The temple was announced on 14 August 1967. The site was dedicated on 15 September 1969 by Joseph Fielding Smith and the groundbreaking was that same day, performed by Hugh B Brown. The dedication wasn't until 2 1/2 years later, on 9 February 1972 by Harold B Lee.
