Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the first and cheapest Night Elf unit (made at the Ancient of War)?

Answer: Archer

Archers were the base unit for the Night Elves, similar to the Footmen of the Humans, Grunts of the Orcs, and Ghouls of the Undead. The Archer was the only base military unit with a ranged attack. They generally did less damage and had less health than their counterparts, but they could be used to kite enemies, attack from ledges that could not be reached, and could even turn invisible at night.

The Druid of the Talon was one of the Night Elves' spellcasters. The Ballista was the Night Elves' siege unit in "The Reign of Chaos". It was replaced by the Glaive Thrower in "The Frozen Throne".
2. What ancient artifact did Illidan use to gain his demonic form and defeat the Dreadlord Tichondrius?

Answer: Skull of Gul'dan

Tyrande freed Illidan to help the Night Elves fight off the Burning Legion once again. Illidan was still a very capable fighter, but sought the power of Gul'dan to further enhance himself. He drank from the skull of Gul'dan and embraced demonic power, which he then used to kill the Burning Legion forces invading his land. When Tyrande and Furion found Illidan in his new form, they were horrified and banished him.

Gul'Dan was the Orc who betrayed his people for personal power. It was because of Gul'dan that the Orcs were able to be enslaved by the Burning Legion and sent to Azeroth to fight the humans in the first war.

Frostmourne was the sword that Arthas found in Northrend. It corrupted him, bending him to the will of the Lich King, and turned him into a Death Knight.

The Horn of Cenarius was the horn that Tyrande used to wake her companion, Furion, from the Emerald Dream. Cenarius was a demi-god that Grom killed when under the influence of the Burning Legion.

Sargeras was a titan and the creator of the Burning Legion. He was defeated in combat thousands of years ago, and his mortal avatar was placed in a tomb. In the tomb was the artifact the Eye of Sargeras, which Illidan sought out in "Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne" expansion.
3. Which Night Elf unit rode a panther and threw a glaive that could bounce and hit multiple enemies?

Answer: Huntress

Huntresses were very useful units for the Night Elves. They were stronger than Archers, and their attacks could bounce between enemies for reduced damage, making them excellent for destroying large groups of weaker enemies. They could also hide at night, and could set up Owls on trees that provided sight over an area (and could even see invisible units). Despite being ranged, they could not attack air units.

Druids of the Claw were one of the Night Elves' spellcasters. They could heal units and transform into durable and damaging bears. Dryads were excellent Night Elf units that hurled poison-tipped spears. They were also immune to magic, and could cast Abolish Magic that would remove negative buffs on friendly units, positive buffs on enemy units, and would deal damage to summoned units.
4. Many of the Night Elves' buildings were animated trees called Ancients. Ancients could even uproot and walk around to make relocating a base easier. What special ability did Ancients have that let them regain their health?

Answer: Eat Tree

Night Elves were the only race that could relocate their base easily. When a goldmine ran dry, they could uproot their Tree of Life and move to a new mine. They could also easily move Ancient Protectors (the Night Elves' defense tower) to defend different areas as needed. The ancients could become damaged, like any building, but they could heal themselves by eating trees. This ability could even be used to carve narrow passages through dense forests to create hidings spots or new attack/escape routs.

Starfall was the ultimate ability of the Priestess of the Moon, which would call down damaging projectiles on any enemy nearby. Force of Nature was a Keeper of the Grove ability that turned a cluster of trees into Treants to fight for them for a short time. Tranquility was the Keeper of the Grove's ultimate ability, which provided rapid healing for nearby friendly units.
5. Did Furion Stormrage agree with Tyrande Whisperwind that his brother, Illidan, should be freed to help them fight the Burning Legion?

Answer: No

Tyrande first encountered the Burning Legion 10 000 years before "Warcraft III", when the world was all one continent called Kalimdor. In order to remain free, Tyrande, Furion, and Illidan had to give up their use of magic. Illidan was addicted, though, and envious of his brother's relationship with Tyrande. He informed the demons about his brother's impending attack.

