Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My first trip took me to the city where you can see Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, and Westminster Abbey, all within the same day and on foot. But stay on foot - you don't want to incur this city's "congestion charge". Which city did I visit?

Answer: London

The City of London proper is actually quite small (it is known as the "Square Mile"), but Greater London includes these landmarks and many more.
2. On an easy day's trip from London, you can visit the city in Somerset where the Royal Crescent, Pulteney Bridge, and the Temple of Sulis Minerva are located. In what city would you be?

Answer: Bath

The entire City of Bath was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 thanks in large part to its well-preserved Roman baths, which were built upon hot springs.
3. In what Italian city will you find the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, the Piazza della Repubblica, and the Spanish Steps?

Answer: Rome

The historic center of Rome was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1980. According to UNESCO's discussion of Rome, the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore is the most artistically important of the four papal basilicas.
4. In what North American city will you be able to see the CN Tower, Rogers Centre, and the Ice Hockey Hall of Fame - all within about a 10-block radius of one another?

Answer: Toronto

For nearly three decades, the CN Tower was the world's tallest structure. It kept that title until 2009.
5. Heading to the Middle East as a tourist? One of the most popular tourist destinations is this thriving city in which the Burj Khalifa, the Burj al-Arab, and the Mall of the Emirates are located. What city is this?

Answer: Dubai

Burj Khalifa was at the time of its contruction the tallest building in the world, at 2717 feet. The Burj al-Arab is the renown "7-star" hotel which was built in the shape of a sail. The Mall of the Emirates is not the largest mall in Dubai; that honor goes currently to the unimaginatively names Dubai Mall. But the Mall of the Emirates is home to the indoor skiing facility Ski Dubai.
6. A European trip to this city may start on your landing at Barajas International Airport. After you leave the airport, you can see Royal Palace, Museo Prado, and the famous Plaza Mayor. In what city are you?

Answer: Madrid

Madrid is, of course, the capital of Spain. Its population as of 2009 was estimated to be in excess of 3.25 million people.
7. This historic city's sights include Tour Eiffel, Cathedral of Notre Dame, Musee d'Orsay and Musee du Louvre. In what city are these located?

Answer: Paris

Paris is a beautiful city architecturally and aesthetically speaking. As of 2007, the Paris metropolitan area was home to over 11.8 million people.
8. A hidden jewel of sorts in Italy is this city, where you can see the Villa d'Este, Hadrian's Villa (Villa Adriana), and the Temple of Vesta. In what city are these fascinating locations found?

Answer: Tivoli

The Villa d'Este was built for Cardinal Ippolito il d'Este in the 1550s. It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2001. Hadrian's Villa (or, in Italian, Villa Adriana), was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1999.
9. A trip around Europe's artistic history will not be complete without taking in the Palazzo della Signoria (Palazzo Vecchio), the Basilica di Santa Croce (with Michelangelo's tomb), and the world-famous Uffizi gallery. Where are these "don't-miss" sights?

Answer: Florence

Florence is also home to Brunelleschi's dome and Giotto's bell tower, both of which are all part of the huge cathedral known as Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore. The Basilica di Santa Croce is similar to Westminster Abbey in London in the respect that many of Italian history's most famous people - such as Michelangelo and Galileo - are buried at the church, with huge sculpted monuments marking their resting place.
10. In what Canadian city would you be if you wandered through Stanley Park, took pictures of the Lions Gate Bridge, and went to Chinatown for peace and quiet at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden?

Answer: Vancouver

The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden was the first full-sized Chinese "scholars" garden built outside China.

Vancouver is well known also for its bridges such as the Lions Gate Bridge. Since downtown Vancouver has water on three of its four sides, its city fathers focused on aesthetically pleasing bridges to traverse the waterways.
