Neverwinter Trivia Questions

1. For any DC in the game, there are two loadouts a player should always carry that play dramatically different to one another. One of them is the classic DO, the other is the AC. What do "DO" and "AC" stand for?

From Quiz
"Neverwinter" Devoted Clerics

Answer: Divine Oracle and Anointed Champion

The trademark loadouts of the Devoted Cleric, these loadouts are what make the class arguably the best class in the game, and certainly one of the most sought after. The Divine Oracle offers unrivalled Buffing potential, with amazing goodies such as Forgemaster's Flame and Prophecy of Doom, which can single handedly propel a group that would otherwise fail to successfully finish a dungeon into completing said dungeon with ease. The Divine Oracle also, by nature, packs a fair punch; most of their attacks lower the damage resistance of their enemies, or buff the attacking power of their allies, while also conveniently being attacks which do decent damage themselves. That said, DOs cannot match the firepower of traditional DPSes, but for a support class, they aren't overtly passive. Meanwhile, the AC is extremely passive, by far the most passive class in the game, but they are also of gargantuan importance for any serious party: the Heals they provide are unrivalled, and are completely necessary to complete any Tier 3 Dungeon in the game. Both loadouts tend to sport useful tools such as Astral Shield and Astral Seal, as well.

2. Arguably the most important NPC for beginning players, this prominent military leader of the city of Neverwinter is the man who will primarily administer your quests until you reach level 70. Who is this NPC (non-playable character)?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" for Beginners!

Answer: Sergeant Knox

Sergeant Knox is the one who ultimately welcomes you to Neverwinter in the first place, outfitting you with starter gear and administering your quests. He will also notify you of Archdruid Morningdawn's request to speak with you, which will begin the Elemental Evil campaign, the first campaign to administer important Boons to the player.

3. Which Neverwinter Dragon says the following quote, in a particularly condescending tone of voice? "You are fools for attacking me!"

From Quiz "Neverwinter" for Nerds 2

Answer: Karrandux

After flying away briefly, once you've lowered him to seventy five percent health, Karrandux will utter this quote towards you, almost as if he is trying to hold back a laugh while saying this. Right as he says this line, Karrandux will summon some Drakes to help him in the fight.

4. The twenty day event that draws players from around the world in, welcome to the Simril Winter Festival! What day does Simral start?

From Quiz The 20 Days of Simril!

Answer: December 14

The twenty day event kicks off on the 14th, eleven days before Christmas. At 1 PM, the game's servers briefly shutdown for a five minute maintenance. When they come back up, Twilight Tor's gates will be open, and you may commence the festivities!

5. As you enter the Tower, you'll fittingly come across a number of Orcs, which will progressively be the theme as you go. What Orc is the first Orc you'll come across?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Cloak Tower

Answer: Shopkeeper

This is somewhat of a trick question: the Orc shopkeeper will not attack you, and will instead buy and sell from you like any other shopkeeper would. The shopkeeper's inventory is very basic, like any other normal shopkeeper.

6. As far as this dungeon goes, the sixth and eighth updates this game underwent had significant impact on it. What happened during these updates?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Castle Never

Answer: The dungeon was removed and reinserted, respectively, into the game

The sixth update in the game's history removed Castle Never from the game completely, albeit temporarily. It was reintroduced to the game during the eighth update, about a year after the sixth. The differences were substantial. With the interest of not giving away questions later in the quiz, it is worth noting that the primary differences involve significantly nerfing one of the game's bosses, adding new enemies to the dungeon and decreasing the dungeon's length.

7. Much like other epic dungeons, such as ETOS, the Lair of Lostmauth is not based off of any campaign in the game. However, much like ETOS, the Lair of Lostmauth's geographic location is well known. Where is the Lair of Lostmauth?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Epic Lair of Lostmauth

Answer: The island of Tuern

In this epic dungeon, Severin and the Cult of the Dragon have made it through this island and have entered the dungeon. The description of this dungeon suggests that Severin is attempting to reach Lostmauth to establish an alliance with the mighty dragon.

8. Of what campaign is Malabog's Castle based off of?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Malabog's Castle

Answer: Sharandar

Malabog's Castle is based off of the Sharandar. After listening to the campaign's NPCs complain about evil Fomorian King Malabog for so many missions, here, the players finally has the chance to take the fight to Malabog's Castle. The Epic Dungeon has three bosses, and the enemies in it are from the Sharandar campaign; expect to fight a healthy dosage of Redcaps of all kinds, Trolls and Cyclops.

