When Charlie finds a golden ticket, multiple people offer to buy it from him. The shopkeeper tells Charlie to run home and not let anyone have it. Charlie follows the shopkeeper's advice, but then he tells the family that he wants to sell the ticket because they need money more than they need chocolate. Grandpa George tells Charlie that there's lots of money in the world, but only five golden tickets, so selling the ticket wouldn't be smart. Charlie listens to Grandpa George and he decides to go to the factory.

Answer: Well-connected
"This is the story of an ordinary boy named Charlie Bucket. He was not faster or stronger or more clever than other children. His family was not rich, powerful or well-connected. In fact, they barely had enough to eat. Charlie Bucket was the luckiest boy in the world. He just didn't know it yet."
This comment from the narrator is the first thing we hear in the movie, as the movie shows us the protagonist. Then we see his house which is a very poorly-built house. Inside the house, we see four grandparents sharing one bed, the mother cooking soup for the whole family, and the dad bringing a present to Charlie.

Willy Wonka is played by Johnny Depp in this film. Apparently, Depp's version of Wonka is something of an amalgam, part Mr. Rogers, part Howard Hughes, part rock star. Whatever it is, it worked!

Answer: Grandpa Joe
After being treated to the welcoming puppet show, the five children and their adult escorts were surprised to find Willy Wonka watching the show with them. Grandpa Joe mentioned to Willy that he used to work for him. When Grandpa Joe answered in the negative, Willy smiled and said, "Then wonderful, welcome back."
Grandpa Joe was played by David Kelly.

From Quiz: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Answer: Johnny Depp
Willy Wonka was played by Johnny Depp. In the movie, Willy Wonka held a contest to help him find a child to take over the factory when he dies. Johnny Depp played Willy Wonka quite a bit differently to the first Willy. Some said that he acted a bit like Michael Jackson, but I think he did a great job putting a spin on Willy Wonka.
From Quiz: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Answer: Willy won't allow Charlie's family to come.
Willy didn't allow Charlie's family to come because he was afraid they were going to tell Charlie what he is or is not allowed to do, much like Willy's own father did. Willy, recalling his own childhood, believes that you need to run away from home and have no family in order to be successful. Charlie loves his family way more than he loves chocolate, so Charlie refuses to come.

Answer: Inventing room
One of the things he shows off in this room is the everlasting gobstopper, which you can suck on as much as you want, it will never get smaller, and if you try chewing it it will break your teeth. Another thing is hair toffee, which helps people grow hair all over their bodies, but he hasn't gotten it quite right because an Oompa Loompa ate one and grew so much hair, it blocked his face so he couldn't see. Yet another thing he shows off is chewing gum that's a full dinner/dessert by itself, but he hasn't gotten it quite right yet either.

In addition, he wanted to go more than anyone else did.

The next day, they hired workers to fix a hole in the roof. Then, Mr. Bucket got a new job at the toothpaste factory repairing the machine that had replaced him. They started making more money and eating better. Things were never better for the Buckets. Meanwhile, Willy Wonka was in therapy, realizing that Charlie had made him feel terrible, and since he always made the candy he felt like making, him feeling terrible made the candy terrible.
From Quiz: "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" Plot 4
Answer: Because then she can't win any more trophies
Violet chews the magic gum, ignoring the warnings of Wonka and Grandpa Joe, and then she turns into a blueberry. Her mom then says "I can't have a blueberry as a daughter. How is she supposed to compete?" Veruca then says the only thing she ever says that makes me not hate her for a few seconds "You can put her in a county fair."
The hint here is that the bad kids are the way they are in part because of their parents. Despite the warnings of Willy and Grandpa Joe, Violet's mom encouraged her daughter to chew the gum. Both the mom and daughter were so arrogant, they thought that they knew better than the man who invented the gum and the man who used to work for the man who invented the gum. Their arrogance was their downfall.

The name of the location appears on the bottom of the screen right before we meet Veruca. In the book, Roald Dahl did not specify the country or city each child was from. This was a carry-over from the original movie, "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" (1971), as was the idea of only bringing one parent instead of two.

Veruca Salt: 'Make time go faster.'

Unwilling to let Violet have the upper hand, Veruca also introduced herself, followed by Augustus. Willy then turned to Mike and said, "You're the little devil who cracked the system." From Quiz: Wonkalicious: "Charlie & the Chocolate Factory"

Mike and his dad didn't seem to have a very close relationship in the movie. Mike and Violet were the only two characters who didn't bring the same person to the factory as they did in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". In "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," Mike brought his mom and Violet brought her dad.
From Quiz: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Answer: "Yep."
Willy gets his shoes shined by Charlie, his face covered by the newspaper. He pretends to be a stranger who's heard of the famous chocolatier but can't remember his name. He pretends that the paper is telling him that Willy Wonka's new candies aren't selling very well, "but maybe he's a rotten egg who deserves it." Charlie replies "Yep." Willy then asks Charlie if he ever met the chocolatier. Charlie says "I did. I thought he was great at first, but then he didn't turn out so nice. He also has a funny haircut." Willy then puts down the newspaper and reveals himself to Charlie, saying "I do not!" Charlies asks why he is here. Willy said that he didn't feel well and asked Charlie what made him feel better when he felt bad. Charlie said "My family." Willy said "Ew." Charlie said "What do you have against my family?" Willy explained that his issue wasn't with Charlie's family, but with family in general. He doesn't like that parents tell their kids what to do. Charlie says "Usually they're trying to protect you because they love you. If you don't believe me, you should ask." Willy doesn't want to talk to his father alone. Charlie offers to come along. Willy lets Charlie come along.

From Quiz: "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" Plot 3
Answer: "I don't care."
Violet learns that surprise-hugging people is not a good idea. You should never hug anyone without permission. Additionally, Willy is not interested in learning their names. He'd already seen them on TV or read about them in the newspapers, as we can infer from the fact that he knew Mike Teavee's name and how he got a ticket.
From Quiz: "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" Plot 2
Answer: It melted in the sun.
Prince Pondicherry asked Willy Wonka to make a palace entirely out of chocolate. Wonka and his workers did exactly that, but Wonka warned the prince that the palace would not last long and that he and his wife better start eating right away. The prince responded that he was planning on living in the palace, not eating it. Wonka turned out to be right. The prince sent an urgent telegram requesting a new palace, apparently not learning his lesson. Wonka had too many of his own problems to give the prince another soon-to-melt palace, anyway.
Oddly, Grandpa Joe said that Wonka once made ice cream that never melted. Why Wonka could do that with ice cream but not with chocolate was never explained.
