Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Willy Wonka's father refused to let him celebrate which holiday?

Answer: Halloween

Willy Wonka's father was a dentist who wanted his son to have healthy teeth. So when Willy went out trick-or-treating, his dad would lecture him on the dangers of eating candy and chocolate and the dad would burn all the candy.
2. According to Willy Wonka, what's the most important room in the factory?

Answer: Inventing room

One of the things he shows off in this room is the everlasting gobstopper, which you can suck on as much as you want, it will never get smaller, and if you try chewing it it will break your teeth. Another thing is hair toffee, which helps people grow hair all over their bodies, but he hasn't gotten it quite right because an Oompa Loompa ate one and grew so much hair, it blocked his face so he couldn't see. Yet another thing he shows off is chewing gum that's a full dinner/dessert by itself, but he hasn't gotten it quite right yet either.
3. Why doesn't Violet's mom want her daughter to be a blueberry?

Answer: Because then she can't win any more trophies

Violet chews the magic gum, ignoring the warnings of Wonka and Grandpa Joe, and then she turns into a blueberry. Her mom then says "I can't have a blueberry as a daughter. How is she supposed to compete?" Veruca then says the only thing she ever says that makes me not hate her for a few seconds "You can put her in a county fair."

The hint here is that the bad kids are the way they are in part because of their parents. Despite the warnings of Willy and Grandpa Joe, Violet's mom encouraged her daughter to chew the gum. Both the mom and daughter were so arrogant, they thought that they knew better than the man who invented the gum and the man who used to work for the man who invented the gum. Their arrogance was their downfall.
4. Where did Willy find the first piece of candy that he ever ate?

Answer: In the fireplace

After his dad burned his Halloween candy, Willy went to the fireplace searching for remnants of the burned candy. He ate a piece, and though it had been burned, apparently it was still good enough to have him hooked on candy for life. The other parents besides Grandpa Joe become concerned about Willy because he has so many flashbacks.
5. Who tells Willy that he knows all about the nut room?

Answer: Mr. Salt

Mr. Salt thought he knew all about the nut room because he owned a nut factory. He gives Willy Wonka his business card, which Willy Wonka immediately throws away. When Mr. Salt sees the nut room, it's nothing like he thought.
6. Who tries to steal a squirrel?

Answer: Veruca

Veruca asks her dad for a squirrel. Her dad tells her that she has many marvelous pets. She then says "All I have at home is..." and then she goes on to reveal what most people would consider a long list of pets. The other people there give her odd looks as they can't believe what she is saying.

Her dad then tries to buy a squirrel. Willy refuses to sell one. Veruca says that if her dad won't buy a squirrel for her, she will get one herself. She breaks into the nut room and tries to steal a squirrel, but then all the squirrels gang up on her and carry her to the garbage chute.

The Oompa Loompas then sing a song about her. Willy then opens the door so her dad can get her. Just as he gets close to the chute, they knock him into the chute with her.
7. When Willy told his dad that he would run away, what does his dad say?

Answer: "Go ahead, but I won't be here when you come back."

Willy runs away because his dad won't let him pursue his dream of being a chocolatier. His dad allows this but promises that he won't be there when Willy returns. Willy then visits a museum where he can see the flags of the world. He then tries to return home, but his father was true to his word. His home had disappeared.
8. Who called Willy an idiot?

Answer: Mike

Mike attacked Willy for supposedly not knowing how television works. After he saw chocolate getting sent by television, Mike then attacked Willy for supposedly not realizing what he invented. Mike thought Willy invented a teleporter and that Willy didn't realize that's what he invented because all he thinks about is chocolate.

His dad tried to reassure him that Willy knew what he was talking about, but then Mike said "No he doesn't. He has no idea. He thinks he's a genius, but he's an idiot. But I'm not." Mike went on to prove that what he said was the opposite of the truth (that Mike was an idiot and Willy was not). Mike then pushed down some Oompa Loompas and then sent himself by television, forgetting that things and people shrink when they are sent by television.
9. When Willy, Charlie, and Grandpa Joe are the only ones who return to the elevator, Willy tells them that he's pressed all the buttons in the elevator except which one?

Answer: Up and out

Charlie wins the competition by being the most well-behaved kid, listening to Willy and not disobeying him and ruining himself in the process. For the first part of his reward, Willy lets him push the one button in the elevator that Willy has never pushed.

The button is called "Up and out" and it makes the elevator exit the factory through the ceiling. It flies and lets them travel anywhere.
10. Did the evil kids and parents survive their trip to Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory?

Answer: Yes

Although most of them were altered a lot, they all survived. Augustus exits the factory covered in chocolate, possibly having turned into chocolate. He eats himself though his mom tries to stop him. Violet is no longer a blueberry. She is permanently blue and she has increased flexibility.

She's happy with her increased flexibility, but for the first time ever, her mother is not proud of her and never will be proud of her again because she is permanently blue. Veruca and her dad exit the factory covered in garbage.

Her dad has decided that he won't spoil her anymore. When Mike exits the factory, he is very tall but he is also absurdly thin.