9. What is the name of the plague that is affecting the city of Neverwinter?

From Quiz Neverwinter Nights

Answer: Wailing Death

Wailing Death first started in "Beggar's Nest" district of Neverwinter from where it spreads like wildfire. Initially attributed to natural causes, it was later discovered that the plague was artifically generated.

10. As part of recovering Lord Neverember's crown early on in a character's life, the player encounters Karzov. Lore collected as you meet him will talk of what he does for the Nashers. What is Karzov's position within this rebel organization?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" Lore

Answer: Second in command

The lore reads "Karzov is the second-in-command of the Nashers, the top lieutenant to the faction's true leader, Arlon Bladeshaper." As later lore would indicate, Karzov frequently stayed in touch with Arlon via mail, as Arlon was never able to provide a direct presence in the Blacklake District. It is seen that Arlon was trying to keep "his masters" pleased. In many ways, these masters are implied to be the trio of Kabal, Nostura and Gyrion who we meet during the River District campaign. However, we never see Arlon during this campaign and he is never mentioned, so it is largely up to open interpretation as to who the people he mentions are.

11. The Spellplague Caverns hold many arduous challenges including three bosses. Who is the first boss?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Spellplague Caverns (Master)

Answer: Kabal the Firesoul

In the cutscene triggered upon entering the dungeon, Nostura will tell Kabal to take on the party in his place of power, at his Caldera. Kabal will agree to do so. After slaying his guards, the party will be teleported to Kabal's Caldera to take him on. You were at Kabal's Caldera at least once in your build up to get the resources necessary to come to this dungeon in the first place. Since this is the case, you will likely remember what to do; the fight is the exact same as when you were here before, with the obvious difference of Kabal and his cronies being much bulkier and hitting harder. That said, there is also one key difference here as well; upon "defeating Kabal", he will heal himself to full health twice, with the third time of defeating him being the end of the fight. Upon defeating Kabal, he is saddened by his defeat, but seems to accept that the end has been brought upon him, as he kneels, wounded and defeated, at the center of his Caldera. Thankfully, Kabal is not very bulky, and a party with a good Tank and good DPS should be able to cut into him fairly easily. However, he hits excruciatingly hard, and because he is temporarily invincible at the start of each time he spawns in the fight, the party must prioritize cutting off his invincibility with the Golem Fireballs and the Cleric must be deadlocked onto the Tank while the party does so. The Tank must still generate Threat against Kabal even if they cannot damage him. Being unable to damage him reduces the Threat the Tank can generate, but there are still ways; packing Enforced Threat and Enhanced Mark helps. Unfortunately, Fighter's Recovery is useless while Kabal is invincible, as the Tank will be unable to make use of it while they cannot hurt Kabal, so bringing Greater Stones of Healing, even with good Cleric support, is a good idea. If you are the Tank and can afford to do so, packing a Battlefield Medic or Lillend companion can also prove helpful.

12. Of all the tools in the DO variant's arsenal, Prophecy of Doom comes in as one of the most unique, albeit one with the deadliest potential. What does Prophecy of Doom do?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" Devoted Clerics

Answer: Significantly lowers the Damage Resistance and Damage dealt on the target and reduces the Cleric's Threat level for eight seconds, before dealing massive damage if the target did not die after eight seconds

Prophecy of Doom is a must have for any serious DO DC. Unfortunately, it has a massive cooldown time and only hits one target, so it is unfortunately difficult to make use of when confronted by multiple enemies. That said, it truly shines against bosses, especially bosses such as Orcus on Castle Never or Hati on Fangbreaker Island, bosses which do not have minions that join them in the fight.

13. As Valindra leads an attack on Neverwinter, there is plenty of chaos as the city tries to defend itself. Meanwhile, an enemy force invades the city, under veil of this chaos, and steals Lord Neverember's crown! Who is this enemy group?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" for Beginners!

Answer: The Nashers

The Nashers, a rebel force bent on overthrowing Neverember, breaks into the city's treasury as they're under attack and steals Neverember's crown. The first questline in the entire game entails the player venturing deep into Nasher territory at the Blacklake District to retrieve the crown.

