Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which campaign had the first mission of the game, where the player learned the basic mechanics such as moving and fighting?

Answer: Russian

The first mission of "Call of Duty 2", Red Army Training, took place in Moscow during the Winter War. Vasili Koslov, who had never held a rifle before, learned fast as the Germans attacked just moments after his training started.

The mission taught players how to move, shoot, reload, switch weapons, and use grenades.
2. In which campaign did the player climb cliffs in Normandy on D-Day?

Answer: American

D-Day, as in "Call of Duty", was given to the Americans. This time, though, instead of playing as a paratrooper, players took on the role of a Ranger assaulting the Pointe du Hoc. The D-Day landing was the first mission in the American campaign.

The boats carrying he American soldiers were equipped with rocket-propelled grapples to help them ascend the heavily defended cliffs. Once at the top, the Rangers had to fight inland and destroy German artillery that could have made life worse for the soldiers on Omaha and Utah beaches.
3. In which campaign did the player oust Rommel from Africa?

Answer: British

The British campaign started off in Egypt, and moved to Tunisia. The campaign featured many moments of retreat followed by advancement, until Rommel and his Afrika Korps were pushed out by the British from the east, and the Americans from the west.
4. In which campaign did the player repair the broken telephone wire?

Answer: Russian

In the first mission in Stalingrad, the player was caught in the famous house-to-house combat, without any real battle lines existing. The player's job was to move through the city, following a telephone wire, and repair it where damaged. The broken wire was actually a common occurrence to due to the constant shelling from both sides.
5. In which campaign did the player assault a train station?

Answer: Russian

Right after repairing the wire, the player was ordered to assist in an assault on the train station. The station had apparently changed hands twelve times in the six hours leading up to the mission. The player approached the rail yard through a broken pipeline.
6. In which campaign did the player take and then defend Hill 400 in Germany?

Answer: American

The American block Hill 400 had three missions. The first was to capture the town of Bergstein, at the base of the hill. The second was to assault the hill itself, and take the bunker at the top. The third was a desperate last-stand at the top, repelling a German counter attack, waiting for reinforcements.
7. In which campaign did the player get to drive a tank?

Answer: British

While the "Call of Duty" series is mostly a first-person-shooter on foot, most installments have at least one vehicle mission. "Call of Duty 2" has two, in which the player takes control of a British Crusader tank in the deserts of Libya. The player had to assault German tanks, which had superior range, and artillery emplacements.
8. In which campaign did the player snipe Germans from city hall?

Answer: Russian

The final mission in the Russian campaign had the player defending Stalingrad's city hall with a sniper rifle. Wave upon wave of German soldiers assaulted the hall. The player had to take out advancing troops, machine guns, and German armored vehicles. If any Germans made it to the city hall, the player and the few Russian defenders left had to watch their backs while the main enemy force just kept moving towards them.
9. In which campaign did the player take the vital French city of Caen?

Answer: British

The final block of the British campaign, The Battle for Caen, was one of the hardest in "Call of Duty 2". "Call of Duty 2" was made back when "Call of Duty" games still had unending spawning enemies if the player did not advance in a mission. In missions that were already loaded with enemies, making it difficult to move forward, the unending supply of them made it even more so. Clearing the town of St. Louet in The Tiger was particularly infamous.
10. In which campaign did the player finally cross the Rhine in Germany?

Answer: American

The last block in the American campaign (and the last block in "Call of Duty 2") has only one mission: The Crossing Point. It is quite a long and difficult mission, but nothing out of the ordinary. It is a perfect cap to the game, capturing the general gameplay and atmosphere in a single, long final level.

The final mission had Americans crossing the Rhine River after Operation Market Garden had failed. They had to cross the river in amphibious assault vehicles, and take the small, though heavily defended, town of Wallendar. After moving though the entire town, eliminating artillery crews along the way, the few Americans left had to repel a tank-assisted German counter attack.

Once the dust settled, the Americans had a foot-hold on the east side of the Rhine, and promotions were handed out.
