The Water Temple from "Ocarina of Time" has a reputation for being one of the most difficult and frustrating dungeons in the franchise. It was so frustrating that the producers of the series apologized for it in 2009. The main difficulty is that Link constantly has to flood and drain the temple which can only be done in certain places that are hard to find and often out of the way. Another annoyance is the frequent use of the Iron Boots which can only be equipped by pausing the game and going through the main inventory screen. The temple's difficulty became something of a recurring joke in future games as some characters will tell Link the water dungeons in those games are too hard to complete. In "Twilight Princess" for example, Midna will tell Link to hurry up in Lakeside Temple because it is frustrating her.

When the game was remade for the 3DS, the Water Temple was made slightly easier by the addition of lighted pathways to indicate where the dungeon can be flooded or drained.

The Zora are fish humanoid creatures who live mainly in Zora's Domain and the surrounding waterways. Freshwater Zoras tend to be bluish in color and friendly toward Link. Saltwater Zoras tend to be greenish and look more like dragons. Saltwater Zoras are considered enemies and will attack Link. An exception to this is Oren from "A Link Between Worlds" who is a Saltwater Zora but is friendly. The friendly Zoras are loyal allies to the Hylian Royal Family and often fight alongside them.

Despite being fishlike, Zoras appear to be able to spend significant amounts of time on land and air.

Answer: An ancient goddess

Lake Hylia is named after the goddess Hylia who was entrusted by the original three goddess to watch over the Triforce. She plays a significant role in "Skyward Sword" as her backstory as reincarnating herself as Zelda sets the events of that game in motion.

Lake Hylia appears in many games in the franchise. Typically, there is a water-themed dungeon on the lake's floor and water enemies live in the lake. Waterfalls and vortexes are commonly found in and around Lake Hylia.

Answer: Hyrule Castle

Prior to the events in "Wind Waker", Hyrule was flooded to prevent Ganon from taking over the land. The game takes place on the Great Sea, a vast open ocean over what used to be Hyrule with many different islands scattered around. Hyrule Castle was lost in the flood and can be found underwater under the Tower of the Gods. Link must enter Hyrule Castle to retrieve the Master Sword from its pedestal.

Answer: Octorok

Octoroks resemble squids or octopi. They are commonly found in water but sometimes walking on land, depending on the game. Frequently, octoroks will hide until Link approaches. Their main attack is shooting something at Link from their mouths which Link must reflect back at them with his sword. Water based octoroks are the most common but there are other varieties including treasure, rock, snow and sky.

Answer: Guardians

During his quest in "Skyward Sword", Link must collect sacred tears in the Silent Realm. Collecting a sacred tear will put a guardian to sleep for 90 seconds, allowing Link to safely look for more sacred tears without being chased. However, if Link steps into a puddle of waking water, the Guardians will awaken no matter how much time is left on the clock.

Answer: Zora's Flippers

Link typically needs the Zora's Flippers to swim in 2D games and can swim on his own in 3D games. In some games, the Zora's Flippers also allow Link to dive underwater. Even in games where Link can swim unaided, he often needs certain items to improve his ability or stamina. In "Breath of the Wild", for example, Link can use the Zora Armor to swim up waterfalls.

Answer: Temple of Droplets

The Temple of Droplets is mainly an ice-themed dungeon as it is frozen however there are portions that are flooded. The Temple of Droplets is located in Lake Hylia and its boss is the Big Octorok. Link's reward for completing the Temple of Droplets is the Water Element, which allows Link to forge the Empowered White Sword.

Answer: Mipha

Mipha was a Zora Princess and Zora Champion who was the pilot of Divine Vah Beast Ruta. Prior to the events in the game, Calamity Ganon seized control of Divine Beast Vah Ruta. As a result, Mipha was killed and her spirit was trapped inside the divine beast.

In the present, Vah Ruta (who resembles an elephant) causes a terrible rain to fall and threatens to overflow Lanayru Great Spring. Link and Sidon (Mipha's Brother) must work together to remove Vah Ruta's barrier which will allow Link to enter the divine beast and seize control of it.

Answer: Iza

Iza is a young woman who lives in a cabin on Lake Hylia. She is the sister of Coro and Hena. Iza requires Link's help in removing the boulders blocking the waterway to Lake Hylia. Link must blow up these boulders using bomb arrows. Once he does that, Iza opens up the Rapid Rides minigame where Link can rent a boat and score points by shooting pots. If he scores enough points, Iza will give him a larger bomb bag.

There is also Rapid Rides Minigame in "Link's Awakening". Link can collect a variety of items by riding a raft on the rapids. This is the only way to reach certain places on Koholint Island.