14. As the most famous and powerful member in the Arcane Brotherhood's history, what kind of wizard is Akar Kessell?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Kessell's Retreat

Answer: Psionic

Akar Kessell does hold control over the Wight soldiers of Icewind Dale. It's easy to understand if this caused you to select the Necromantic option, but there's one key trait that would prove that Kessell is not a Necromancer; he cannot control these Wights with his natural born powers. The Wights are at his command because Kessell has a vast assortment of minions who contribute their powers towards controlling these Wights at his command. This means that it is not Kessell himself directly controlling them. Kessell himself practices the Psionic arts, and this is made very clear during your fight against him. He will utilize his Black Ice based Psionic powers to frequently control and stun players who cannot defend themselves from his attacks. He can blind you, he can throw you a moderate distance, he can lock your body into one place temporarily, and he can drain your character of their willpower and remove a portion of their Action Points. A good character to compare Kessell to would be Cthylar the Illithilich of Castle Never, as Cthylar also practices the Psionic arts.

15. By far, the selling point to attending the Simril Winter Festival would have to be the easy and insanely amazing loot you can get from attending the event. What will the player need to do to obtain some of the event's incredible goodies?

From Quiz The 20 Days of Simril!

Answer: Exchange Gifts of Simral with other players

The extremely simple act of giving each other gifts will improve the quality the player gets from gifts that they themselves open. Every five gifts you give, up to thirty total, will gradually increase the potential of receiving something incredible out of the gifts other players give you. At low gift-giving levels, you can still earn neat treats such as Mass Scrolls of Life and Common Companions. When you reach thirty, your best possible rewards could be the highly sought out three-ringed Lillend Epic Companion, the Apparatus of Kwali Mount, or if you get lucky enough, you could receive the ultimate holiday gift: a Legendary Black Ice Warhorse. Getting to thirty gifts given is easy, as the game gives quests on a daily basis which give you the opportunity to earn two easy gifts, while opening other players' gifts can also occasionally give you gifts that you can give right back.

16. Upon entering the fight, you are told you have fifteen minutes to defeat the final boss. What happens upon the end of fifteen minutes?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Svardborg Assault

Answer: Everyone dies and cannot be revived, forcing the party to start over

Much like the Trial of Tiamat, your party is placed on a timer to defeat Storvald. If you fail to meet this timer, he will trigger the Ring of Winter and promptly use it to annihilate everybody. The icy explosion is absolutely fantastical, to the point where words cannot truly describe how utterly destroyed everyone will be. Thankfully, fifteen minutes is fairly generous, and a good party should be able to easily meet this mark.

17. Talking about bosses, let's address the first one. The famous wizard responsible for unsealing the Cragmire Crpyts, and allowing the Blackdagger Bandits entry into them, this is the wizard you must now slay. What is his name?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Cragmire Crypts

Answer: Kallos Tam & Kallos

Kallos Tam, aided by Spellplague, was able to remove the seal placed upon the Cragmire Crpyts by Neverwinter officials. He is the first boss of the dungeon, and is a fairly straightforward one. Characters with a dash, such as Hunter Rangers or Devoted Clerics, should breeze right past him, as his standard attack is not too imposing, and their dashes can be used to dodge his harder hitting attacks fairly easily. However, it's a different story on the epic version. On the epic version, Kallos Tam attacks faster, hits harder, and can take a lot of hits. Thankfully, there is a very mild amount of aggro involved with this fight, so this is very much doable alone, for both the standard and epic versions.

18. Statistically speaking, what is the difference between the Drudge and the Axe Thrower Orcs?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Cloak Tower

Answer: The Drudge is slightly bulkier, while the Axe Thrower deals more damage

The difference is marginal and usually will not play a significant factor either way, though it is noticable. If you are a level 70 Guardian Fighter using your Tank loadout, upon having your effective level reduced to 12, the Drudge will survive a single Cleave from you, while the Axe Thrower will not.

19. There are two types of enemies you can expect to frequently encounter in this dungeon. What are they?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Castle Never

Answer: Demons and the Dead

The castle, and the area surrounding it, are absolutely swarming with Demons and Undead. For Demons, you can primarily expect to deal with Barlugaras and Shadow Demons, although Zythars, Galbrezus and the occasional Nalfeshnee will also pop up. As for the Dead, you are given a very eerie and harsh notice that you are not the first party to attempt this dungeon, as the majority of what you face will be a horde of Undead Adventurers.

20. Like ETOS, the Lair of Lostmauth has two mini bosses before leading way into the final boss. Who, or what, is the first boss of this dungeon?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Epic Lair of Lostmauth

Answer: Drake Rider

The Drake Rider is a glorified version of the Assassin Drake. As such, all it really is is a bigger, bulkier, and harder hitting version of the Assassin Drake. You should have very little difficulty getting through it.

21. How many different types of enemies will you need to deal with on your way to Valindra? (Note: This does not include bosses along the way.)

