5. Lore is more often than not an important tool to have in this game. This is especially prevalent in the Fiery Pit map. What is a key similarity between what you are doing right now and what you will have to do as one of your quests in the Fiery Pit?

Answer: You will take a quiz on the area's lore

Seeing as how Duergars, the Seed of Fire, and Fire Archons don't actually exist, that would immediately render those three options incorrect. Upon initially arriving at the Fiery Pit, Captain Montrose will have you read reports around the camp based off of their scouting endeavors, before she will test your knowledge on what you've read, to ensure that you know what you're doing.

Much like this very quiz, it would be in your best interest to know your lore before taking it.
6. Crenshinibon, also known as the Crystal Shard, is essentially the sole reason Kessell gets as close to conquering the Icewind Dale as he does. Before discovering it, Kessell, as the lore says, was merely an evil mage with little skill. Crenshinibon gave Kessell the power to completely control lesser creatures and humans, in addition to giving him many other high level Psionic powers. Kessell is slain by Drizzt Do'Urden, but is ultimately revived when one of his last followers recovers a shard of Crenshinibon, untouched by Drizzt, and is able to use it to revive Kessell. What's more, Kessell has secured an alliance with Valindra Shadowmantle; Valindra would provide the use of a dracolich for Kessell to mix the shard of Crenshinibon's power with, which would assuredly give him the power he needed to conquer Icewind Dale.

In exchange, Kessell would then use Crenshinibon to help Valindra wipe out Neverwinter. Thankfully, the player is able to reach Kessell and slay him a second time, destroying the shard before the alliance ever comes to fruition.

Given that Malabog himself is a Fomorian, it would stand to reason he ensures that his Fomorian brethren stay with good power. However, curiously enough, many of Malabog's generals are Cyclops, despite the lore clearly stating that Fomorians are highest on this food chain.

However, this curiosity is quenched during the player's visit to the Realm of Malabog, where Fomorians are found giving orders to Cyclops multiple times through the area. It remains questionable as to whether or not a Cyclops General can administer an order to a Fomorian who isn't in leadership, but this isn't clarified in the lore. That said, Redcaps and Trolls are clearly at the bottom of the totem pole here, and the lore directly alludes to them as such when it says "All others, from the Redcaps to the Trolls, are merely servants, entirely subjugated by their Fomorian masters.

These serve as frontline fodder, giving built to the Fomorians' army and infesting the areas under Fomorian control. "

Answer: Mystra

The lore depicts that many scholars believe that Mystra, the Goddess of Magic, was slain by the God Cyric and the Goddess Shar. Beforehand, magic had been bound and contained within Mystra's Weave, a demiplane which had been designed by Mystra to ensure that no magic wielder could become too powerful for her to contain.

However, once she was killed, the Weave was dissolved, exploded, and the magic exploded, which created the Cataclysm. This Cataclysm gave Demons, including Baphomet and Orcus, access into the material plane, but what it also did was create the Spellplague.

However, the lore quickly clarifies that other scholars argue that this cannot be the case, as they argue the Weave would hold up even in Mystra's death. They also argue that Mystra has been killed and reborn before, although the lore also clarifies that Mystra had never actually been slain before this rumored killing.

The lore concludes with the notion that no mortal will ever truly know the definitive origins of the Spellplague, as the Gods themselves have enough trouble determining what this origin is.

While all of these traits are ones that certainly do apply to Valindra, the lore specifically highlights Valindra's powerful anger and hatred as the source of this shard's power. Valindra's anger and hatred are so great that even a small portion of the shard is capable of summoning the hand of Valindra for the player, which will swipe twice at nearby foes before disappearing.

The anger aspect of Valindra is what fuels the hand, but the hatred aspect is what makes it so that, while the player is casting the artifact, they become immune to damage and control effects. All told, the artifact itself is not that amazing, but it provides useful stats and, for Control Wizards, is necessary to complete the Valindra set, a set which allows the class to shine in PVP mode.

