Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Gamecube's "Super Mario Sunshine" was an immediate hit. Which of these was not a world where Mario could capture Shine Sprites?

Answer: Rialto Bay

Armed with the FLUDD system, Mario returns to clean up the muck on Isle Delfino in this Gamecube game. Bowser Jr. uses a magic staff to turn into a character that looks like Mario, and Mario is sent to court because of the recent vandalism. Along the way he has to stop the 'Shadow Mario', collect Shine Sprites, and defeat Bowser to clear his name.

The game also allows you to ride Yoshis and visit exotic worlds.
2. What "Legend of Zelda" game is often seen with the initials 'DX'?

Answer: Link's Awakening

"Link's Awakening" was the first "Legend of Zelda" title for the Game Boy handheld systems. Due to the fact that it was originally released without colour, Nintendo re-released it for the Game Boy Color with the 'DX' initials. This new version added a secret stage and fixed small glitches in the earlier game.

The game also makes use of the Game Boy Printer. The initials 'DX' stand for 'Deluxe', and many other Game Boy titles include the same initials.
3. In the sixth generation game "Enter the Matrix", one of the playable characters is Niobe. Who is the other?

Answer: Ghost

"Enter the Matrix" was quite an odd game. At the time it was created, it was the most expensive game ever produced. It allowed the player to choose their character, then complete specialized missions occurring during the events of "The Matrix Reloaded", the second film in the trilogy. On all versions of the game, many full scenes (from the movies and made especially for the game) are shown with new stunts and graphics.

A PC title called "The Matrix Online" was later released due to the success of this game.
4. EA Games was one of the companies responsible for "The Sims". Which of these is not another game series from the company?

Answer: Prince of Persia

"Prince of Persia" is an Ubisoft title, while the rest of the series listed are all from Electronic Arts (EA). Founded in 1982, EA Games began on the Atari, and progressed to be one of the most popular gaming companies ever. Along with their famous 'EA Sports' division which makes the top football and hockey games every year, EA has made games such as "007: Everything or Nothing", "Black and White", and games from the "Harry Potter" series.
5. Which of these is not a world visited in the first "Kingdom Hearts" game?

Answer: Pride Lands

"Kingdom Hearts" is on nearly every Playstation 2 RPG-owner's lists. The game is one part Disney and one part "Final Fantasy". When these two are combined, the end result is a great RPG which takes players through many Disney settings to meet famous characters such as Captain Jack Sparrow, Belle and the Beast, and Jack Skellington. You play as Sora (or Roxas at points in the sequel), and with the help of Goofy, Donald, and whatever other party members you have you can save the worlds from the evil Heartless.

The sequel, "Kingdom Hearts 2", was one of the most popular titles released on the PS2, and although Pride Lands (from "The Lion King") isn't in the first "Kingdom Hearts", it's in the second.
6. "Galaga" is a sequel to what other arcade game?

Answer: Galaxian

"Galaxian" is a lot like "Space Invaders", and back when the arcade game was getting popular, "Galaxian" improved on the idea. Although the player could shoot the enemies, enemies would occasionally dive bomb the player character. "Galaxian" was also the first arcade game to be made in colour.
"Galaga" made more changes to this. Now, two players could oppose the evil space bugs, and realistic sound effects could be heard by players to enhance the experience. Both games were produced by Namco, and they have also been owned by Midway.
7. "Rollercoaster Tycoon", the popular theme park simulation game, has been released various times and has included many expansions. Which of these has not been an expansion for any of the "Rollercoaster Tycoon" titles?

Answer: Loop-de-Loop

The first "Rollercoaster Tycoon" was a sleeper hit, but it became highly acclaimed and widely-known over time. The premise was simple: build and manage an amusement park. You control the cash, rides, terrain- everything. The first game included the "Corkscrew Follies" and "Loopy Landscapes" expansions.
"Rollercoaster Tycoon 2" introduced a new sponser: Six Flags. Players could now create Six Flags amusement parks and use rides from the various real parks. New items and rides were introduced in this game as well as the expansions "Wacky Worlds" and "Time Twister". The graphics of the game didn't change much, but it was accepted by eager fans.
"Rollercoaster Tycoon 3" changed the game drastically. Finally, Atari put the game in a new 3D style, but to do this the original creator, Chris Sawyer, had to step back. Although the end product looked good, it lacked a wide selection of rides and new features. This game was released with the "Soaked!" and "Wild!" expansions.
In a time where tycoon games were popular, these topped the lists.
8. Which of these characters has not been playable in a "Resident Evil" game?

Answer: Forest Speyer

Forest Speyer was killed in "Resident Evil 1", where the player can be Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine. Billy Coen is playable along with Rebecca Chambers in "Resident Evil 0". In fact, both characters can help each other in this game, and you have the ability to switch between them at any given time. Carlos Oliveira is known for his role in "Resident Evil 3" where Jill Valentine is forced to defeat Nemesis.

Many characters in these games weave their way in and out of games. For example, Leon Kennedy was in "Resident Evil 2" and "Resident Evil 4".
9. Which of these gaming series stars Samus Aran?

Answer: Metroid

Since the NES, Samus Aran has been travelling from planet to planet defeating the evils that reside there. However, many players were wondering what was under Samus' helmet. It turned out that Nintendo ahd planned Samus to be a female character, and this shocked gamers (the majority of which are male). "Metroid Prime" as the 2003 game of the year for the Nintendo Gamecube, and sequels followed it on the Gamecube, Wii, and DS. Samus is also a character in the "Super Smash Bros. Series".
10. What is the name of the online game that features towns such as Lumbridge and Varrock?

Answer: Runescape

"Runescape" was one of the most popular online games of the new millennium, and although the majority of features are only for paying members, there are hundreds of thousands of free-to-play members who advance in the game. Despite primary graphics, many players are addicted to the game which is much like "Diablo", "Guild Wars" or "Baldur's Gate" in the sense that it involves numerous towns, communities, and quests. Players can also upgrade and buy weapons, increase skills, and earn cash.