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Valindra's Tower

Answer: Twelve

Ultimately, you will need to deal with Thayan Servitors, Dread Protectors, Knights, Conjuring Red Wizards, Evoking Red Wizards, Gelatinous Cubes, a Mimic, Imps, Infernal Portals, Legion Devils, Mirror Images and Wight Soldiers in your race to meet Valindra. The skillsets of these enemies varies greatly, so it is recommended you take a party of equally varying skillsets to compensate. Having said that, these all pose a differing level of threat; Servitors and Imps can be dealt with with little issue, but Infernal Portals, Conjuring Red Wizards and the Gelatinous Cubes can cause lots of problems if they are left undealt with. Knights and Dread Protectors have a lot of health, so the Tank is going to need a hand killing them. The Mimic and Legion Devils hit hard, so you'll want your Tank focusing on taking hits from them once they appear. Your Devoted Cleric will need the Energons that the Conjurers summon eliminated, lest they stand to have their action points get drained, so someone will need to be able to handle those as well.

22. Aside from having an added movement speed of 140% and adding a combat power, what advantage do legendary Mounts have over mounts of lesser quality?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" Sidekick Stories

Answer: They can join the adventurer in battle

Though their contributions are not game-breaking, legendary mounts can contribute to the fight by simply selecting the button you would normally use to ride them while you are in combat. Some of them can have really beneficial effects. For example, the Armored Griffon will, upon being summoned, let out an ear piercing shriek at a small radius of targets, which reduces the damage the afflicted enemies deal by 30% for six seconds. DPS characters such as the Hunter Ranger or Great Weapon Fighter might also find the Beholder Personal Tank to be useful: though it only deals a mere 6,890 damage with its blast, this damage total skyrockets by a whopping 500% if the target enemy's health is lower than the character's Power statistic. As a neat aesthetic addition, if the Beholder Personal Tank happens to kill an enemy, the enemy becomes completely disintegrated, as opposed to falling dead and disappearing from the game.

23. One of the most well paying epic dungeons in the game, what does ETOS stand for?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" for Nerds

Answer: Epic Temple Of Spiders

The Epic Temple Of Spiders is arguably the most profitable epic dungeon to run. Unlike most other epics, the mini bosses in ETOS provide the party each with Seals upon defeating them. The dungeon itself is also bigger and longer than most other epics in the game (with the exceptions being Malabog's Castle and Tomb of the Nine Gods) meaning that there are naturally more opportunities to find rare goods off of a dead enemy.

24. The game "Neverwinter Nights" uses third generation D&D rules; in 3rd Generation rules, a Ranger gets to choose a "favoured enemy" after how many levels?

From Quiz Neverwinter Nights

Answer: Every 5 levels

He gets to choose a "favoured enemy" at character creation and then on, after every 5 levels.

25. After powering through the first boss, the party will find the second boss to be a considerable challenge. Who is the second boss?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Spellplague Caverns (Master)

Answer: Giant Nothic Stone Eye & Stone Eye & Eye

The Giant Nothic Stone Eye is often referred to as the hardest boss in the dungeon. The reason for this is simple; it is extremely easy for the Stone Eye to obliterate the entire party in a few seconds if even one person makes a mistake. While the Stone Eye's standard attacks are hardly threatening, and their growth is manageable, they have one attack that singlehandedly makes them a gruelling challenge; the Stone Eye can daze the entire party with their Gaze attack, which will be followed up by an Area-of-Effect attack which will promptly knock everyone off the battlefield, falling to their doom. If anyone gets stunned by the Gaze, it's over. Avoiding the Gaze can be done at first by simply looking the other direction. Of course, as the fight rages on, it stops being so simple. Around reaching half health, Kavatos Stormeye will come and "help" the player by spawning mirrors around the Stone Eye, with the hopes of forcing the Stone Eye to Daze itself. While this can happen, and if it does, the Stone Eye loses its growth, it also thickens the plot for the party; the Gaze attack now reflects off of mirrors. If a player is facing a mirror that the Gaze reflects into, they're dead. If the player's back is not facing such a mirror, they're dead. At this point, deadlocked attention towards where the Stone Eye uses this attack becomes mandatory. Fast hand-eye coordination will be needed, so that the player does not stare into the wrong mirror. One mistake ends it all, so there is truly no room for error here.

26. For the AC variant, Divine Glow is a regular for most who run this variant. What does Divine Glow do?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" Devoted Clerics

Answer: Applies a Heal-over-Time to a targetted ally and a Damage-over-Time to a targetted enemy

Divine Glow is the perfect "I need to find a button to press" maneuver, as there's no time where using it will ever be a bad thing. The Damage-over-Time is fairly insignificant, but it builds up quickly when meshed with the damage the party is doing to the target. Unfortunately, this move generates a big amount of Threat, so before you attempt to use it, be sure of two things: that there are no enemies behind or near you, or that if there are, it's because the Tank has their attention, and will thus easily out-Threat you.

