Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Before dying, what does Sayaka Maizono write on the wall in her own blood?

Answer: 11037

Sayaka Maizono is the Ultimate Pop Sensation, and a member of an idol group. When Monobear shows everyone the videos of their loved ones, Sayaka panics, and hatches a plan to get Makoto executed by killing Leon Kuwata and framing Makoto for his murder.

Unfortunately, when she goes to kill Leon, Leon overpowers her, breaks down the bathroom door when she locks herself in, and stabs her. Sayaka writes '11037' on the wall in her own blood, which, when turned upside down, reads 'LEON'.
2. What was the first murderer's talent, and how did they use it in the first chapter?

Answer: Ultimate Baseball Star - turned on the incinerator by throwing a crystal ball

Leon is the Ultimate Baseball Star. He would rather be a musician, but is unwilling to put the effort in, and is naturally much better at baseball. He makes use of his skills after killing Sayaka. It is impossible to reach the switch of the incinerator, which Leon used to try and destroy evidence, so Leon activated the switch by throwing Hagakure's crystal ball at it. Being the Ultimate Baseball Star meant that he had excellent pitching skills, and is the only student capable of doing this.

Leon is found guilty of Sayaka's murder, and is executed by being stoned to death with baseballs fired from a ball machine.
3. In Chapter 2, which character is revealed to have a split personality, and is also the Ultimate Murderous Fiend, Genocide Jack?

Answer: Touko Fukawa

Chihiro Fujisaki, the Ultimate Programmer, was the second victim, found crucified with 'BLOODLUST' written on the wall - a trademark of Genocide Jack - and severe head wounds. Byakuya Togami sets the body up to look as though the notorious Genocide Jack had done it, although he misses one major detail: Genocide Jack always uses special scissors to crucify victims. During the trial, the Ultimate Writing Prodigy, Touko Fukawa, reveals herself to be Genocide Jack.

She switches personalities when she sneezes or sees blood.

As Genocide Jack, she has a longer tongue and red eyes. She also points out that she could not possibly have committed the murder, as the whole point of being able to win the game is to commit the 'perfect' murder, which means NOT getting caught, and she refuses to change her modus operandi. Furthermore, she only targets men, and until his death, the other students thought Chihiro was a girl.
4. Mondo Owada, the Ultimate Biker Gang Leader, is found guilty of Chihiro's murder and executed. What was the terrible secret that led him to commit murder?

Answer: His brother died protecting him during a motorbike race

Mondo Owada and his older brother Daiya were members of the Crazy Diamonds, Japan's biggest biker gang. Daiya was the original leader, and Mondo was his lieutenant. When the time came for Daiya to retire and hand the leadership over to Mondo, Mondo challenged him to a motorbike race. Daiya died protecting Mondo from being hit by a truck, and Mondo took over leadership of the gang. The motive for Chapter 2 was threatening to reveal individual students' darkest secrets.

It is revealed during the trial that Chihiro's secret was that he was actually a boy rather than a girl, and Chihiro had decided to become stronger and confess the truth to the other students. Chihiro had approached Mondo in the hope that Mondo would help him become stronger, but accidentally triggered Mondo's rage at his own cowardice and weakness, and Mondo hit Chihiro over the head with a dumbbell, killing him instantly. Despite Mondo's new friend Kiyotaka Ishimaru defending him during the trial, Mondo confesses and is executed by being tied to a motorbike and turned into butter inside an electrified cage.
5. How many murder victims are there in Chapter 3?

Answer: Two

Kiyotaka Ishimaru and Hifumi Yamada are the two victims. Chihiro is revealed to have created a programme before his death called Alter Ego, which has his face, and Hifumi falls in love with it. Celestia Ludenberg - who Hifumi has a crush on - manipulates him into killing Kiyotaka, by lying about how Kiyotaka stole Alter Ego and then tried to rape her when she tried to stop him. Hifumi bashes Kiyotaka over the head with a Justice Hammer (a painted mallet from the Art Room).

He and Celestia try to frame Yasuhiro Hagakure by knocking him out, putting him in a robot suit and faking photographs of him 'kidnapping' Hifumi. Hifumi fakes his death by covering himself in blood, and then moves Kiyotaka's body while Celestia distracts the other students by screaming.

However, Celestia later turns on Hifumi and bashes him over the head with a Justice Hammer. He dies for real, but not before saying 'Yasuhiro', which turns out to be Celestia's real name - Taeko Yasuhiro.
6. How is the murderer in Chapter 3 executed?

