Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What board game is Literati similar to?

Answer: scrabble

Literati and Scrabble are similar, but there are many differences also. The board is the same 15x15, but the letter distributions are far different. Yahoo! uses a random generator, but in Scrabble, there are set numbers of tiles for each letter, i.e. nine A's, 12 E's, etc.
2. What is the largest point value for one letter?

Answer: 5

In Scrabble, Q and Z are 10 points, but in Literati, Q, X, J and Z are only 5 points.
3. How many points are in the bingo bonus?

Answer: 35

In Scrabble, you receive 50 points for using all seven tiles, but in Literati you only receive 35.
4. How many people can play Literati?

Answer: 2-5

Yahoo! only allows 5 people to play.
5. If you play the word "quizzed" with the Z on a triple letter score and the D on a triple word, how many points are scored by using all 7 tiles?

Answer: 122

You score 5 for the Q and one Z, 1 for the U, I, E, and D, and 5*3 for the other Z as it is on a triple letter score for a total of 29, times 3 for the triple word for a score of 87, plus 35 for using all seven tiles for a final tally of 122 points. You'd score 200 in Scrabble...provided there were 2 Z's. In Literati, there is no set letter distribution.

(5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 15) * 3 + 35 = 122
29
6. Is "AA" considered a valid word?

Answer: Yes

AA, AE, and AI are all considered valid 2 letter words without consonants.
7. How many of the letters of the alphabet are worth 5 points?

Answer: 4

J, Q, X, and Z are all worth 5 points.
8. Does the Y! space do anything?

Answer: No

Unlike the star in Scrabble, which falls in the center of the board, the Y! space does nothing.
9. Does Yahoo! rate every game you play?

Answer: No

You have the option to have the game rated or not before you create the table.
10. What is the required rating for a red square to appear beside your name?

Answer: 2100

A blue square indicates 1200-1499, a purple square 1500-1799, an orange 1800-2099, and the coveted red for all ratings over 2100.