The Well of Eternity, which was the source of the magic users' power, was destroyed in the war, and became the Maelstrom. Illidan tried to create a new well to feed his addiction, on Mount Hyjal. To keep his people safe, Furion imprisoned his brother under the mountain.

During the Burning Legion's return, Furion and Tyrande ventured into the Barrow Deeps to wake the Druids of the Claw that were resting there. They came upon Illidan's prison, which they had forgotten about. Tyrande thought that Illidan would be able to help them against the Burning Legion, but Furion was against it, still thinking his brother too dangerous to be worth the risk. Tyrande insisted, so while Furion was awaking the druids, she broke into the prison to free Illidan.
6. What colour was a Night Elves' skin?

Answer: Violet

Night Elves were known for having skin hues that ranged from blue to purple. Regular Orcs had green skin, and Chaos Orcs (Orcs under the influence of the Burning Legion) had bright red skin. Undead units and corrupted humans often had a malnourished grey tint.
7. Who traveled to Kalimdor and helped Illidan acquire his demonic powers?

Answer: Arthas

Arthas worked with Kel'Thuzad for the Lich King, the leader of the Undead Scourge. The Undead Scourge was charged with crippling Azeroth prior to the invasion of the demonic Burning Legion. When the demon Archimonde arrived (with the help of Kel'Thuzad), he dismissed the Undead heroes. Arthas was furious, but Kel'Thuzad said that the Lich King had foreseen this, and had a plan.

Archimonde traveled to Kalimdor to lead the fight against the Night Elves himself. Arthas traveled to Kalimdor in secret and met Illidan. Arthas told Illidan about the Skull of Gul'Dan, hoping that the Night Elves, with their newfound power, would destroy the Burning Legion and free the Lich King from the Demons' control.
8. Which resource could the Night Elves harvest without damaging the source?

Answer: Lumber

Night Elves worked with nature and their natural home in the forests. While they still had to drain a goldmine to get gold, Wisps (their workers) could passively harvest lumber from trees without destroying them. Lumber harvesters only brought in 5 lumber at a time, which was lower than the other races.

While the Night Elves did not destroy trees to harvest lumber, they could still destroy trees by having Ancients eat them for health, having a Keeper of the Grove use Force of Nature to turn them into Treants, or by having Mountain Giants pick them up as clubs ("The Frozen Throne" only).

Food is the resource associated with population in "Warcraft III". Night Elves can increase their food limit by building Moon Wells, but food cannot be harvested.

Oil was a resource in "Warcraft II" that did not make it into "Warcraft III". Oil was found in the water. Naval units were also nonexistant (mostly) from "Warcraft III".
9. What was the name of the Night Elf goddess that many units made reference to?

Answer: Elune

The Night Elf religion focused heavily on the goddess Elune, and the moon. Many Night Elves have barks that reference Elune, or the goddess. Tyrand's hero type was a Priestess of the Moon, and in the "Warcraft" lore she was specifically a priestess of Elune. Elune was the mother of the demi-god Cenarius. Her symbol was the crescent moon.

The Lich King was the leader of the Undead Scourge, and was actually a repurposed Ner'Zhul. Quite a few Undead barks reference Ner'zhul and the Lich King. Doomhammer was an Orc that opposed the demonic rule of his people. He took control of the horde and led it against the Orcs' demon masters. Many Orc units have barks that reference Doomhammer. Archimonde was the leader of the Burning Legion in Kalimdor, and was the primary threat that managed to unite the Orcs, Humans, and Night Elves.
10. Using the first letter from the previous nine correct answers, spell out the name of the forest that was home to the Night Elves.

Answer: Ashenvale

Ashenvale forest was located in the northern half of the Kalimdor continent. The Night Elves were not seen in "Warcraft III" until the Orcs started cutting down their home to build new settlements. The Night Elves were very much in tune with nature. They avoided damaging their environment, and tried to live in harmony with it. Their lumber gathering techniques did not harm trees, and their buildings were often animated trees. The Night Elves fought the Orcs to protect their home and its other inhabitants. Later they united with the other mortal races against the even greater threat of the Burning Legion.

Ashenvale had many hidden sacred places for the druids and other ancient creatures. It was also the home of Mount Hyjal and the World Tree.