Answer: Crushed to death by a fire truck

Celestia Ludenberg, the Ultimate Gambler, is motivated to kill by the offer of a cash prize, and claims she wants to live in a castle surrounded by beautiful vampire servants. However, this is all an act; her real name is Taeko Yasuhiro, and her elegant façade drops during the trial and her real personality surfaces. Makoto states that he knew Hifumi meant her and not Yasuhiro Hagakure because Hifumi always referred to people by their surnames. Celestia's execution appears to be a witch burning - she stands on a pile of timber that is set on fire - but her real execution occurs when Monobear appears dressed as a fireman and driving a fire truck to put the fire out.

He crashes the truck into Celestia, killing her.
7. Who kills Sakura Ogami in Chapter 4?

Answer: Sakura herself - she commits suicide

In Chapter 4, Monobear reveals that Sakura, the Ultimate Martial Artist, is acting as a mole for him. He has blackmailed Sakura into working for him by threatening to destroy her family dojo, and ordered her to start a killing game (although Sayaka does this in the first chapter with her attempted murder of Leon). The students become divided; Aoi Asahina, Sakura's best friend, takes her side, as do Kyoko and Makoto, while Yasuhiro, Byakuya and Touko turn against her. Sakura is found dead in a science lab. Both Yasuhiro and Touko blame themselves for her death, as they both attacked her when she tried to make peace with them, but she is revealed to have killed herself by drinking poison; a suicide note is found with her body, stating that she killed herself out of despair. Aoi breaks down crying and tries to get everyone executed, as she blames the other students for making Sakura kill herself.

However, the suicide note is revealed to be a fake written by Monobear, and Sakura's real note is found, explaining her motives. Her death has the opposite effect of what Monobear intended, in that it unites the surviving students in planning to take down the Mastermind. Sakura has also smashed down a door that enables them to get into the headmaster's office.
8. How is Kyoko Kirigiri related to the headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy?

Answer: She is his daughter

The man we see being shoved into a rocket and shot into space at the beginning of 'Danganronpa' is Kyoko's father, Jin Kirigiri, who is also the headmaster of Hope's Peak. Kyoko (who is the Ultimate Detective) and her father were not close; however, when she sneaks into her father's office, she discovers that her name was the password on his computer. She also finds a box containing his bones, and a key that gives her access to every room in the school. In the fifth trial, Kyoko is blamed for the final murder, as a key to a locker containing murder weapons is found in her room, but she lies and says she was unable to enter her room as Byakuya had confiscated her key. Makoto covers for her and is forced to sit at a desk on a conveyor belt leading to a crusher, but Alter Ego stops the machine and he falls down a hole into the basement instead. Kyoko gets him out.

Because the fifth execution is a classroom setting, and because she is the headmaster's daughter, it is implied that it was intended for Kyoko and not Makoto. There is an alternate scenario where Makoto reveals in the trial that Kyoko is lying about not being able to get into her room, and she is executed, with the surviving students and the Mastermind being trapped in the school forever.
9. Junko Enoshima did not die in the first chapter; it was actually her twin sister in disguise who was killed.

Answer: True

Junko Enoshima, the Ultimate Fashionista, was presumed to have died in Chapter 1, when she challenged Monobear and was impaled with the Gungnir Spears. However, it was actually her twin sister, Mukuro Ikusaba, the Ultimate Soldier. Mukuro had disguised herself as Junko, although there are certain clues earlier in the game, such as her accepting field rations as a gift in the free time events, and her having freckles, while photos of Junko on magazine covers do not (Mukuro-as-Junko claims they were Photoshopped out). The students become aware of Mukuro's existence earlier in the game, but it is only in Chapter 5 that we find out about her.

After her death, Mukuro's body was kept in storage and later reused to fake the murder in Chapter 5. A bomb is used to disfigure her face, but the students work out who she is because of the multiple entry wounds on her corpse caused by the spears; when she enrolled in Hope's Peak, she was said to be so talented in her field that she never received injuries. She also has a tattoo on one hand, the mark of a mercenary group called Fenrir. The students realise that the real Junko is alive, and is somewhere in the building.
10. What is the Mastermind's true talent?

Answer: Ultimate Despair

Junko Enoshima is the Mastermind, and she and Mukuro are revealed to be members of a death cult called Ultimate Despair, who are responsible for causing a terrible tragedy that resulted in the breakdown of society. Junko's true talent is not Ultimate Fashionista, but Ultimate Despair. The students were locked inside the school to protect them from the outside world, but Junko wiped their memories of each other as Hope's Peak classmates, and none of them recall the tragedy. However, Genocide Jack has memories of the Tragedy, as she and Touko have separate memories, and when Touko switches personalities, Genocide Jack is able to confirm that what Junko is saying is true.

Junko is insane, constantly switches personalities, and is obsessed with despair. She states she killed Mukuro because losing her sister would be the most despairing thing of all. When she is exposed as the Mastermind and Makoto urges the students not to give up hope and vote against her, she revels in the despair caused by her plans failing, and happily executes herself, going through all the execution machines before finally being crushed on the conveyor belt used for Makoto's execution.
