Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Humba Wumba

Answer: Banjo-Tooie

'Banjo-Tooie' came out in 2000 for the Nintendo 64 as a sequel to 'Banjo-Kazooie' from 1998.

Humba Wumba is a female shaman, who is the person who casts the spells which transform the two main characters, Banjo and Tooie, into different creatures, each with different skills. Although she doesn't appear in 'Banjo-Kazooie', her future appearance is foreshadowed when her name is mentioned.

Her appearance is that of a Native American and she is depicted living in a wigwam. Among the transformations she can cause are changing characters into a dragon, a submarine, a snowball and even a washing machine, each with different attributes which are needed to progress in the game.
2. Lan Hikari

Answer: Mega Man Battle Networks

The first game in what became a series came out in 2001 for the GameBoy Advance with later version being available on the Nintendo DS, Wii and on personal computers.

The game involves a character named Lan Hikari and his scientist father, Dr. Yuichiro Hikari, with other family members being introduced in later games. This role playing game is set in a virtual world, called the Net, with the player controlling Lan and solving crimes..
3. Michael de Santa

Answer: Grand Theft Auto V

Dating from 2013, 'Grand Theft Auto V' is just one of the games in the long-running series. Michael de Santa is the assumed name of Michael Townley, who has been declared dead since 2004. He is forced back into a life of crime as one of the three main characters in the game - the other two are Franklin Clinton and Trevor Philips.

Many people die during the course of the game, with Michael responsible for the demise of several of them.
4. Willow

Answer: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Based on the television series of the same name, the first video game in a series was issued in 2000 by GameBrains for Nintendo's Game Boy Color. As expected, the game involves hunting down vampires in different locations, with Buffy Summers being the main character.

Willow Rosenberg is one of Buffy's inner circle and appears in both the television and video game series. Other later games based on the show appeared for different game consoles.
5. Toan

Answer: Dark Cloud

'Dark Cloud' is a single player game developed for the PlayStation 2 and published in 2000 or 2001, depending on where players were located. Toan is the hero who has to work his way through dungeons, fighting monsters and gathering items to defeat the Dark Genie, the villain of the game.

7. Sinder

Answer: Cel Damage

First published in the USA by Electronic Arts in 2001 for the Xbox, and then in Europe the following year and including a GameCube version, the game was a 'demolition derby' involving cartoon characters. 8. Solid Snake

Answer: Metal Gear

The first in what became a long-running series, 'Metal Gear' appeared in 1987 and was available on several game systems. The game involves the character Solid Snake who is a new recruit to an organisation called FOXHOUND. Solid Snake's real name is the rather more prosaic David, and he is also known as Old Snake. The character appears in many of the early games in the franchise.
9. Nikolai Diavolo

Answer: 007: Everything or Nothing

This 2004 game was based on the James Bond franchise and was published by Electronic Arts.

Willem Dafoe voices Nikilai Diavolo, a villainous KGB agent, whose appearance is also modelled on the actor. Pierce Brosnan voices and lends his face to James Bond, while John Cleese and Dame Judi Dench provide the voices and appearances of Q and M respectively.
10. Bilbo Baggins

Answer: The Hobbit

Dating from 2003, 'The Hobbit' is based on the novel by J R R Tolkien and developed by Inevitable Entertainment. It was available on Microsoft Windows, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Xbox and PlayStation 2.

The game is a platform version of the story, with the player controlling Bilbo Baggins as he and his company of dwarfs help to defeat Smaug the dragon, who is guarding treasure. It also includes the story of how Bilbo obtains the ring from Gollum, with all these elements being part of the later 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy in both literary and computer game format. The games based on the films were developed by Electronic Arts, who held the rights to create video games using the movie versions.
