Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What's one thing you learn at the beginning of day 5 of this game?

Answer: All female officers will be physically tested the next day

Day 5 is the one day you need to read the bulletin board in the homicide office. You will learn that all female officers will have to attend a mandatory testing on day 6. This is important because it means the woman's locker room will be empty, which means you can snoop around on one particular female officer who you know is quite unethical.

You learned of the Andrew Dent murder on day 4. The other choices happen in other games.
2. If you do the drawing correctly, where does Sonny predict that the fifth and final murder attempt will take place?

Answer: East Palm Street

The pentagram has been a noted symbol all throughout this game. At the beginning of day 5 there have been murder attempts at planned locations. The plan was to have five murders in such a way that the location of the murders can be drawn out like a pentagram on the map. Sonny realizes this now, and decides to go to the location where he predicts the fifth murder will take place to stop it.
3. What happens to the murderer?

Answer: He gets away, but then crashes on the freeway and dies

Sonny's prediction is correct and he encounters Steve Rocklin at the bar. Rocklin shoots at him and runs out the back exit and gets away. Depending on whether or not the player has done what he is supposed to do, Rocklin may or may not have a tracking chip is in car and Sonny and Pat may or may not follow him. Aside from points, it doesn't matter. Either way, he'll crash on the freeway and die. Like "Police Quest 1" attacker #1 is now down about three quarters of the way through the game. Also like "Police Quest 1" the game doesn't end when the guy who Sonny thinks is the main villain dies. This time, we know there's another guy because in the cut scene earlier in the game, two men attacked Marie. Sonny, however, doesn't know that yet.

Sonny can shoot him at the bar, but the game ends if he does because he does not have probable cause as far as the witnesses are concerned. He knows that's probably his man, but the people in the bar do not know that. They know nothing of the other murders. To them, Steve Rocklin is just a regular pool player. They won't know he's bad until he shoots, and then he gets away before you can react. So if you're going to shoot him, you have to do it before he's done anything wrong at the bar, and the witnesses will think you shot a harmless citizen and you will lose.

Pat should kill him because she guards the back exit where he escapes, but she doesn't. Later you learn there's probably a reason she didn't.
4. What else do you learn about Steve Rocklin?

Answer: He has a lot of cocaine

When you find the car crash, you also find cocaine in Rocklin's trunk. Then, for some inexplicable reason, Sonny lets Pat Morales handle the evidence. Bad idea.

The tattoo was on Jason Taselli in the first game. The other two choices allude to someone you meet later in this game.
5. What does Pat Morales have in her locker?

Answer: Cocaine

Unsurprisingly, Pat stole evidence from the car crash for herself. A lot of the Pat Morales quests are optional, but at a minimum, Sonny must discover the cocaine in her locker and he must inform the captain about it and tell him to get Internal Affairs to keep an eye on her. If Sonny doesn't at least do those two things, he will be screwed later in the game.

Contrary to what some people think, the complaint at the beginning of the game, the file in the psychologist's office, and even getting a copy of her key are all optional tasks. You get points for doing all those things but you can still catch Pat if you don't.

In the case of the key, beating the game without getting Pat's key requires some out-of-the-box thinking. What you need to know is Pat's locker combination never changes, so if you've played the game before or seen someone else play it and you remember the combination, you can still break into Pat's locker without ever getting the key to her desk. If you don't know the combination, you can look it up online. There are Let's Plays and Playthroughs of this game. It makes no sense story-wise because it means Sonny made a wildly lucky guess of Pat's combination, but the game allows it.
6. Which of the following is not something you find in the coroner's office?

Answer: A tracking device

The coroner confirms what Sonny hadn't known just yet: the man at the bar/dead body on the highway was in fact Steve Rocklin. He finds several things on him, including a newspaper article with a pentagram carved over Sonny's face, Marie's locket, and a cult book.

The coroner did not take the tracking device from the car, which means the man who owns the tracking device is going to be furious (you'll never see it but you can guess it).
7. What must Sonny do with the locket?

Answer: Give it to Marie after seeing the coroner

Right after Sonny is done with the coroner, he will automatically drive to the hospital. This is his last chance to help Marie wake up. If he doesn't return the locket to her, you will be stuck shortly thereafter.
8. Sonny finds a photo in a burning house. Who is in this photo?

Answer: Jesse and Michael Bains

In the burning house, Sonny finds a pentagram with five candles lit, so he knows this house has something to do with the ritual murders he has been dealing. In there, he also finds a photo of Jesse Bains, his nemesis from the first two games, and Jesse's brother Michael. They are standing in front of a house on Palm Street.
9. What did Michael Bains used to be before his brother died?

Answer: Soldier

Like his brother, Michael was a killer. The difference is, he killed guys from other countries in wars. He was not considered a serial killer like his brother. Once his brother died, he went insane and then became very hostile to everybody. He was discharged from the army and joined this cult.

He sought at revenge against Sonny (as evidenced by the drawing of the pentagram over Sonny's face) and he did the first part of this by attacking Marie. He then planned to get Sonny, but he didn't.
10. How do you get a search warrant to enter the crack house?

Answer: Go to the courthouse and get one

In "Police Quest 2", you could obtain a search warrant by simply radioing for one. In this game however, for some reason you can't do that. You have to go to the courthouse.
11. How do you get a search warrant if you never pulled over the low rider?

Answer: You don't

If you don't pull over the low rider at the beginning of the game, you can't get into the courthouse at the end for a search warrant.

There is also another illogical bug that can occur here. If you don't give the locket to Marie, the game will be stuck in a loop where the judge never stops talking. Mercifully, you don't have to restore too far back if this happens.
12. In the crack house, three people try to gun down Sonny. Who is the last of these three people?

Answer: Pat Morales

Pat Morales has been a terrible cop for this entire game. It turns out she probably was a member of this cult (which would explain why she let Steve Rocklin get away when he ran out the exit she was supposed to be guarding). And so, she was unhappy to see three members of this cult killed and a fourth one taken to jail. Sonny directly killed two of them (the other one died on the freeway after trying to shoot Sonny) and arrested one of them. So Pat wants revenge against Sonny. Whether or not she gets her revenge depends on whether or not Sonny discovered cocaine in her locker and notified the captain to get Internal Affairs involved.
13. Can Marie die in this game?

Answer: No

Trick question. If you never gave her the music box or got her dosage adjusted, then when you get to the hospital at the end of the game, it will cut to Jim Walls saying that she never woke up. She becomes a vegetable. But, being a vegetable is technically not exactly the same thing as being dead, so the correct answer is "no." But you still lose.

A rule of "Police Quest" games is if anything irreversibly bad happens to Marie, that's just as bad as Sonny dying.
14. What happens with Marie after she wakes up?

Answer: She tells Sonny she's pregnant

At the end of this game, Marie has a child. And so, Sonny, Marie, and their child live happily ever after (there are no more "Police Quest" games involving these people).
15. Who co-designed this game with Jim Walls?

Answer: Jane Jensen

Jane Jensen, the co-designer of "King's Quest 6" and THE designer of the "Gabriel Knight" series, worked on this game with Jim Walls. This makes it quite ironic that "Police Quest 3" is one of the most cruel Sierra games ever, with many cruel things including a bad driving system and the aforementioned low rider-courthouse thing. Jane Jensen isn't known for her cruelty. "King's Quest 6" is far nicer than its predecessors (more logical puzzles and more hints) and the "Gabriel Knight" games are devoid of any real cruelty as far as I know.