27. In order to defeat Fulminorax alone at Malabog's Castle, one thing will be required of even the best players. What is this requirement?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Soloing Epic Dungeons

Answer: A hard hitting companion

While all of these things are heavily recommended to bring to this fight, you could theoretically do without Scrolls of Life or Greater Stones of Health (if you're interested in masochism) but it doesn't matter what you bring here if you come without a hard hitting companion. A hard hitting companion is necessary to free you from Valindra's death choke. If Valindra kills you with the death choke, you cannot revive yourself with a Mass Scroll of Life, and will thus be forced to start the fight over. Since you are soloing this fight, a hard hitting companion is compulsory in order to free you from this choke before it kills you. As a Guardian Fighter who soloed this dungeon, I would recommend the Blacksmith for this task, at least for my fellow Guardian Fighters. The Blacksmith definitely hits Valindra hard enough to free a player from the death choke, being able to drive her off in about two or three hits consistently. The Blacksmith has practical applications outside of this one task for Guardian Fighters, providing a useful Active Bonus and being a powerful Striker with which to improve the Guardian Fighter's offensive presence.

28. There is a mechanic that determines how quickly the player may earn boons and complete campaign tasks that is exclusive to itself. What is this mechanic?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" Jungles of Chult Campaign

Answer: The player earns campaign currency at a much faster, more flexible rate

Depending on how many Advancement campaign tasks the player has earned, they have a set amount of Forgotten Totems they're allowed to earn in a week. The maximum amount, achieved through the completion of "Dangers of Chult", "Shrines to Ubtao", and "House of the Crocodile", is 175, with the minimum being 100. Forgotten Totems are the common campaign currency used to unlock EVERYTHING, whether it be a boon, a campaign task, or the Tomb of the Nine Gods dungeon. The other campaigns force the player to do daily quests to earn their respective currencies. However, Jungles of Chult will continually give players quest every minute of the week until they've hit their cap. In theory, the player could take an hour and be done with the campaign for the entire week, while this option does not exist in other campaigns. This offers revolutionary flexibility. Hypothetically, if a player had all day long to game on Monday, was too busy to make it online on Tuesday, but had plenty of time on Wednesday, Jungles of Chult is very forgiving to this type of schedule; the player would not be punished for not making it online on Tuesday under this campaign as they would on all other campaigns. This flexibility was the driving force behind the incredibly positive response the overall game's unity reacted to this campaign with. That, and, the campaign is far less tedious than it's predecessors, especially Storm King's Thunder. If the player hit their Forgotten Totem maximum on a weekly basis, they could unlock Tomb of the Nine Gods and all of the campaign boons within a reasonable two month period. Juxtaposing that to Storm King's Thunder, it can take the average player up to as much as an entire year to unlock all of the campaign's dungeon/skirmishes and boons, in addition to the daily commitment this campaign forces.

29. Transitioning into the second boss, or should I say bosses? Not necessarily a binary opposition, coming across this group will still induce a conflict. What is this group's name?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Cragmire Crypts

Answer: Competing Adventure Party

Five adventurers, by the names of Samulkin Farcaster, Cardiamus Hawklight, Margold Tarmikos, Aluella Shieldheart, and Shaek Trueblood, will do battle with you. The former three serve as "DPS builds", while Aluella acts as a tank and Shaek functions as a Cleric. It is recommended to eliminate the DPS builds, who stand on the left, first; the Tank and Cleric can prove annoying and cumbersome to kill, but they will generally not threaten to kill you too much.

30. Talking about bosses. The first boss of this dungeon is, more or less, a glorified version of the Eye of Grumsh. Who is the first boss?

From Quiz "Neverwinter" - Cloak Tower

Answer: Makred the Foul & Makred

Makred the Foul is the first dungeon boss you will ever face, assuming you go through the dungeons in order like you should. Beyond having more health than the Eye of the Grumsh and being bigger (for an aesthetic difference), there is no difference between Makred and a typical Eye of the Grumsh. However, once he hits half health, a swarm of Battle Tested Orcs, Drudges and Axe Throwers will join the fight, so be on the lookout for them, as they will come from all different directions. Having said that, this fight should prove to be fairly easy, as Makred is very slow, has poor Recovery, and does not really hit very hard.
