Answer: Lincoln Futura

Though not ever made for the public, the design of the Batmobile was based on a concept model made by Lincoln in 1955 called the Futura.

2. What is the origin of the name of the British car manufacturer Marcos?

Answer: Marsh and Costin

Made in England from the 1950s, the name is a combination of Jem MARsh and Frank COStin.
3. Which of these car manufacturers is not named after its original owner?

Answer: Matra

Matra, the French manufacturer, is actually an acronym of Mecanique Aviation TRAction. (Translation more or less as appears). Mr Opel and Mr Horch were German, and Mr Suzuki Japanese.
4. Which current range of cars uses the designation 'classic' to refer to retro versions of existing models?

Answer: Daihatsu

Though all these and more make retro versions (mainly for their home Japanese markets), Daihatsu use the classic tag to their versions with old-fashioned chrome grilles and round headlights.
5. Which of these manufacturers' names is not an acronym?

Answer: Alvis

Alvis, the English company who produced till 1967 actually has no known meaning. My translations from other languages are only rough ones. The others mean: SAAB- Svenska Aeroplan Aktie Bolaget (Swedish aeroplanes limited), Simca- Societe Industriale mecanique et carroserie automobile (Car and mechanical parts manufacturers), and Fiat- Fabrici Italiano Automobile Torino (Torino Italian car works).
6. Which was the only car sold in the UK by Isuzu?

Answer: Piazza

The Isuzu Piazza was their first and only attempt to sell a saloon car in the UK, actually a 2 door coupe. As sales were disappointing, they pulled out, but continue to export MPVs there. Plaza is a Plymouth, Palio is a Fiat and a Piano is a musical instrument.
7. What is unusual about the 1938 car, the Phantom Corsair?

Answer: Only one was made

8. Why is the Ford Escort RS 'Mexico' called Mexico?

Answer: Named after the rally it won there

As the Ford Escort won the London to Mexico rally in 1970, a rally version was first marketed in 1971 with the Mexico name.
9. Which Japanese manufacturer sold the first cars in the UK?

Answer: Daihatsu

No, it wasn't one of the big ones. Daihatsu exported a small number of its small saloon the Compagno to Britain in 1966.
10. How many versions of Ford's American Edsel were made before it was withdrawn (changes were made annually)?

Answer: 3

Though now a collectors item, the Edsel had a production run of 3 versions from 1957-8, 1958-9 and 1959-60. In 1960, after continually disappointing sales, it was withdrawn from production.
