Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following poison type Pokemon does NOT have another type?

Answer: Seviper

Spinarak is part bug, Roselia is part grass, and Skuntank is part dark. Pokemon that are only poison type include Ekans, Arbok, Nidoran (male and female), Nidorina, Nidorino, Grimer, Muk, Koffing, Weezing, Gulpin, Swalot, and Seviper.
2. Koga's poison type Pokemon gym gets a new leader after Koga joins the Elite 4 in "Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal". Who becomes the new Fuchsia City gym leader in "Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal"?

Answer: Janine

Janine is Koga's daughter and uses many of the same Pokemon as Koga does, as well as some new ones. Her Pokemon are on a weaker level than Koga's are in the Elite 4 and both Koga and Janine have an Ariados, Venomoth, and Crobat. Karen is the Elite 4 dark user of the Indigo Plateau in "Pokemon Gold/Silver Crystal" and Aaron is the Elite 4 bug type user of "Pokemon Diamond/Pearl".
3. Which of the following poison type Pokemon WILL evolve?

Answer: Golbat

Seviper won't evolve at all, and Arbok and Swalot are already fully evolved. If Golbat is happy enough, it can evolve into Crobat. In "Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green", however, Golbat is not allowed to evolve until you get the national dex.
4. Which of the following is one of Gulpin/Swalot's pokemon abilities?

Answer: Liquid Ooze

Liquid Ooze will cause moves such as Absorb and Drain Punch to cause damage instead of heal the opponent's HP. Gulpin and Swalot's other possible ability, Sticky Hold will prevent items from being taken from them. Other Pokemon with Liquid Ooze include Tentacool and Tenacruel and other Pokemon with Sticky Hold include Grimer and Muk. Poison Point is a move that can poison a foe if they make contact with your Pokemon, Cloud Nine will eliminate all status effects due to weather, and Suction Cups prevents moves like Roar or Whirlwind from working.
5. Which of the following poison Pokemon WILL gain another type after evolving?

Answer: Nidorino

Nidorina and Nidorino will both become part ground type after evolving. Qwilfish, aside from not evolving, will always be water and poison types. Zubat, Golbat and Crobat are all part flying type, and Croagunk and Toxicroak are also part fighting type.
6. Which of the following poison type moves ALWAYS inflicts poison, assuming it hits the target?

Answer: Toxic

While Cross Poison, Poison Fang and Smog may poison the foe, only Toxic is guaranteed to poison a foe if it hits. Pokemon that can learn Toxic include Dustox, Roselia, Swalot, Vespiquen and Skuntank. Bboth poison type and non-poison type Pokemon, can learn Toxic through TM06 (TM06 is Toxic in all main games).
7. Which of the following poison type moves has the strongest attack or special attack strength?

Answer: Gunk Shot

Gunk Shot has a whopping 120 attack power, making it as strong as moves like Megahorn, Thunder, Mega Kick, and Solarbeam! Unfortunately, it only has a 70% accuracy rate. Sludge Bomb has 90 special attack power, Poison Jab has 80 attack power, and Cross Poison has 70 attack power. Pokemon that can learn Gunk Shot include Arbok, Muk, Octillery, and Swalot.
8. Which of the following IS a weakness of poison type Pokemon?

Answer: Psychic

Psychic and ground moves are a poison Pokemon's worst enemy. Poison Pokemon are very effective against grass Pokemon, regularly effective against fire Pokemon, and ineffective against poison Pokemon. Poison moves will not even affect steel Pokemon.
9. In "Pokemon Snap" for the Nintendo 64, which poison type Pokemon is described as being a 'Pokemon sign'?

Answer: Koffing

Roserade, a fourth generation Pokemon, does not even appear in "Pokemon Snap!", which only features first generation Pokemon. Purple smoke that looks suspiciously like Koffing can be photographed at the volcano at the beginning of the Volcano level. Simply throw a pester ball into the volcano and photograph the smoke as it rises. Grimer, Muk, and Koffing all appear in the Cave level, and Weezing is found nowhere in the game. If you use pester balls on all the Koffing in this level, the three Jigglypuff they were chasing will all be singing towards the end of the level, making for a great picture!
10. Which of the following Elite 4 members or Champions DOES NOT use at least one poison or part poison type Pokemon?

Answer: Bruno (Kanto)

Aaron, Sinnoh Elite 4 bug user, uses a Dustox and Drapion, Karen, Johto Elite 4 dark user, uses a Vileplume and Gengar, and Wallace, Hoenn Champion in "Pokemon Emerald" only, uses a Tentacruel. Other Elite 4 members with poison Pokemon include: Sinnoh Champion Cynthia (Roserade), Elite 4 Koga (Ariados, Venomoth, Muk, Crobat), and Elite 4 Agatha (Gengar, Haunter, Arbok).