The lore questions what Severin has given or agreed to do for Lostmauth, but it is never specifically mentioned what this payment is. While it may seem implied that the gold surrounding Lostmauth in his lair is Severin's payment, but this is quickly disproven by a couple different things. First, Lostmauth is a known gold horder, much like most dragons in fantasy genre stories, and second is that the gold is already there long before Severin even establishes contact with Lostmauth, meaning that Lostmauth already had the gold before even meeting Severin.

Answer: The story of a trick a Crocodile played on a human

The story runs like this. One day, a human male was travelling through the Jungle of Chult before they came upon a Crocodile infested river that blocked their path. Fearing for their life should they try to cross, the human was set to turn back. They were then approached by a Crocodile who inquired as to why the human was there.

When the human told them of their predicament, the Crocodile offered to carry the human through the small body of water in exchange for the human repaying the favor. The human agreed. Upon reaching the end of the river, the Crocodile asked the human to carry them to civilization, pretending to fear for the many humans in Port Nyanzaru.

The human, realizing they had been tricked, still agreed to uphold their promise. They spent many days carrying the Crocodile through the Jungle of Chult, angry at their own stupidity, and swore that crocodiles and humans would never be friends.

This is how the House of the Crocodile was named.

Answer: They must all practice in a different magic from one another

Between all eight Zulkirs, this lore explains why each practices a different from of magic from one another. We do not actually meet all of the Zulkirs, but we ultimately meet four of them and battle three of them in the Dread Ring. The four we meet are Baltreyo, Jawbone, a Zulkir of an unknown name referred to as the Knight Commander, and Rath Modar.

While we do fight Rath Modar during the Trial of Tiamat, here he serves as an informant, of whom the rest of the camp has very little trust in. Baltreyo practices illusionism, Jawbone works with necromancy, and the Knight Commander works on helping Valindra to develop Lorrogauth, the evil dracolich Valindra has tried so hard to raise.
14. Yan-C-Bin is an integral figure during the player's treks in the Spinward Rise and during the Elemental Evil campaign. Though we never meet him, this is supposedly who the Cult of the Howling Hatred worships. Why is this?

Answer: All of these

Yan-C-Bin, as identified in lore, is much more subtle than the other Elemental princes, as prefers to remain unseen. Unlike Gar Shatterkeel and Marlos Urayne, and much like Vanifer, the Cult of the Howling Hatred is not headed by their own prince, but rather, an agent of the prince, in this case, Aerisi Kalisnoth.
15. According to lore, what is the Protector's Law?

Answer: All inflicted with the Spellplague must go to Helm's Hold for treatment or be executed

This very law, while ultimately proving to be necessary, is largely what makes Neverember somewhat unpopular with the people of Neverwinter, and is part of what drives the Nashers to rebel against him. The lore states that Neverember arrived in Neverwinter sixteen years after the Cataclysm, when the city was in ruins following the advent of the Spellplague. Neverember knew that Neverwinter could not survive if its citizens continually lived in fear of the Spellplague, so he chose an unpopular but effective way of severely restricting the effect the Spellplague had on his city, by effectively exiling anyone who happened to become afflicted by it, forcing them to go to Helm's Hold for treatment. Of course, the Spellplague cannot be treated without the intervention of one's God, and because Helm's Hold is a cathedral, Neverember theorized that perhaps such intervention could be found there. Of course, that's only his means of justifying the decision; what he actually does is send Spellplague victims to the Sanatorium in Helm's Hold, where the virus can be contained and the victims can essentially remains for the rest of their lives. We find this out during the Helm's Hold campaign. We also find out that those fortunate few who do survive and regain their strength from the Sanatorium are promptly forced into servitude for the Scar Company at the Chasm, as the effect of the Spellplague remains, and the risk of reintroducing it to Neverwinter cannot be taken.
