Answer: The Little Kicks

First appearing in the show's eighth season, Elaine performed her dance at the J. Peterman office party and, to say the least, it was awkward. George Costanza later referred to the movements as "a full-body dry heave". Unfortunately, the dance became a joke amongst the other employees and came back later on in the episode when Jerry and Kramer, attempting to bootleg a movie, ended up discovering that Elaine used their camera to film her movements over their copy of "Cry, Cry Again". Jerry, in an attempt to cover it up, said that during the movie you would cry, and then when you saw the dancer you would have no choice but to cry again. Elaine repeats the dance for a brief moment in her apartment in season nine.

It's still awkward.

Answer: Macarena

"The Macarena" epitomized dance in the nineties in a weird way. The same moves repeated over and over to a Spanish tune became a hit in clubs, at weddings, and even amongst children due to its simplicity and infectiousness. The song, by Los del Río, ended up topping the Billboard charts in 1996 becoming the top single of the year.

It was number one for three months in the U.S. where it also went four times platinum. It never topped the UK Singles Chart, mainly due to the Spice Girls' first single, "Wannabe", invading the airwaves. "The Macarena" persists at weddings, but then again, so does the Chicken Dance.

Answer: True Blood

Certainly a shocker of a show, "True Blood" was released on HBO in 2008 and quickly rose in popularity, specifically because of its bloody, soap-operatic approach to Charlaine Harris' "Southern Vampire Mysteries" series. In season one Jason Stackhouse's storyline was punctuated by a growing addition to V, a drug consisting of vampire blood which, when used by humans, could create a sense of euphoria.

In an attempt to pay Lafayette for more V, he danced on webcam for his doses. This was not the first time Presidential faces were used on the show, in a later season, Obama masks were seen.

There was no dancing.

Answer: Dance Dance Immolation

Starting up in 2005, "Dance Dance Immolation" was created as a modded version of the classic arcade game "Dance Dance Revolution", a game which has been pretending to teach gamers dance moves for over a decade. The aim of the game is to hit the arrow pads underfoot in the proper sequences as shown onscreen (and to the right beat).

It gets difficult after a while, but with the "Immolation" version the stakes are higher. Rather than just being told you're doing it wrong, you wear a fire suit and get blasted with fire. Seriously. Jets of fire. Allegedly, the game reaches temperatures of 1200 degrees Celsius.

Answer: PSY

Appearing on YouTube in mid-2012, "Gangnam Style" struck viral video status quite early on in its life soon becoming the most-viewed video on the entire site. The song was created by South Korean musician PSY off his sixth album and made him quite the rich man.

The dance for the video (which includes fake-riding-a-horse) has since permeated pop culture. "Gangnam Style" hit one billion views on December 21, 2012 (apocalypse, anyone?), went multi-platinum worldwide, and topped the charts in over twenty countries.

Answer: The Jersey Turnpike

Although fist-pumping plays a big role in Guido clubs on the Jersey Shore (Karma? Bamboo? Anybody?), it's hardly considered trashy. No, that adjective is reserved for the ever-popular Jersey Turnpike as performed by several of the Guidettes on the shore (and wherever they may appear in their travels). What's involved? Glad you asked! It mainly involves backing oneself up against their dance partner, and bending over provocatively.

The guys on the show typically felt that anyone performing the Turnpike was most definitely 'DTF'. I'll leave you to watch the show to figure out the rest.

Answer: Betty White

Originally released in the UK, "Strictly Come Dancing" premiered in 2004 as a follow-up to the long-running programme "Come Dancing". Since its revival it has taken in a slew of celebrity contestants from former Spice Girls to politicians to athletes, to movie stars.

The goal: to dance your way to the top every week and ultimately win a trophy. The show was shopped to international markets and the American version, "Dancing With the Stars", ended up getting huge ratings over the years. While Ann Widdecombe appeared in the eighth UK series (making it to sixth place), she was regarded as one of the worst dancers week-to-week by the judges. Likewise, in the U.S., then-eighty-one-year-old Cloris Leachman received the popular vote from viewers in the show's seventh season, staying in the game and reaching seventh place. Master P lasted four weeks on the show in the U.S. version's second season despite his missteps as well.

Some celebrities shouldn't dance.

Answer: The Hokey Pokey

The Hokey Pokey, also known as the Hokey Cokey or the Hokey Tokey (seriously people?) is a fairly straight-forward dance about putting things in, out, and shaking them all about before turning around. That's essentially what it's all about.

Weirdly enough, if you happen to try and use the song for something official in North America, you'll have to deal with Sony since they own the rights. Elsewhere in the world, it's considered public domain. Due to its relative simplicity it's commonly sung to children; you'd be hard-pressed to find a part of the world that doesn't have a variant of the tune.

Answer: Just Dance

"Just Dance" first appeared in stores in 2009 and, as the title suggests, you're supposed to (just) dance. With a Wii remote in your hand, you mimic the moves onscreen to the beat of the song in an attempt to score points and succeed in beating the track.

The game was one of the most popular third-party titles on the console and resulted in three annual sequels on the Wii, each one more popular than the last. Oddly enough, it did not have the refined techniques of Harmonix's Xbox/Kinect hit "Dance Central", but it sold oodles more. Later versions appeared on the PlayStation 3 (with the Move controller) and Xbox 360 (with Kinect).

Answer: Dance Your Ass Off

First airing on the U.S. Oxygen network in Summer 2009, "Dance Your Ass Off" was hosted by former 'curvy' Broadway actress Marissa Jaret Winokur (of "Hairspray" fame) and featured twelve contestants battling it out week after week to dance well, lose weight, and look...well...like they're doing it.

Unfortunately, while some of the contestants did lose weight on the show starting in the obese BMI category, few of them fell out of that category because, unlike "The Biggest Loser", their regiment involved dancing. I won't even bring up the pounds of dignity they may have shed. A second season starring former Spice Girl, Mel B, aired in 2010. Funnily enough, both hosts appeared on "Dancing With the Stars"; Winokur reached the semi-finals in season six and Mel B was the runner-up in season five.
