They had to cross the river in amphibious assault vehicles, and take the small, though heavily defended, town of Wallendar. After moving though the entire town, eliminating artillery crews along the way, the few Americans left had to repel a tank-assisted German counter attack.

Once the dust settled, the Americans had a foot-hold on the east side of the Rhine, and promotions were handed out.
