Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After the first mission in "Wings of Liberty", the main character, James Raynor, was reunited with his old friend, Tychus Findley, who had a business proposition. Tychus was working for the Mobius Foundation, which was looking for hired help to do what?

Answer: Collect artifacts

The artifacts Mobius wanted to collect were from the ancient Xel'Naga. The Xel'Naga were the species that created the Protoss and the Zerg. Tychus didn't know why Mobius wanted the artifacts, but he didn't much care. Mobius was willing to pay a fortune for them, and that was good enough. Raynor trusted his old friend, and was not in much of a position to turn down any money.

There were a total of five pieces to the Xel'Naga artifact, and their significance would become apparent by the endgame.
2. While Raynor and Tychus were working for Mobius, they came across a group of extremist Protoss that worshiped the long gone Xel'Naga as gods. What was the name of this group?

Answer: The Tal'Darim

The Tal'Darim were the Protoss faction that Jim Raynor got to fight (he couldn't fight the main Protoss, because he was friends with most of them). The Xel'Naga artifacts that Tychus wanted to collect for the Mobius Foundation were often guarded by Tal'Darim, as well as the Terrazine gas that Gabriel Tosh wanted.

The Nerazim were the main Protoss faction. Daggoth was the name of one of the Zerg cerebrates from "Starcraft", used to control the broods. The Antigans were the human colonists of Antiga Prime, and early supporters of the Terran Dominion in "Starcraft".
3. Jim Raynor and his group, Raynor's Raiders, had to make a lot of sacrifices. Life wasn't easy on the Hyperion. To help keep spirits high, an arcade machine was installed in the Hyperion's bar. Which game could be played on the arcade machine?

Answer: Lost Viking

One of the first games released by Blizzard was "The Lost Vikings" in 1992. It was a platformer game with unique abilities given to each of the three controllable vikings. In "Starcraft II", released in 2010, one of the Terran units was called the Viking (no relation to the earlier Vikings). Blizzard created an arcade game called "Lost Viking" that could be played from the Hyperion's cantina. "Lost Viking" was a Shoot 'em Up game, in which the player controlled a Viking flying through space while fighting off other units from "Starcraft II". "Lost Viking" was a fun distraction, but had no impact on the actual story of "Starcraft II".
4. In "The Great Train Robbery" mission, Raynor's Raiders ambushed supply trains belonging to Arcturus Mengsk's Terran Dominion. Which interesting object was found on the last train?

Answer: An old adjutant

The adjutant was the robotic humanoid the helped Terran players manage their bases. They would provide updates, and were the face of any Terran building. On the train was an old adjutant from the events of "Starcraft", with its memories still intact. Once its memories were extracted, Raynor's Raiders had audio recordings of Mengsk revealing that he was far from the benevolent leader he claimed to be. Players also got a beautiful cinematic of the iconic moment from "Starcraft" in which Kerrigan was abandoned to the Zerg.
5. Part way through the campaign, the Dark Templar Zeratul approached his old friend, Raynor. What dire information did Zeratul tell Raynor?

Answer: That Kerrigan should not be killed

Zeratul went on a quest to learn about the intentions and origins of the Zerg. What he found was that the old Zerg Overmind was merely a puppet, and that Kerrigan was it's answer against its masters. The Xel'Naga, the creators of the Protoss and the Zerg races, were not all benevolent. Zeratul saw that without Kerrigan, the Xel'Naga would be able to destroy all galactic civilization.

Zeratul relayed this information to Raynor through a memory shard, which let players play as the Protoss for a few missions. "Starcraft" was released with one campaign for each of its three races, but "Starcraft II" was released with only one campaign, for the Terran. With the Protoss campaign planned as the last one, this meant Protoss fans had to wait a long time before they had a campaign. The Memory shard missions were a way to tide over the Protoss drought.
6. Agrea was a farming planet with a small Terran colony, led by Dr. Ariel Hanson. After escaping the destruction of their world, they managed to settle on a new world, Haven. Which group wanted to kill the surviving colonists on Haven?

