Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who directed "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"?

Answer: Tim Burton

After decades of denying movie-makers the rights to make another film based on the book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", Roald Dahl's family finally sold the rights to Tim Burton, as they liked the ideas and rough script he presented to them. Other Tim Burton films include "Big Fish", "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Edward Scissorhands."
2. Five people claim to find Golden Tickets.

Answer: False

In the opening scenes showing the finding of the Golden Tickets, six people claim to find Golden Tickets, but one is a forgery. There are only five real Golden Tickets. The real tickets are found by Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, Mike Teavee, and Charlie Bucket.
3. Which character eats the Three-Course-Dinner gum?

Answer: Violet

On the factory tour, Willy shows the visitors his invention of gum that is a complete meal. Gum-chewing Violet Beauregarde chews the meal gum which is tomato soup, roast beef and blueberry pie and ice cream - but there's trouble at the dessert course. Violet turns violet and swells up like an enormous blueberry. She is then sent to the Juicing Room to be squeezed.
4. Which character eats the Hair Toffee?

Answer: An Oompa Loompa

While showing off the Inventing Room, Willy tells the visitors that the Hair Toffee mixture isn't quite right, because an Oompa Loompa tried some and is now covered in hair.
5. Who does Willy Wonka say would want a beard?

Answer: beatniks, folk singers, and motor bike riders

Upon explaining how the Hair Toffee works, Mike Teavee asks, "Who wants a beard?"
Willy Wonka talks jive in response to Mike in an attempt to be cool: "Well...beatniks, for one. Folk singers and motor bike riders. Y'know...all those hip, jazzy, super-cool, neat, keen, and groovy cats. It's in the fridge, Daddy-O. Are you hep to the jive? Can you dig what I'm laying down? I knew that you could. Slide me some skin, soul-brother!"
6. Who used to work in Mr.Wonka's factory?

Answer: Grandpa Joe

Before Charlie finds a winning ticket, Grandpa Joe tells him that years ago, he used to work in Wonka's amazing factory. Because of spies among the workers, Willy Wonka dismissed all of his staff and closed his factory. Thus, Grandpa Joe lost his job there and hasn't been back in the factory since.
7. What did the Oompa Loompas survive on when living in Loompa-Land?

Answer: green caterpillars

In a flashback of himself in Loompa-Land, Willy tells his visitors how the Oompa Loompas survived by eating mashed-up caterpillars, but what they really loved was cocoa beans.
8. Willy Wonka's father is a dentist.

Answer: True

Played by the intimidating Christopher Lee, Wilbur Wonka forbade young Willy to consume any candy whatsoever - and also insisted he wear some rather daunting looking headgear! This caused young Willy to run away from home and become a candy-maker. As a result, he hasn't spoken to his father in years.
9. What is Willy Wonka's reply to Charlie's question as to why the Oompa Loompa song would already have Augustus' name in it?

Answer: "Improvisation is a parlor trick; anyone can do it!"

This happens right after Augustus is sucked up out of the chocolate river by the transport tubes. He was kneeling beside the chocolate river, eating from it with his hands. Mr. Wonka warns Augustus that his chocolate is not to be touched by human hands. Augustus then tumbles into the river. The Oompa Loompas sing about the fate that awaits such a gluttonous child as Augustus.
10. In the end, Charlie helps which two characters reunite?

Answer: Willy Wonka and his dad

Not a part of Dahl's book, screenwriter John August wrote a back story for Willy about his overly strict dentist father and his subsequent estrangement from him. Throughout the film, Willy has flashbacks of his childhood. In the end, Charlie goes with Willy to Wilbur Wonka's house under the guise of a dental visit so that Willy and Wilbur can be reunited.
