Lyric had been born with webbed toes. She and Echo had kept this secret her entire life. This was important because in the Alpha colony, if you were deformed in any way, you would be thrown out of their society. Then you would go off on your own or the Marauders added you to their group.

Sanchez was the only Marauder to have shaved his head. He also wore a strip of metal on a rope on his neck. This piece of metal was actually part of Mother. Sanchez saw visions given to him by the Source. He knew when it was time for both the Alphas and the Marauders to travel to the Source. He sent Cocker to deliver the message to the Alphas, who held a council and refused to go.

Answer: It was the only gift she had ever been given

Jobs gave Echo the rest of his broken crackers before he left to be with Mo'Steel and his battle with the Beasts. Echo wondered if Jobs knew just how much the gift had meant to her. She realized that besides the gift of life, it was the only thing she had ever received.

Answer: Westie

Echo and her child were sent to an abandoned room. Westie, along with Mattock and Lyric, helped her escape. They told her the council had stated that she and the baby were destined to starve to death. It was no surprise that Echo's best friends helped her. Westie, who had always been mean to Echo, admitted she had been friends with her mother.

She was disgusted by the choices of her people and risked her life to free Echo.

Answer: Grass, soil, and the sun

Sanchez, who was born with a gift to see certain visions, saw a greener Earth. He was shocked to feel grass grow from beneath him. He somehow knew that it was grass, and felt the thick, moist soil between his fingers. He defined the colors blue and green- two colors he and the others had never seen- without knowing exactly how. Finally, he felt the beautiful warmth of the sun.

Answer: She had bad genetics and a blind child

Echo's grandmother had been a "mutant," and Echo's child had been born with a film over her eyes. These traits were unacceptable to the Alphas, who stressed clean genetic material. Echo was terrified for herself and her baby. But she cried tears of relief when Mo'Steel and the other welcomed her warmly into their group of Marauders and Remnants.

"I'm down with the spiritual stuff," Mo'Steel told Sanchez, assuring him that he understood his need to treat the Source with respect. When Tate dreamt of the Remnants, she saw Mo'Steel and his mother sitting on their knees and praying. This would explain why Olga and Mo were so fearful of the demons in the third book "Them."

When the Remnants reached the Source, they finally discovered that it was Mother. They also found the skeleton of Tate, as well as a tape recorder that held her last message to her fellow survivors. Sanchez saw her and said that they must not disturb her body. He explained that he saw Tate in his visions, believing that she was godlike.

Sanchez described the "yellow circle" rising and falling. The sun was replaced by a white shadowed circle. Violet laughed and explained that he had seen Earth's old sun and moon. The only yellow Sanchez ever saw was the fire from the ground. Jobs attempted to describe to the others that the Earth rotated on an axis, but they only grew frightened.

Answer: The Source, the five embodied in Billy, and Lumina

The Source was Mother, which had crashed into the Earth by Tate. The Missing Five (formerly the Missing Eight) entered Billy, giving him an almost godlike status. The final key was Echo's child, Lumina. On Echo's birthday was when the process needed to take place. It was successful and the shattered Earth was given new life.