Answer: The Protoss Protectorate

"Starcraft" and "Starcraft II" had missions designed to give players every possible match up. When playing as Terran in "Wings of Liberty", players fought the Terran Dominion, Kerrigan's Zerg forces, and the extremist Tal'Darim Protoss. Raynor was actually on good terms with the main Protoss faction, the Protoss Protectorate. The mission on Haven was unique because it was the only time Raynor had the option to fight his friends.

The Protoss detected Zerg strains amongst the surviving human colonists, and wanted to eradicate every last one to prevent the spread of Zerg. Dr. Ariel Hanson was confident that she could create a cure for those infected. Raynor had to choose whether to save the colonists from his Protoss friends, to help help the Protoss eradicate the Zerg.
7. One of Raynor's new allies was Gabriel Tosh, who had a series of missions he wanted help with. Tosh was trying to free his Specter friends from a Dominion prison, but there was an obstacle. Who tried to convince Raynor to stop helping Tosh?

Answer: Nova Terra

Nova was a Ghost working for the Terran Dominion. She was supposed to have her own game, "Starcraft: Ghost", but the project was cancelled. Nova was still used in supporting material, such as novels, and made an appearance in "Starcraft II".

Gabriel Tosh belonged to a group called the Spectres, which were similar to Ghosts. He wanted to break his Spectre friends out of prison, promising their support to Raynor. Nova contacted Raynor, and decided to fill him in on what Tosh left out; that the Spectres were all unpredictable and psychotic. Raynor had to choose whether to help Tosh free his former friends, or help Nova keep the Spectres locked up.
8. The Dominion was often producing newer and more terrifying military hardware. Which prototype weapon did Raynor's Raiders steal from the Dominion?

Answer: The Odin

The Odin was a massive walking death machine being developed by the Dominion. Tychus was able to commandeer the Odin, and then helped wreck the Dominion base, preventing the scientists and engineers from getting a message out. Later, the Raider's managed to get the Odin to the capital planet of Korhol for a Dominion military demonstration. The Dominion was celebrating their latest hardware when it suddenly started attacking them. Swann, the Hyperion's chief mechanic, was able to create the smaller Thor schematics based on the Odin design.

Jackson's Revenge was the name of a special mercenary Battlecruiser that could be recruited through Graven Hill. The Archangel and the Gorgon were both special units used by the Terran Dominion in the sequel campaign, "Heart of the Swarm".
9. Eventually Raynor's Raiders had to turn away from their fight against the Terran Dominion, and deal with the larger Zerg threat. On the planet Char, Raynor was able to use the ancient Xel'Naga artifact against the leader of the Zerg, Kerrigan. What did the artifact do to Kerrigan?

Answer: It turned her back into a human

The final mission in "Wings of Liberty" was a defensive one. Raynor's Raiders had to hold off an onslaught of Zerg while the Xel'Naga artifact charged up. The artifact could be used to create a mini-pulse that would destroy all Zerg in a large area, but when it was fully charged, the Raiders used it to destroy a massive portion of the Zerg on Char.

The artifact even destroyed most of Kerrigan's Zerg infestation, leaving her in her human form.
10. Tychus, despite being James' old friend, was not entirely forthcoming about his mission or employer. What was Tychus' true goal?

Answer: To kill Kerrigan

Most marines and soldiers in the Terran armies were criminals, purchased and flash-educated in combat to be used as disposable troops. Tychus was serving a life sentence when somebody purchased the rights to his sentence. He was stuck in a suit of armor that would not release him until his mission was completed.

He approached his old friend, James Raynor, with a business proposition from the Mobius Foundation to collect artifacts, but that was not the whole story. His actual benefactor was Arcturus Mengsk, the leader of the Terran Dominion, and Raynor's most hated enemy.

The only person Mengsk felt more threatened by was Kerrigan, and he knew Raynor was trying to get to her, as well. When Raynor finally defeated Kerrigan and found her body on Char, Tychus tried to fulfill his mission. Raynor blocked Tychus' shot, and shot back at his old friend, using the bullet he had been saving for Mengsk. With Tychus dead, Kerrigan saved, and Mengsk's plans thwarted, all that was left for Raynor was to walk off into the sunset.
