The "Mona Lisa" painted by Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most famous paintings in the world. It is also the most visited painting in the world. It has belonged to the Louvre's collection since 1797. It is also called "La Joconde" and "La Gioconda".

Rembrandt's "Bathsheba at Her Bath" depicts the biblical story of David and Bathsheba where he first comes upon her while she is bathing. There are many artist portrayals of this story, however Rembrandt's is one of the first to focus on the sensual features of the story.

"Jupiter and Antiope" painted by Antoine Watteau depicts the story of the Roman god Jupiter seducing Antiope, the daughter of King Nycteus. This painting is also called "Satyr and the Sleeping Nymph".

The Louvre is the most visited museum in the world. It was once a royal palace and fortress but became a museum around the time of the French Revolution. One of the most famous features at the Louvre is the glass pyramid outside designed by I.M. Pei. The museum also featured prominently in the Dan Brown novel "The Da Vinci Code" and its film adaptation.
