Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Out of the four different language pairs, which two use "Te amo" to say "I love you"?

Answer: Spanish and Latin

Ok, this wasn't a nice question, I admit. Spanish and Latin are the two languages which use "Te amo." However, Italian also does... the only catch is that, in Italian, it is spelt "Ti amo."
2. How would you tell that special someone how much they mean to you (i.e. "I love you") in Hebrew?

Answer: Ani ohev otach

I think Hebrew is one of the most beautiful languages around. "Bevakasha" actually means please, while "ani beseder" means "I'm fine." "Shalom" is a typical Hebrew greeting, but is also sometimes used as a way of saying "peace," or "peace to you." As an extra bit of info, "Ani ohev otach" is used when a male is saying it to a female, BUT "Ani ohev otkah" is used when a female is saying it to a male.
3. The correct way of saying "I love you" in Afrikaans is "Ek lief jou."

Answer: False

There are two ways of saying "I love you" in Afrikaans. The most commonly used is "Ek is lief vir jou," and the other, but less commonly used is "Ek het jou lief."
4. Which of the following is NOT a way of saying "I love you"?

Answer: Eres un mono

Not a fun question at all... "Eres un mono" is the correct answer here, as it actually means "You are a monkey" in Spanish. "Jag älskar dig" is the Swedish term for "I love you," while "Minä rakastan sinua" is Finnish, and "As tave myliu" is Lithuanian.
5. What is the correct way of saying "I love you" in German?

Answer: Ich liebe dich

In order to express your feelings in German, you would have to say "Ich liebe dich". "Ik hou van je" is the Dutch way of saying it, and if you were to say either of the other two to any respectable German, you'd get a reputation as being either very arrogant, or very rude.
6. Although Russian generally uses an entirely different alphabet to us, how would you say "I love you" in Russian?

Answer: Ya tebya lyublyu

Unfortunately, I can't put the actual Russian characters onto the site, but "Ya tebya lyublyu" is the correct pronunciation of how to say it in Russian. "Vy ochen' krasivy" is a way of telling someone that they are beautiful in Russian, while "Dobry den'" is "Good day." "Pozdravlyayu" is the Russian word for "Congratulations."
7. How would you say "I love you" in French?

Answer: Je t'aime

"Je t'aime" would be the correct answer in this case. "Je te hais" means "I hate you," and "Tu m'aimes" means "you love me." "Je t'ecoute" means "I am listening to you." Perfect phrases for that first awkward stage of dating.
8. There are many, many African languages. "Ngiya kuthanda" is the correct way of saying "I love you" in which of these African languages?

Answer: Zulu

I knew those Zulu lessons would come in handy some day... "Ngiya kuthanda" is the correct way of expressing to someone how much they mean to you in the Zulu language. To say it in Tswana, say "Keyagorata," and in order to say it in Shona, say "Ndinoluda." The correct way of saying it in Latin is "Te amo"... and if you did answer Latin, it is NOT an African langauge!
9. "Ikh hob dikh lib" is "I love you" in which language?

Answer: Yiddish

To express your feelings in Yiddish, merely utter "Ikh hob dikh lib," and with a bit of luck, they'll return the feeling.
10. What is the correct way of saying "I love you" in Portuguese?

Answer: Eu te amo

If you spotted the "te amo" and answered that, congratulations! "E odeio-o" actually means "I hate you," while "Eu sou louco" and "Você é louco" mean "I am mad" and "You are mad" respectively. So here, you have not only learned how to tell someone you love them, but how to insult them too (although I'm not encouraging it!)

I hope you enjoyed this quiz, and that you are now capable of letting that special someone know just how much they mean to you in more than one language!
