Quest For Glory: Shadows of Darkness Quiz

Answer: Halloween

Originally, there were supposed to be four "Quest For Glory" games are supposed to take part in each of the different seasons of the year. Eventually they added in a fifth game, so one season must represent two different games. "Quest For Glory 4" is a game based on Halloween. It's got vampires, jack-o-lanterns, wraiths, darkness, lot's of Halloween things.

Coincidentally, I started playing this game on Halloween, not even knowing it was a Halloween game. It was quite cool when I found out.

Answer: John Rhys-Davies

John Rhys-Davies is my all-time favorite video game narrator. He does an absolutely AMAZING job in this game.

Gary Owens is the "Space Quest" narrator. John Bell is AGD Interactive's narrator for their "King's Quest" remakes. Neil Ross is the "Leisure Suit Larry" narrator. They're all great narrators but none of them can hold a candle to John Rhys-Davies.

Answer: In a cave

This is the only "Quest For Glory" game where you don't start in town. In fact you have to wander through much danger before you get to the town. This makes it all the more strange that the hero's theme plays once you leave town the first time. Even more strange is that the only other games where you hear the hero's theme upon first leaving town are both versions of "Quest For Glory 1" and AGD Interactive's remake of "Quest For Glory 2." You don't hear it in the original "Quest For Glory 2," "Quest For Glory 3," or "Quest For Glory 5" even though it would make far more sense to hear it in those games.

You start in the cave because the cave interfered with someone's attempt to summon you to town.

Answer: Badders

If you're a fighter or paladin, some badders attack you the minute you try to go south from the second screen. You better have picked up a sword of some kind before you fight them. Although you can fight as many badders in the game is you want, this is the only time the narrator will say something once you defeat them.

Answer: The last Borgov of Mordavia

If this were "King's Quest," you could probably just fall to your death. But there are very few deaths like that in the "Quest For Glory" series. A the beginning of this game, if you get too close to the chasm, a tentacle pops out and snatches you. As the game progresses you'll learn about the Borgovs of Mordavia and people will say no one knows what happened to the last Borgov.

At the end of the game you learn that this tentacle monster in the cave is the last Borgov.

Answer: Katrina

The first character you meet in this game is Katrina. What is this innocent peasant woman doing right outside of a dangerous cave at night? You'll find out soon enough.

Answer: Dark Valley

It's an interesting name, because the name makes sense while you are there, but it made significantly less sense when the town was founded and will make significantly less sense once you leave. It didn't become a dark valley until a cult came into the valley and tried to summon a dark being into the valley.

Answer: Dmitri Ivanov

"Burgomeister" means "mayor" or "sheriff." In this game he is usually simply referred to as the Burgomeister, but his real name is Dmitri Ivanov. Piotyr is his grandfather.

Answer: Igor

Igor is a hunchback gravedigger. He refers to himself in the third-person. He is dead serious about his work. Get it? DEAD serious? Ha, ha, a little graveyard humor there.

Answer: The Monastery

The monastery was built by a cult who worshipped a dark being. The building was built before Erana's Staff was placed in the center of town to protect it, so Erana's staff does not protect anyone from the door to the monastery or in the monastery. Both Olga and Igor imply that there have been many adventurers killed by the monastery door.

Other places that are not protected by Erana's staff are Nikolai's house (you can throw a dagger at him if you break into his house while he's still alive) and the area in front of the Burgomeister's house, the store, and the inn. There's an event that can happen on that screen that will kill everybody in town.

Answer: Two

There isn't much use for money in this game. In fact, if you search all the bodies in the cave, you're likely to start with all the money you'll ever need in this game. The only places you can use it are the general store and the inn. The amount of money you need to spend at the inn is negligible. At the store, the only thing you'll ever need to buy more than one of is rations.

Answer: Weapons

You have to find weapons in this game. You can find some in the dark one's cave, one in the adventurer's guild, and depending on your character class you might be able to find one in the boss wraith mound.

Answer: Potions

This is the one "Quest For Glory" game where you can't buy potions. You can get one free healing potion and one free poison cure potion every day from Dr. Cranium and you can find some other healing potions elsewhere.

Answer: Yuri and Bella

Yuri is an old sexist man. Bella is the cook. She's called Bella because it one time she was quite beautiful. Losing her only child really aged her. Still, while she may have lost her physical beauty, she still has arguably the most beautiful personality in town as she always has been kind and respectful to some characters that others hate.

Answer: Antwerp

In "Quest For Glory 1," the hero met an adult Antwerp. He attacked it with his sword. It avoided his sword at first and leaped very high. When the hero went to the next screen the Antwerp tried to kill him. The hero stuck is sword in the air and stabbed the Antwerp, created tons of baby Antwerps. Dr. Cranium visited Spielburg shortly after the hero left and got those baby Antwerps.

They are now in his lab. The hero must trap one and guide at through a maze to get the key to Dr. Cranium's lab.
