As a result of this, Aung San Suu Kyi flew from Oxford, where she was currently living, to care for her in Burma.

5. Aung San Suu Kyi's mother didn't support her political activities.

Answer: False

It was Aung San Oo who didn't support her. They have had many arguments, one of these instances was about the house that was left to them when their mother died and then about the roof being fixed when Suu Kyi was in house arrest. On the 19th September 2008, when Aung San Suu Kyi, was in house arrest, her roof was broken and leaking.

She went to court and appealed against the rule that stopped her from fixing it but the person stopping her from doing this was Aung San Oo. One of the democracy campaigner's lawyers, U Kyi Win, confirmed: "First of all, her brother went to the mayor and got a temporary order to stop the repair to the roof. We have to go tomorrow [to argue against it] and we already have our objections." The argument between San Suu Kyi and her brother dated back to 1988 when their mother sorrowfully died from a stroke. Khin Kyi left the house that they were brought up in to her children. San Oo said that Suu Kyi could have the house but if she sold it he could have half the profits but in the year 2000 he launched a legal action for the house to be divided. That is why he had a right to not have the roof fixed. On that occasion Aung San Suu Kyi's lawyers were successful and she got to keep the house and also after some time she was allowed to fix her roof.
