Level 2 is actually the only level where you gain a mere one skill point. Fortunately, its only a warm-up and you progressively gain more per level as your level rises.

It takes 300 experience to gain your first level, which you will get in less than five minutes. Of course, if you had a certain potion active, you would only need to kill 200 experience worth of monsters to grow a level, but you would still gain 300 experience.

You only get one attribute point per level. Seems cheap, but you also gain a percentage for each stat.

This system differs from the classic "five point" method, where you gain five attribute points, but no percentages, which actually makes for a less powerful character, as well as a potential headache trying to comtemplate how to distribute them. With this method, you still have some influence over their growth, instead of being completely set, but you dont have to figure out how to properly arrange you attribute points since you only have one. Don't get me wrong, distribution is important, but you only have one to worry about, not five. Also, your maximum stat potential is much higher than it would be if you have five attribute points instead of one and a percentage boost.

At level 3, you get your third skill, level 6 is fourth skill, level 12 is fifth skill, level 20 is sixth skill, level 30 is seventh skill, and level 50 is eighth skill. After level 50, you'll gain more stat points, but no new skills.

It seems to multiply experience by about 1.5x for a short while, and is one of my best friends, next to the good ol' healing potion. In fact, if you ALWAYS had one activated (which is pretty much impossible), it would cut your training time by 33.3%!

When you beat the game on bronze, you are around level 40, so the monsters adjust. They could be at the others, but its EXETREMELY unlikely- you would have to not beat the game on bronze, but transfer your character early instead.
